Hi pinkbutterfly Wow you lost weight!! I'm pretty much same weight as when I started the healthy eating (as agreed with doc). Well I do have lots of movement but baby has lazy days/nights which scares me a bit! I am trying to be relaxed about it but in the night I sometimes start to try and wake baby to reassure myself:) Changing table....I don't think we will bother to start with...I will most likely change baby on the bed (same as I did with my sisters children). I also have a waist high area with soft top already that I can use in baby's room so will see. It's more tricky knowing what we will need downstairs - during the day we'll be downstairs and I won't want to keep going up and down for feeds/changes etc. Buggy-we went for mamas and papas urbo as it was the lightest travel system we could find, and as I'm short, I needed to get it in and out the car easily. Did you buy a changing box? Only place I can see them is mothercare?

Hi April ladies-hope you're feeling good:) Lyndy-glad you've found a doc ur comfortable with, and can trust. You're lucky you found one first time! I have many symptoms but not the veins...have you tried stockings? Assume you're putting feet up lots...rest up:) Pinkbutterfly-really good that your diabetes is controlled:) same as you, i have the odd meal that doesn't drop sugars quickly but 90% of meals are all fine and I've not put on hardly any weight. Do you feel hungry? I'm surprised I'm not more hungry-hope baby is growing ok. Has anyone else had an energy wipeout? Little things exhaust me nowadays...just sometimes I'll go to the mall and struggle to walk the full length without a rest-bizarre! Usually I'm exercising at the gym 30-60mins a day. Baby is really moving lots-seems happy! Most of shopping is complete, just nappies/toiletries left. Are any of you using disposable nappies/washable nappies? I'd like to try washable but think I'll start with disposable for first few days as its too hard in hospital and will see when we get home. So is anyone still working? Anyone up for meeting at a bumps and babes coffee morning soon? Would be good to meet a few faces:) Max

Hi Laura, I switched to Dr Braithwaite before christmas and its been a relief. As mentioned, she's a straight talker but she's brill and really friendly too - highly recommend. Saw her this am and she's delivering my littlun in April if all goes to plan:) edited by maxmistry on 07/02/2013

Hi Everyone! Hows the baby bumps growing? Round and proud! :D Hi Alenka, Hi Lyndy! Great to meet you! Yeah, seems like April is def a boys month ehh? mumofmoo in 18 yrs time, your daughter will have the pick of the bunch;) hehee! Awww Hiccup, know what you mean - family and friends seem to become a lot more important to be around and its tricky when we're away. Like you my hubby is away a lot too....he currently on a 12day trip...so its just me, and the cat and littlun bumping around in the belly. I found it terribly difficult at the beginnning so I started a pregnancy diary and its really helped. Its not necessarily for baby to read but just nice to get things out of my head (instead of talking the cat to sleep). Bumps getting heavier? Mine doesn't seem to but I think I grew to fast during 1-2trimesters.....the aches have gone and I feel full of energy now! Though if I sit anywhere for longer that 10mins, I'm asleep...zzzz;) Alenka - I saw Dr BW at AH tdy and still finding that quality of healthcare there seems ok. I appreciate Mumofmoo seems to have had a bad experience, but as you say, I've heard of bad and good at all hospitals so see how you feel when you go there. Lyndy - I've got a friend that goes to pilates with me and she's happy with healthbay - has a very good reputation. Aww must be stressful having to do all the settling in stuff but hope you're getting into it - as you said, as its not your first experience of the ME, you won't be surprised by all the 'hoop jumping'! Wow, your husband i doing well and you're doing even better not finding out if its boy or girl:) Pinkbutterfly.....ahh yep, I started out all over the place with the testing....everyone said porridge would be good etc but doesn't work for me.....but I did find that a small KFC chicken wrp with small fries doesn't send my levels high - woohoooo! It may not be a cake but felt good to be a rebel - lol! Hope you got on ok at the docs. twosilverfish - how's the house move going? Did you find anywhere? Sorry I haven't been here long enough to suggst anywhere :oS I was given a great document by my doc this am on how much movement the baby should be doing....has anyone noticed that movements are more lower than higher now? And in two places at the same time sometimes?! I had a stress the other night when I didn't feel movement for hrs...ended up rubbing tummy and giving a few nudges - lol, seemed to work! Baby has been busier since (btw prodding baby was not in the instructions doc gave me-lol!). Has anyone found a good baby bouncer/swing? Any recommendations? Also I can't find a big maternity pillow case or a fitted waterproof cot mattress....any suggestions where I could find these? 30weeks tmrw....can't believe its flying by! Painting the nursery tmrw - going for a safari theme:D Take care luvlies Max x edited by maxmistry on 07/02/2013 edited by maxmistry on 07/02/2013

Oh bless ya Uzzizach, these guys at insurance companies and hospitals don't seem to understand the impact of their decisions:oS but try not to worry, you'll be fine and your little lady will safely arrive with you x I'm at American Hospital - there's great reviews for my Gyny Dr Braithwaite....she's much more direct and she seems very confident of her knowledge. I did have Dr Nasreen but I wasn't happy with her - she was very american style (I guess) more into scans and seeing baby but test results etc were not detailed to me and expalined (which is what I'd have preferred as I'm an engineer I like facts/details, so I changed). Dr Rajalakshmi and Dr Danielson also has a good reputation. I chose Dr BW beacause I needed to change but didn't want to change again and so opted for her as she was british (like me) so maybe more in line with my expectations. Hope you're both keeping alright and though I know how stressful it is to change docs/hospitals, you know you'll be fine so try to keep smiling hun! Max x PS if I can help in any way, don't hesitate to just yell! :) edited by maxmistry on 30/01/2013

