Thanks ladies - thats why im more inclined towards a daycare (not as a complete newborn amazingdxb - for when i finish my maternity leave) as they are more experienced. Just wanted to have the baby in safe hands if the maid ever needs to babysit foir a few hours for whatever reason.

Hi ladies - im expecting my first in a few mnths - and stilll debating on what to do after i go back to work. While im quite convinced i will have the baby in a daycare near the office so i can be close by, i would like my maid to be fully prepared for the days that baby stays home... Ive seen a couple of 1hr classes - but i think i wouldnt mind something a little more extensive. Have you seen anything around? Many thanks..

yes you are absolutely right mums2girls - i will defo send her home for the operation and see if we bring her back after. My biggest issue to be honest - is now finding someone else that i would trust with a baby. I have heard sooo many horror stories from so many friends (and on here) that its almost worth keeping her and getting in a part timer to help her if it all gets too much than risk a whole new experience. What makes it harder here is the whole sponserhip issue. Would feel so much more comfy if you could hire and fire without feeling like you literally held someones future in the balance...

Ladies - thank you all for all your help and ideas. She is from Sri Lanka - and i was told that while she could not get a new sponsership at the age of 60 - she could continue renewing her existing one til the age of 65. Anyone know if this is true? I had been convinced yesterday to `retire' her - but cant bring myself to do it. I work long hours and the thought of having to train someone from scratch and make sure i trust that person. Also shes great with our dog and i know she will love our baby. I will take her to docs and get an opinion on teh operation (or if she really needs one) and how urgent it is and how hard the recovery will be and take it from there. Thanks for all your help ladies!

[i'>Retirement package, are you bonkers...she only needs an op at worst and after 8 weeks should be able to return to work...I think the OP has to consider whether charity begins at home (with her family first) rather than the maids?[/i'> Not sure i understand what that means? you recommend i just let her go? or wait it out til she is better?

the other thing thats got me feeling so guilty - is cos of her age - technically believe i can keep renewing for the next 5yrs...whereas she would not be able to get another job because they wont give a new visa for 60yr olds...

its a huge problem. Shes also just turning 60 and i can see alot of ailments starting. but if we let her go - she wont be able to work anywhere else (as she cant get another work permit) so my conscience wont let me do that. Shes caring and shes honest and im at work all day and i trust her alone in my house. But i just dont know what to do. We are also expecting our first child - and while i know shed be very loving - i dont think she can cope with it all and im not sure yet i can afford two. and now if we need to send her back for 6 weeks - pay for her flight and her operation and hire a temp while shes away....

thanks mushypeas - did you sil have it in dubai? Just did a google search on it and most websites say surgery is not necessary - do you think its ok to just take her to a gov doc - or should i take her to a normal clinic? And a question for all ladies - would you send her back home to do it?