Hi Everyone! Hope you're all keeping well and nothing is swelling/leaking that isn't supposed to;) heheee! Hi Alenka - lovely to meet you! Yes I watched that movie - though it might be a bit rubbish but was actually very good and was funny - might watch it again soon:D Unfort I don't live in the marina but we could meet for a drink when you arrive - where are you currently living/working? Choosing hospitals/doctors is largely dependent on where your insurance covers (if you've not got insurance then it won't obviously as you can pay for whatever you want). Its worth checking which hospitals you have cover for and then looking to see reviews of doctors at the hospitals on the forum. Not everyone wants the same thing from a doctor so what suits me may not be what you like but I can recommend mine so far (I switched so only seen her a couple of times but she seems great). Weight wise.....I've heard people put on anything from 10-25kg....I've put on 11 and have been told to not put on any more because I have pregnancy diabetes so like pinkbutterfly, on a strict diet....and though you may be envious, be grateful that you can do something about cake cravings instead of just staring and banging on the windows of all the bakeries in Dubai ;) Heheee Pinkbutterfly - good luck with the shopping....in some ways there is a lot of choice, but when I go to the shops I don't find anything I want to buy - lol! Baby has started to become a lot more active yest when I was looking at cot mobiles and toys....wasn't sure it was prodding me to buy something or that it didn't want that one - heheee! How's the blood monitoring going? holey fingers ehh!?! Heheee Mumofmoo - ahhh, hows the cot/bassinet? Did you like it? sorry I can't help on advising about maids.....I am the house skivvy;) hiccup - I've got the lucy atkins book too (was on chrimbo present list) and yes, it is good. Wish it covered a bit of birth but doesn't matter - as a guide to 'what to do' when I get home I thought it was good too. Will look up the essential guide dvds. Which baby monitor did you buy in the uk? We trawled around too and was struggling to find one that works through thick walls of dubai....ended up with the ibaby. Well its been an interesting couple of days....my fingers have started to stiffen (guessing carpal tunnel....blimy any more symptoms I can get?!!?!! lol!) and swelled up so I've now spent 24hours trying to remove my wedding rings that were well and truly stuck. After putting my arm in the air and massaging for 1hr, then trying ice, piles cream (yes I know), windex cleaner (I know I know but I was desperate and read it on the net!), oil, soap and pain, they're off - woohooo! So happy as I didn't want to remove my rings but would be devastated if I'd have to cut them off! Really pleased that though I've kept weight steady for 3 weeks ( as advised by doc) the baby is now starting to move around a lot more yesterday and today....it seems to have the strength in one kick/punch to move my whole upper body! Yikes.....this one will come out fighting! Feels odd to not put weight on in third trimester but the diabetic doc seemed good and they (should) know best. Can I ask, where are people buying baby stuff from? I've looked at mothercare/babyshop/babies are us for things like baby bouncers.....which other places are there? I know there's Just kidding, but are there any others around SZR that I'm missing? I'm booked in for an antinatal weekend with hubby at American hospital 22-23rd feb and then 25th is 32wk scan....can't wait as I've not seen baby since Dec! Can I also ask, does anyone keep a copy of thier pregnancy notes/test results/baby's measurements, etc? Mine's all at the hospital (though I have scan photos) but think I'll ask for a copy..don't really have much but is everyone else the same? Right, off to the gym and then try to fathom what I could possible eat for lunch......have a lovely day, dear baby carriers! Luvlies M edited by maxmistry on 30/01/2013

Hi Ladies Muffin86 - sorry, I didn't make it to yoga as mainly doing pilates....going tmrw, if you're there? Glad you're enjoying it - are there many ppl in the class? I find them quite quiet. As bunintheoven said, the fasting overnight is easier than during the day. bunintheoven....blimy, you must be knackered! Yeah john lewis is good. My friend bought uppababy vista and loves it. You musta been so ravenous by the time your GTT was over! Though its not gluten free, its low carb so gluten free gives me more food options. However I'm getting on ok t the moment...see below. Regarding shopping - ya know you could do it all in a day if you had to so don't worry. Thanks for the tip about bio-oil!:) Baby sleeping We are planning to use a moses basket (but no stand) but are concerned the cat might pull up on it and pull it over so we'll put the cot in our room, and put the moses basket inside it. What's your thoughts? Pinkbutterfly......awwww bless ya, know exactly how you feel...first few days of finding out about the diabetes I went into complete confusion about what I could and couldn't eat. Then when I was given the blood testing machine the pharmacy didn't eplain how to use it well and I thought it would be easy...and it is, but you have to know the technique so after 2 bruised fingers and 5 attempts by me/husband/ 2 friends who are staying I burst into tears feeling sorry for myself....urgh hormones! But after using youtube to learn how to blood test, I realised I just need to increse my protein at every meal, and stick to a small portion of wholemeal carbs and I'm fine. I'm gutted to miss any more cake too but stay strong hun, we can do this and its better than having a baby born on insulin. Just think of ll the baby weight we'll not have to fight with at the gym afterwards;) I know how disappointing it can be be having come out the otherside, I'm ok and know you will be too so keep smiling and if you want, call me and we can have a chat anytime xx Philly - awww, are you still waiting for results? Two more weeks and we'll be in the week 30s....now it all becomes real! Keep smiling lovely ladies:) Max xx

Hi lovely April ladies! Hope you're all keeping well....the countdown begins! It's weird to think we were so relieved to be 12wks pregnant and suddenly now only 12wks left:D Great to meet you bubbles and sandy last wk -was really good and thanks for the advice; hope you didn't mind me asking....us beginners are renown for what feels like silly questions;) Cot arrived yest...very exciting...can't believe there will be someone sleeping in it very soon (we've put a cat net on it incase our mog decides to bag it first;) he's happy under it for now. First diabetic clinic appt tmrw then will have to test blood before and after every meal. Why do I feel absolutely fine but they say blood pressure issues/diabetes etc....have my notes been switched?!;) hehee. It's a strange feeling that I've switched to a diabetic diet (from what I've read online) and after a wk, my weight has dropped a pound...bit unnerving as i thought it should go other way in 3rd T. See what doc says tmrw. Anyone know somewhere that sells gluten free flour? Are any april ladies delivering at AH? Wondering if I'll bump into any of you;) Muffin86 when are you flying back? If you go to any exhale classes in motor city, I go so might see ya there! Try Heba's classes-she's brill, very 'pregnancy' knowledgable and kind. My lower back/disc locked at the weekend so she tried all these stretches on me to release it-bless her (and still kept the class going). All you Brits out there....are you bein bombarded with snow photos on email/FB too?!! Gotta confess I am a bit envious....but not for long;) Take care ladies, hope you eat well, rest lots, mind the back, pull up ur pelvic floor (100 times a day-do you remember that often...really?!!!), and don't forget the tissues for those hormones;) Luvlies Max x

Hi bubbletrubble Sorry to hear about your GD, I'm no help as I've just been diagnosed today and got quite depressed at the thought! Another day tmrw, will be more positive. I hope you sort out your issues-I've gotta wait til 22nd to see diabetes expert at American hosp so will see what they suggest. Am bumbling around the Internet until then. Good luck in your balancing-if I read anything that might help, will pass your way. Take care hun Max

Hi all-how r u keepin? Pink butterfly-that's a relief, not having to change. How did your GTT go? Muffin86-Didn't see you at th coffee morning? Hope I didn't miss you there? Hiccup-aww your ribs sounds painful, know what you mean about sleeping badly but I don't have rib problems. Good choice on uppababy-my mate bought the vista last wk nd was v happy. Lucky on the discount too:) did you get much in the DSF? Know what you mean about boys names-were struggling too. The nice names are overly popular, and other names ain't so nice. I'm feeling sorry for myself this wk April ladies, my GTT came back abnormal so diagnosed with gestational diabetes and I've gotta now do blood testing before and after every meal for the nxt 3months and higher risk of c-sect though I want a natural birth:( also I'm full of cold/bugs (which I thought might be why results skewed but they're saying not) so not sleeping well and full of snot urgh. Seems I'm gonna have to go very low carb/no sugar and I'm gutted cos I love my food and after dieting all these yrs (only marginally overweight, bmi 25 so borderline), my pregnancy was one chance to eat more relaxed but alas no....ggrr. My gyny said I should get used to feelin hungry...seems wrong for baby?! Will see what diabetic clinic say....sigh.... Tmrw's another day, hope the last 3months fly by! Hope you ladies are having a better wk:) M

Hi all:) Aww pink butterfly, good luck with hospital switch-AH seems fine, you'll be fine but it's annoying when you have your mind geared up for something then are forced to change it:( Mumofmoo-sorry you can't join us f coffee:( lol I'm so relieved (excuse the pun!) that I'm not the only one hanging around the loo -hehee! Bubbles09-great! Have emailled you bout coffee. Realise now you live on the palm...wanna meet at marina mall for the bumps/babes that muffin86 suggested? It's thurs 10-12. Wow you have your hands full with no2 on the way:) Muffin86, are you still planning to go to coffee at Marina mall? Stinging is a bit like stitch but more sore than cramps. The stinging has moved to left side now and I agree, it's especially since I've been walking the malls. Think I'm gonna do some stomach exercises and hold my core in when I walk to see if it helps:oO Stokke? Nice but yep, pricy! Expensive tastes girl-lol! It's great to share all your experiences as we go through 2nd trimester....nearly into the final straight! Oh btw, my impatient hubby did finally feel baby move:D I've still not got it in my head that there's a baby inside me yet...hope the message sinks in soon;) I found great changing mats in matalan mirdif tdy, down from 68aed to 28! So got 2, for upstairs/downstairs. Otherwise DSF seems a bit like just a normal day at most baby shops. Decided on mamas & papas urbo and cot from babyshop...does anyone know if a standard foam mattress is ok? And why are moses baskets double the price here than the uk?! Urgh...might just use a cat bed;)hehee. Take care, beautiful April ladies with babies:) max xx edited by maxmistry on 07/01/2013

Hi Millymoo Aww bless ya, what a stress....try not t let em get ya down:) I was looking to switch hospitals from AH to city as I really wasn't happy with dr nasreen at AH, but instead, I stuck to AH and am now seeing Dr Braithwaite....and though I haven't delivered with her (im 25wks) she seems great-very professional and thorough. Would recommend, though admittedly i haven't been with her for longer than a month. It's not a huge experience but hope it helps. M

Hiya-I'm using a big curly C shaped one, was on offer aed134 at centre point moe and it very comfy....supports neck, bump and knees really well. Only slight issue is rolling over in the night but as I now find it so comfy I don't roll as much ( if u roll, you have to move it with you and put neck support under neck or leave where it is and change which leg is on top...if you get what I mean). Sounds complicated but it's not. Only tricky bit is, when I'm not using it, cat thinks its his personal catbed so have to turf him out (he's not impressed-lol).

Hi ladies, Happy new year! Been a slow reply as been to uk for last trip seeing family and friends...got all emotional and tearful...urgh-lol! Pink butterfly-ahhh shopping time has begun! Hehee. Know what you mean bout the gtt but as I'm getting the night shakes, I'm gonna do it. My cousin bought the Quinny buzz too and found it too wide, getting stuck in doorways etc so think we're going mamas and papas mylo or silver cross carseat/buggy, no pram top. Hoping the dsf at mirdif will give us a discount. Bunintheoven- the Dest Mat sale is good, as mumofmoo suggested-I like the stuff there too as they do a short leg:) aww the separating abs doesn't sound great but good ya can try and counteract it with exercise-as you sed, def worth doing. I know the feeling of stacking acorns (that made me giggle!)....feeling like a heffer! No Pilates for 2weeks and stuck on flights means muscles have stiffened up too. Mumofmoo-hello! Nice to meet you-like you I think I might be earlier than expected too (but maybe my wishful thinking!). City hospital is a good choice. Are you planning to go to an expat woman bumps and babes coffee am? Maybe I could meet you? So ladies....new symptoms for me...am I alone?!! 1) don't laff....but my poohs are huge klangers..., have been visiting lotsa families and spending a lot of time in their loo tryin t flush....blush blush 2) DH still can't feel baby move-any ideas besides prodding baby?! 3) lower stomach muscles stinging when I walk more than half hr....I need a stomach sling! 4) indigestion, leaking cervical fluid and night shakes still ongoing 5) emotional wreck.....whimper 6) sooo hungry all the time-just can't feel full nom nom nom Lol-anyone free f a drink during nxt wk? I promise I'll try and not leak fluids or cry;) Has anyone been to any good dsf baby sales? Hope you're all keeping well-let me know how you're getting on. I'm 25wks tdy...15wks left...,eek! Hi muurtje-hope ur keeping well:) I had my 20wk scan at American hospital a few wks ago and though baby was big enough and I'd drank enough water etc the baby was too active and then hid behind belly button etc. so officially it's a 2D scan, but at radiologists discretion (she was so lovely!) then did try to get a 3D image but it didn't work out so they said they'd try again at 32wk scan. Think you can go to fetal medical clinic and pay for 3d/4d scan who also give you a DVD etc. Good luck...hope baby doesn't get mischievous like our cheeky monster!;) Max

Hi Ladies, Never though a kick in the stomach would feel good ehh?! lol! Bunintheoven - ahh thanks for listening to my moan...I've luckily switched to Dr Braithwaite at American Hospital and she seems brilliant so I'm relieved. I kept seeing the old crappy doc when I went to ee the new one (so much so that my blood pressure went thru the roof and the machine went crazy!) but just wanted no more to do with her. They're now running checks on my thyroid/BP/bloods to check the body shakes aren't anything untoward. Leaking was from 'that end' but seems its just cervical fluid building up whilst I'm lying down. How's your cold? re you taking anything for the indegestion now? Its really annoying ehh? Hope you get a nice break over christmas. How did the 22wk scan go (you're probably having it soon)? Yeah, I'm having the glucose test at 27wks too...fun and games ehh? Which 5 films did you see? Were you at the film festival? I can feel baby moving inside me but can't with my hand from outside so hubby can't either. Pink butterfly-not long til the DSF! Did you buy anything or wait? Ahhh cute, you saw baby yawning:) Tired from all that posing for the camera....heheee! Uzzizach - Ahhh shy baby? Just waiting to srprise you on the day;) Glad your glucose test went well but yes, must have been frustrating waiting for an hour. How long after drinking the glucose and doing the next blood sample before you can eat? My mind is always about the next meal - lol! Thanks for the tips on keeping the bugs away - Im travelling to the UK on saturday, and there's all sorts of bugs going around there - eek! So is everyone feeling well? Sleeping ok? Eating well? Any non-medical solutions for indegstion? I notice mine is worse when I've not eaten for a couple of hrs..so I keep eating! lol! Wow....passed 5 months...nearer the end than the beginning! M

My stupid gyny....told me the gender of my baby at my last scan even though we'd told her at the last 4 scans we wanted to wait:( I'm not disappointed with the outcome but have had enough of her - we're sticking with the American hospital and switching Docs to Dr Braithwaite. When I wanted details of our 20wk scan, besides 'everything is fine' it was a struggle to get any results out of her...ENOUGH! Sorry, end of rant.... Had another bad night with night chills....and I'd had ovaltine and biscuits before bed? hubby got me more food and a duvet/cuddles and guessing it might be blood pressure? Also woke up the past couple of days with a small clear liquid leaking...lasts about half hr.....anyone else or just me? Not smelly or anything (tmi sorry!). Well at least my shopping will be more targetted now we know:) How is veryone else getting on? M

hi belly bumpers! Hope you're all keeping well:) Uzzizach - great news that your 20week scan has gone well - yaay, it is a relief, ehh?:) Umm I've not been asked to do the glucose test as yet? I have been asked to stay hungry til a blood test and kindly, the doc gave me the first appt of the day so I slept, woke in the morning and zoomed to the hospital to give the blood sample and at least the waiting of 10hrs didn't seem so bad that waiting all day? Could you do something similar? Have that sandwich at the ready ehh?! Bubbles09 - lol the reality of being pregnant takes a while, I agree - really pleased to hear your 20wks scan went well too:D The images are pretty clear ehh? Dr Elsa has a great reputation so great for you to get her again. I think I've got settled with the doc I have at the moment at AH....the 20wk scan went well and the lady who did it was so lovely too. Feeling a lardy bum nd was on a bit of a downer this week as could see the cellulite but then threw myself into some pilates and the gym and feel a bit better already. I've used youtube prenatal pilates (1hr irish instructor) and 30min prenatal yoga (saregamaindia) and both were great besides at one point the irish woman was doing exercises lying on my back - I skipped that bit as I thought we weren't supposed to? I'm also doing prenatal yoga/pilates at Exhale in Motor City....the pilates was excellent and I'll def try and keep that one up...finally a workout that is tough but doable! Exhaledubai.com they also have a location in JBR? I damaged my tailbone (coccyx) a couple of yrs ago (tripped over the cat coming down stairs, urgh!) and though it took a ew wks to heal its been no problem til now.....I can really feel pressure, but no pain, in that area and am bit concerned about rest of pregnancy/ natural delivery....will ask the doc on tues :oS I went to the Mother and baby show this wknd in Dubai...wasn't worth it unless you've already got a baby so if you didn't make it, you didn't miss out;) Bubbles09 - thanks for the offer of questions....only one I have is did you ever get a massage when expecting - can you recommend anyone? Thanks for the tip on DSF - we'd forgotten about that and will probably do our shop then. We are going to UK at chrimbo but not sure how much we can easily carry back but will def consider it - cheers! How old is your first baby btw? Def up for a drink during the wk - will email ya:) Max

Hi Ladies - how are you all keeping? Bunintheoven....thanks for replying to Merinochristina....taken a few days to get time to reply. I had 20wk scan and decided that I'm gonna stick at American Hospital for now....all is well with bubs and scan went well...well I say that, it was ok but baby decided that in that 20mins it would do a 360 somersault, wave, hide behind belly button and scratch it toes so measurements were hard work for poor sonographer....she said the baby was very cheeky...I blame hubby for that! Also means 3D picture wasn't great. Anyone else had a scan? Hope all toe/finger/limb/head count is in order:) I tried prenatal pilates tdy - was brilliant...finally a more intense exercise that's still very safe to do...felt as though I was really toning body for the birth (didn't really get that with yoga-more relaxation). Anyone else suffering with indigestion? Anyone know how much it is to go to mum baby show this wknd? website doesn't say:oS Bunintheoven...I'm away 23rd-2nd but would be great to meet up if it fits with you? Thanks for info on left side sleeping - tis a relief! Interesting about delaying scan til wk21...think I was only concerned as my gut feeling is this baby is older than they have worked out....but knowing my luck I'll probably be waiting and complaining weeks after my due date for baby;) How's the hip now? Loosened at all? M

Hi All - hope you're keeping well! Bunintheoven.....awww glad you found a cuppa you like....wish I could find a substitute for a runny egg - lol! Shame you can't make the baby fair:( safe trip. If you need me to look for anything in particular, let me know. Thanks for the advice regarding the hospital - I went to city today and generally felt much more comfortable with the doc/nurses there....seems a bit daunting to switch but think I will. So funny, your baby likes bagpipes?! Think mine's deaf now as we took it to the grand prix in Abu dhabi at 15wks;) Its strange but a relief to feel a first few movements...not got much but its picking up a bit yest & tdy:) Palpitations...I've had these since the start of the yr long before I was pregnant...they faded a bit but are back. They'd ran tests before but my health is fine...the reoccurence is expected during pregnancy as long as ur blood pressure etc is fine and you feel ok.....its just a lot of blood to pump around, body working harder, etc. No harm mentioning it to the midwife/doc next time you see them though? I picked up a leaflet at city hosp about antinatal and they recommend wk26-28 to start them....might see you there next yr! Its on tues nights. Suggestion on the hip pains...I'd had 2 nights and days of really frustrating backache and was going crazy but forced myself to do a bit of prenatal yoga (tried a youtube freebie called prenatal yoga routine 28mins saregamaindia) and was surprised at the difference I felt as not really a yoga queen and I'm as flexible as an ironing board - back was better within an hr! I've now signed up to local prenatal yoga/pilates package.Think its not only nerves pressing etc but also how I guess we're tensing up muscles without realising with all the changes. Phily - followed your recommendation for Dr Ibrahim tdy and agree, he's got a really nice temprament and I do like his calm style. Do you know if he's pro natural birth? I forgot to ask.Think I'll probably switch to him. Ahh glad you're feeling movement too! Not felt the tightening I don't think, just a tight tummy and yawning feeling like I'm going to burst...aaggh! Regarding sleeping - I keep reading about this left side sleeping but I'm a right sider too normally. I've tried to go left when I can but Im thinking its just more important that I get as much sleep as possible, whichever way I can ( had 2 crank calls last night and I'm knackered...ggrrr). Let me know which day ur going to the mother baby fair nearer the time - will try and meet you and hubbys for a coffee maybe. I don't mean to be negative, but a friend in the UK was due 2 weeks after me and lost her baby so please ladies, don't overdo it, even if you do feel absolutely fine....get some relaxation in! Hope those baby's punches & kicks are full gusto! Mine's had two scans where its camera dodging so I can't even recognise the image I got tdy - lol. Right time for bed - chat soon baby growers! Hi Merinocristina - yes we're all April-ish mums to be, welcome! Healthcare here seems very different to the UK but can still be good. I'm currently changing (I think!) from American Hospital to City Hospital as finding it a bit tricky and hoping new hospital will be better. If you look on the main pregnancy page and search, lots of ppl recommend hospitals/give prices of packages but all depends of what you think you'll need/want and also whether you want to see community doctors and only go to hospital for scans/birth or whole thing including antenatal. Doctors that are very popular have a high demand so the best doctors can already only fit you in around Feb/March next year....other docs can be earlier and not bad, but don't have longstanding reputation but are still very good. It all depends where youll be living/which doctors are local etc. Hve a search and see what recommendations others have made and see what you think you like? Can ask specific ppl then from real experience. ll I can tell you about is american hospital which hasn't been bad, but think I want something different and a bit less of a struggle between doctors and technicians. Good luck! M Hi ladies, hope you are keeping well I am due in April 2013, is anyone too?? We are moving from London to Dubai by March, as I do not have any idea about hospitals, could you please give any adivse?? best ones/prices etc Thanks a lot for your help! Hi 'nearly half way there' ladies! Hope your feeling like you have the bump 'badge' now or getting there:) Pink Butterfly - congrats on your bouncing boy!!! So excited for you! Funny your sensitive nose is still going - mine's faded with my memory - hehee Bunintheoven....blimy girl, you gotta calm down, you're making me feel tired with all that flyin about - lol! Sound like you've got lots of energy! Take care and rest up. Really niceto share the excitment with family and friends ehh? No Vivid dreams but definitely got the burger look - lol! Can we trade phone nmbers and I'll let you know if I'll be at the fair on the 8th? Would love to meet up. Will probably go more than once so will see phily there too hopefully if we can tie up. Thanks f the tip on the banana! Had bad cramps for 2 days and slept badly - initially thouht it was a stomach bug. With cramps and my ongoing palpitations I haven't really been able to feel baby movement much which has played on my mind. The tramps/stomach bug I think was constipation/trapped wind.....nice. Ahh its funny, your gran - would love to have heard advice from my grans but unfort they're not here. Having a stress at the moment as the gyny says to have the anomaly scan before 21wks, but they're fully booked at american hospital til 10th Dec - really annoyed as they could have booked m in weeks ahead but haven't and now only option is to have it at 22wks or hospital said they'd send me to an outside company for the scan. Tempted to switch to city hospital now cos they're hacking me off but have a feeling 20wk scan will be late anyway? Just getting annoyed with the shoddy service I get at american hospital - generally good but always full of issues (12wk scan was done too late so ended up with having to pay for extra screening)....considering so far, touch wood, I'm a straightforward maternity case registered with them from the beginning. Moan over....for now;) Advice please.....think I should switch hospital? If I went to city, is Dr Britt/Ibrahim/Anna any good? I assume Dr Elsa waiting list is so long, its not worth trying.Am I just being too stroppy, and should I just have the scan elsewhere as the hospital are now having to organise....its the last important milestone to hit (i.e. all bloodtesting/scanning is done now) so besides being disorganised at the birth, could they screw it up again?!? Urgh, what a faff....suggestions please! M

Hi Philly! Lol yep was funny trying on the fake bump ehh?!! Cos we couldnt find much maternity stuff on the shelf in uk, hubby kept having me stuff jumpers up extra large tops-Hehee:) will find more details on when t go to the show and will get in touch. Haven't looked at much in terms of baby stuff but did wander into the babyshop sale in centrepoint to get a feel for discounted price for a cot/stroller etc. Only thing we thought was that considering baby will be born heading into summer, a pram top will be a waste of money as too hot to go out so stroller with carseat that sits on top is what we'll go for. Thanks f tip on h&ms! Will avoid:) Having really bad nights sleep for over a month....got a regular 4am wake up f an hr minimum. Yest I got the bone shivers again and think its down to not eating enough yest and doing 30mins gentle gym time...not impressed having to scoff peanut butter &banana toast with milk at 4:30am with the shakes....urgh....Bo/ wanna sleeeeeep! How's the sickness phily? Feeling any better? Are your school tots looking after you still?;) M Hi everyone, Hope you are all doing well. Did a bit of maternity shopping at Destination Maternity, which was heaps of fun. They have an extra bump you can add on which is heaps of fun. Got a bit of an idea of how I should look (give or take a few chocolate bars and kilos!). A tad expensive, but thought it was really nice stuff and I found it a better range and nicer fit than at Mothercare. But they have got some really cool "Mind the Bump" jammies and Tshirts. Haven't really found anywhere else to try yet... Max - personally I wasn't too keen on the "range" at H&M. Seemed like when you get pregnant you lose all sense of style! As you are all a few weeks ahead of me, I'm guessing you've been stroller shopping? Any tips on what to look for or what to get? 2silverfish - I heard that it's best to wait till the shopping festival (late Jan/early Feb) to get the really good deals on everything, or to check online. Also, I really like the Greens - heaps of places to take bubs for a walk and really family-friendly. Got other friends in our building who are moving Safa Park way. We'll be looking at moving after Smurf arrives, so will be keen to see what you think of different areas. Max - def looking at going to the Baby Show. Give me a text/email and we should meet up there! Philly

Well i hope to be out full time about maybe even January now because of scans, visas etc, i'm due the 12th April, you? Is this your firs How long have you been staying in Dubai for? Our original plan was to live at the marina but i think since baba it'd be better with a bit of greenery!! We've been told about arabian ranches and it sounds good with the communal areas etc and also Victory Heights rings a bell, ive a feeling my husbands old work friend and his wife stay there?? Lovely place they have!! I'm leaving Aberdeen tomorrow night at tea time getting excited now!!! And saw online about the bumps and babes meetings at Dubai Mall next Monday? So think i'll head along, although judging by works medical policies etc i think could be coming back here for the birth although at the moment it wasn't our first choice.

Max - Hi there. How was your trip to UK? I'm sure your family and friends are very happy for you. Hows' the pregnancy going for you? 2silverfish - Hi there congratulations to you too. :) Hmmm.. Al Barsha is a nice neighborhood if you ask me, you can walk to Mall of the Emirates especially now that the weather is fab. Then there's Lulu as well. We'll be neighbors. Lol. Thanks f askin pinkbutterfly, was a rush to drive up and down the uk t see all family and friends but good to see all the excitement:)my mum gave me my old baby blanket, which was a really nice memory:D I was hankering for a home cooked curry but each family I visited had cooked lots of lovely food but no curry...so my hubby made me curried baked beans with a fry up when we got back-lol! Sounds revolting but hit the spot!;) How's things with you? I like al barsha area-and lulus nearby is very handy! M

Hi April Ladies, So....has anyone got any pointers to find decent cheap maternity gear? Guess you're all busting at the seams or is it just me that feels so flabby?! I hear H&M has a good range. I bought some great yoga bottoms at Divine Maternity in Mirdif.....so comfy and def getting worn a lot though was a bit pricy, they were short leg...hurray! Also got a good pair of jeans from Mothercare. Really wish I was a stick with a bump rather than a lump with a bump - lol! I've seen there's the mum and baby show in Dubai early Dec - is anyone going? Do some bulk buy negotiating maybe;) Max

Hi twosilverfish & Muffin86......nice to meet you! When are you moving to Dubai and are you due in April too Muffin86? Tomyum soup sounds very healthy......So not a bad thing surely? ;) Where are you living currently and can I be nosey and ask why you're changing docs? I'm not sure about whether to wait for scan at 21wks or not....tricky one, but some ways makes sense to do it at the new place? Would the new doc be happy to take the 20wk scan results from another doc or would they charge you to do it again? I live in Victory Heights, which is pretty far out but I have a car, however Arabian Ranches next door is a nice gate community and has public buses connecting to the mall of the emirates. I've met a couple of people that live in Tecom/The Greens that seems really nice (though as a visitor it was hard to find parking). Muffin86 There's a lot of questions you've asked, which have much better longer responses on the general forum but as a quick guide... .....moving to Dubai....there's lots of areas to live, but depends on budget/if you want a garden/ have a car/ want to be near beach. Hospitals/Midwives.....process here is very different to the UK. f you message me, privately with some detail questions, would be happy to help regarding costs and recommendations and details of the process, etc? Hi ladies-how are we keeping? Great news pink butterfly, really pleased that everything looks fine in your last scan and blood tests:):) sorry its taken so long to reply, I was in the uk telling friends and family our good news:D where are you based? In Dubai? Ahhh it's probably a girl?!! Start thinking of names for your April angel ehh?!:):) Hi hiccup-awww so nice telling people good news ehh?:) great that all is well at ur last scan. Like you I was counting down to the end of week 12, and at the scan I got one wk ahead so was 14wks the next day-not complaining-hehee! Now in my 15th wk, I can't believe I'm nearing the halfway mark of 20wks....yikes! Managed to get some maternity clothes that fit (please note pretty much ALL uk shops do not stock maternity-all are order online besides mothercare....I was shocked! Why would they make pregnant women faff around returning wrong sizes etc?). I went into meltdown yesterday....had my first experience of a leaky nipple......aagghh-I freaked out-lol....time to grow up soon for me, I guess!;) I did panic:oO anyone else had this? How's everyone else getting along? Starting to see the bump appear now? Fingers crossed for me please-got quad screening results this week I think. luvlies M

Hi Ms Aprils! How are you all keeping? Anyone got their 2nd trimester urge to dance the night away?!! No?!! Nah me neither, bed by 9:15pm yest....party animal I ain't;) Buninthe oven......oh so pleased-what a relief!! Sure you'll enjoy telling everyone....I told one south African friend I was 'up the duff' and she smiled nodding, so I sed 'Im preggers' and she's laughed and smiled again (not really getting it) til I shouted across everyone at yoga 'I'm pregnant!!!' which she then went ahhhh and ran ova t hug me-lol! Some ppl....lol! Phily, awww how ya feeling? Try not t worry too much, I'd just up my intake of folic acid foods (greens etc?) and you know that there's thousands of babies born healthily in the world without multivits. Do the best you can, and stay positive. I had my 13wk scan yest....bit of a mess....doc sed book in nxt wk, though I told her that last period wasnt great as lasted 30hrs. She ignored it, as did th nurse. So I go for blood test first nd they've not got pre-authorisation frm insurance so wait til sat. Scan was all good...only issue, baby is very advanced, at least 13wks 6days! Great! But now 4:45pm on fri and need blood tested in nxt 15mins...and not approved by insurance....and my bladder is bursting-lol! By chance, caught my gyny on her way out whose now switched it to a quad screening-anyone had one? Baby seems well -lying there with feet up and an arm behind its head....must take after hubby as my family arent typically chilled out;) means I'm now due 1wk earlier:D lookin at my calendar, thinks its at least that so in some ways relieved.....well was until we went to chilis afterwards f some dinner (after 8, yes 8 loo stops-was tempted t buy a commode) nd I bit into an undercooked ****** chicken wing....eeek! Enough waffling-off t uk on mon to tell everyone:) Keep smiling ladies!!! Let me know you're all well. Max xx

Hi Uzzizach! Nice to meet you and congratulations! Yes, you'll be the first of us to lead us through April deliveries;) Ooooh the drive is tiring - I've done it a few times as hubby works in AD and we live in Dubai so everyday for you must be tricky. Regarding the donut.....I can imagine the pillow making you very high in the car. Well my sister, having given birth a few yrs ago and couldn't sit down because of stitches pain, used to use an inflatable ring (like a kids one they use in swimming pools). Not sure if its what you want but might be a cheap thing to try, and guess you could pick it up at carrefour or kids shop.... and you can inflate as much or little as you think you might need/ Just a thought. The only pillows I've seen are more like breastfeeding/sleep pillows that are fat and long....if you used that, I guess you'd drive with your head out the sunroof;) Hope you're keeping well, and bump is bouncing around with joy:) Good luck with your hunt! Hiya Ms Aprils, Hope you're all full of hormonal smiles....:D and keeping well. desperatejumjane - I saw on 'pregnantindubai' website that as long as you're married before delivering, you're fine.....take a look? Hope it eases your mind. Phily - was great to meet you - you're looking so well! Bunintheoven.....hope you can join us if you get a chance next time (not arranged anything as yet but anyone very welcome!). How was your scan or is it still to come? I agree, where's my glow!?!?! Constapation....I forgot about that but yes.....put that down to my bad memory....lol! I'm glad I'm not the only one gettin the muscle pulls in the lower abdomen. Its funny, your weekly food habits, what's this week? Bet poor hubby's constantly changing your lunch menu;) Liking your zombie lunchtime walks....might do some of that myself! Know what you mean, I've got pregnancy vitamins then calcium tablets in addition but means I'm doubling up on magnesium and zinc....urgh.....and taking the pregnancy vitamins but now feeling worse for it......how can something full of goodness make ya feel soooooo not good??!! I had another weird symptom last week.....had sever shivers in the middle of the night.....like I couldn't stop shaking.......managed to dive under hubby's fleece dressing gown (he was travelling...no good as the human hot water bottle - urgh!) and within a minute I was toooooo hooootttttt....ggrrrrr....what's all that about!? NT Scan Thursday for us, then another scan (think for scanning sake!) on 20th......then back to blighty to (hopefully) tell everyone the good news. Fingers crossed.....legs not crossed (bit late for that ehh?!!?) lol! Let me know how you're all getting on:) Stay safe and just imagine that mineral water has a vodka in it....mmmm..... Max

Hi - thanks for all the input regarding different hospitals and docs - good to know! Eli1979 congrats, so pleased for you both that all is well:) Did the gyny tell you everything looked fine there and then or did they make you wait? I've got my scan next week. Wow they could tell the *** already? Desperatejumjane - sorry I haven't a clue if the month's diference is an issue - hope someone else can help x Latifa does seem very good; think a few ladies on EW mentioned that the hubby wasn't allowed in the wards, only in the delivery room when you get taken through so depends on how you feel about this. The babycare there is supposed to be the best, which is important but hopefully something none of us have to use. Awww poor Phily, hope you're not feeling too rough:oS My morning sickness has started to settle...hope yours doesn't persist too long. Male Gyny? I do think it can be better having a male sometimes...they base on knowledge and aren't likely to say 'stop being a drama queen, get a grip!' lol! Has anyone else had some other symptoms or is it just me being a bit weird?! -my body smell has changed, not bad but different - tis very bizarre-I don't know me anymore! -from week 6 I can't turn over in bed or get up from sitting too fast....otherwise I pull my lower abominal muscles -milk and yoghurt products leaves a horrid sour taste in my mouth...eeesh -windy.....blimy, I'm so unladylike! My poor hubby -memory....I can't remember things at all, its driving me nuts....e.g. I served my fav meal and had my favourite sauce in the microwave....finished my dinner and forgot to even have the sauce...it was th bit I was looking frwd to the most - lol! deeerrrr -still hasn't sank in that there's a baby inside me (though my clothes don't fit)....when will this maternal gene wake up!! I've heard the hearbeat, seen the baby wavin at me, for cryin out loud! Urgh, my poor baby is gonna have to put up with chaos;) I did panic when I had a scan last week and there ws a black splodge in the scan inside baby's head....aagghhh.....quick searches on internet...ahhh, turns out its not got a bit of skull missing, its one of the glands.....phew! lol Keep smiling everyone - def up for a catch up this wknd (if you can cope with a sourmouthed, smelly, windy panicky woman that keeps forgetting your name;)) minaxim(at)gmail(dot)com. Hi phily, hi bunintheoven:D Congrats both of you - first timers too ehh? Hope you're both well and initial panic is starting to settle - heheee. Nausea - mine started the day after i took the pregnancy test and has never left...but is slowing a bit (but replaced by indegestion...nice! lol). I read somewhere that to calm the nausea is a bit of a one way or the other....either it helps to have 'hot' stuff like ginger tea/ginger biscuits etc or cold stuff like ice/mint. For me I tried the lot - heheee, and though I'm completely bored of them, ice poles/ice lollies/mint chewing gum etc make my tum settle within a min....worth a try maybe? Gatorade?!! hmmm might try that - thankyou phily! Its true about eating ehh? First time I went out for food after I found out, I was completely stumped by what to order from a menu.....ya think ya know what to eat til your given a limited choice! I've got dinner out for hubby's birthday tmrw.....the first course options all have liver which I love but can't have....or a beetroot veg option with goats cheese....urgh! Pass me the bread basket;) Telling people....to be honest I was a bit of a mess when I found out...panicked etc so told my best friend and also my sisters as I realised being away from home, though they're far away, I needed the emotional support as the docs here aren't really great at that I found. I had a 6wk scan, and a 10wk scan yest and luckily all is well so far....big test is the next nuchal scan:oS Hope you're coping with working and pregnancy ok - mut be tricky sometimes with the nausea? Which docs/ hospitals (if any) are you thinking about? I'm in a dilemma about whether to switch at the moment - would be interested to know if you've heard anything/had thoughts/preferences. Chat soon :) Max x

To Dangerous Blonde - ahhh thankyou so much - its really nice to know I'm not the only one and its good to know that its what happens here so I can change my expectations. I thought that by going to the hospital I was going to get a more indepth service but it seems its better with community care.....maybe I should consider the local gyny. Really sorry to hear about your miscarriage but congrats on this pregnancy:) I'll head over to city tmrw but seems that service will be similar at City anyway ehh? Thanks Emily, you're definitely a pro, having had 3! You're right, it is personal preference....I'll have a nose around both first then decide whether its worth switching. That's really helped thankyou! Max

Hi, my name's Max and I'm 7weeks pregnant too:) I'm going to go along to th open session at City Hosptial tmrw to have a look around. I have already had my first scan at American Hospital and I'm not sure whether to stay with them with my first experience......let me explain a bit.... .....as a new first timer, the news of motherhood has come as a shock (even though it was sort of planned) and from seeing the local GP here and seeing recommendations, I booked a first appointment at American Hosp with Dr Nasreen that has excellent recommendations. I got there very early on my own (hubby was away) and slowly got more and more panicky in the waiting room as I saw lotsa new mums with babies/heavily pregnant women etc.....thought I'd be fine on my own with these things but obviously not! Mistake one learnt- lol! Go with a mate! The nurse called me in and didn't take the blood pressure correctly/forgot my weight/ etc and then went through a list of standard questions on family history etc. but it felt quite impersonal getting questions fired at me, with no response/reactions but silence. There was another lady in the waiting room that had wanted to see Dr Nasreen in between appts so I was then left waiting for 10mins until she came to see me....stress level rising.. When she arrived Dr Nasreen seemed nice, and calm and said who she was, took me to a different room and told me what we would be doing (internal scan and a chat beforehand) and she was pretty good....however she answered 3 mobile phone calls whilst in my appointment (even though she told them to call back/ chat at lunch).....one of which was as she lubed up the probe....yikes! I had told her I was a first timer and was feeling nervous about being there etc. The scan was fine, and she was gentle and made me feel comfortable. I'm a little at odds, as some things didn't go well because I felt out of control and the team there didn't seem very in control or interested. Other things like the mobile - I will tell her next time to not answer unless in emergency. I don't feel she looked at my notes before seeing me, and so issues with my blood pressure/thyroid etc was news to her. I'm of a mixed opinion.....I was hoping to start to build a relationship with a gyny and that she would be equally interested in knowing about me and talking about how I was, if I'd been suffering any symptoms and offering advice...but maybe its early days and I'll get more info at next scan etc. She did advice about what not to eat and to stay away from my cat...poo leo! She also sed about what happens next regarding blood tests and scans. I came away a bit tearful but a bit of comfort food/sleep/ chat to best mate has helped. I'm going to look around at both facilities, AH and City. I've had a lot of good reviews about both places, and the AH seems pretty good overall and I don't think they'll do a bad job. Its difficult to judge how much emotional support I was expecting and how much realistically give here in Dubai and probably realise now that I need to rely on friends/ family more? Or should I try a different gyny? Can't decide quite where it went a bit wrong to be honest..... Sorry to hog a space on this thread, thought some of this may be of use to aimee or someone reading it and thought it'd help airing this..I feel better already -heheee! 'had a bit of an hormonal wobble' Max ;):)

Hiccup-ahh bless ya, don't worry! I was in exactly the same panic last week when I found out...still fretting now but starting to sink in. If you wanna join us for a coffee, please do, and we can flap like mother hens together:);) ....and hopefully calm each other too! I've seen my GP two days ago which helped (I had her to retest my pregnancy as I still couldn't believe it wasn't just a stomach bug-lol, she probably thawt I was mad!) and gonna try a local gyne this afternoon to start looking at the process....things seem very different to the uk here. Hilsbils-you're lucky to not have the nausea:) I'm trying to eat more (as I was on a low cal diet) and its proving tricky but getting there....how bout you? Appetite still good?

Hello All April Dubai Mummys to Be! Ahh glad I'm not the only one;) I've found chewing mint gum seems to calm the nausea for a while....worth a try? Mine seems to be lasting all day everyday, so I'm using gum and ice poles for an hour's respite a couple of times a day. Can anyone recommend a Gyn/hospital in Dubai? Has anyone chosen one already? .....any info appreciated! Wow, can't imagine how you're all coping, considering you have children already...one husband and one cat is enough - heheee!
