My ex bulshit boss applied for one. Company assets are required to be listed, audit needs to be done as well, around 5-6k for that, 6 months bank statements for the company and personal, etc. You need to pay some % before you get the loan if I remember correctly. The bank was Rak Bank, they were most flexible at the current situation on the market and all that. I can get you the number and name of the guy that was arranging all that. There are financial companies that offering such loans, but they are dealing with the banks and there is no reason for you to pay them extra for something you can do yourself, the documents will be the same.

Guys, thank you so much for the support. This is my first and I am alone here, no mom, no family, so Internet is the teaching tool… it is not easy and I am afraid that I am doing things the wrong way. Thanks for the great ideas, especially for the "Cheerios", really liked it :) I’ll continue with the routine and see if he gets it (he is not complaining, just sits there until has a red circle on ****) :) Just one question. Is it better to use potty or to use toilet seat. I have one, but didn’t use it as I was thinking that he is mall for it. His step-brother is 16 and the small one is not interested in what the big one is doing that much. I'll try the book too Moustique, thanks. It may be the one thing he needs :) edited by mpp_jl on 01/06/2011

what i did for my lil one was get her into a routine... first bath, then dinner, then story time, song time and finally the big hug and kiss goodnight... also she was quite excited with her new room coz it had all her favourite stickers and toys in it... i leave a night light on until she's fallen asleep then i go in and switch it off... another thing u could do to wean her out of sleeping with you is to get into her bed with her... wait till she falls asleep and then sneak out... eventually she might learn to sleep on her own... last option... u could always threaten that if she doesnt sleep in her room u'll give it to someone else... mine was convinced with the tone of my voice so now refuses to sleep in my room even i want to cuddle up with her... I agree with the quoted. Routine is the best way to teach them all the things you need them to know. Plus, you have to be strong and not give in on crying (with limits). My little monster sleeps in his bed from 2,5 months, but this is not common. Good luck :)

Ok, that was great! I am sitting in my office and laughing by myself, just like in that song “I’m not crazy, just a little unwell”…. You made my day. I can so get into this mom’s shoes….

Re u using baby cot or the car seat type? here the car seat type is very popular, but not good for the baby back. they get back pain and they will cry. the cot is the right one and you can use a support pillow to raise them up a little so they do not see only the sealing :) u'll get frustrated too :)

It depends on your company. You may check with your HR if he/she is nice or ask around about someone else that did this before. Not all companies follow the law. Anyway, it depends on your pregnancy, how you feel and all. I was super till 9 months, no sickness, no nothing, so I had no problem. Some have big problem, so… Hope you will be ok as me :)

Yes, I prefer to pack myself too. I know a place you can take used boxes in perfect condition for 1dhs per pc, but I see you found some free ones :) Good luck Thanks, but please send me the location of this place or the contct details. I need more than what i have got now. thx It is in Al Quoz. A friend works there. I am not sure where exactly as he brought them to me when I needed some. The company deals with shoes and they have lots of boxes 120x45x30 or something like that. They sell them at 1dh per pc to staff. If you want I can arrange with him to take some and you can pick them up from there.

Hey all , i too am planning to quit after the baby but cant figure out whether i should: 1. Do the whole 8 /9 months and then take maternity leave so that i get paid for the 45 days (which i think i deserve after 3 years with them ) and then when maternity leave gets over then tell them i am not coming back at all or would that be unethical 2. Leave in my 5/6 month as anyhow once they find out i am not intending to come back they wont pay for the 45 days Please give ur valuable inputs You can take your maternity leave after 5/6 months, not necessary to wait till the end. If you resign they have to pay you also the end of service benefits too, so it is not so bad, but do that if you want to only after you get your maternity leave money. cheers

Thanks mpp_jl, Well the case is a distant memory. I apporached it as a 'project'. DD is 14 months and I am pregnant with number 2 :) I have a busy job which involves travelling between continents and in new organisation no one had a doubt that I can do my job. Oh - it is not aboutproving the reason. It is about wasta here. The reasons were obvious and stated in writing ;) edited by JoannaS on 01/06/2011 I am so happy for you JoannaS :) Good for you! Just put it behind you and enjoy your mama time :) It is their loss after all, right :)

bumping if anybody had a similar experience? Ta I am sorry to say that in any case the result will be 0 or close to 0. I was working for privet company and after I had my baby and wanted to return to work after the ridiculous 45 days of maternity leave by law here I was told unofficially that “you see, we don’t need you anymore as now you will be distracted by your child”. I went to the labor office and it was just filling up documents – no result what so ever. Grrrrrrrrrr………….. I am afraid with semi-government or government companies will be even harder to prove that it is due to your pregnancy. Unfortunately it is up to prove that the reason is this, not that, so…… My suggestion is to push for your maternity benefits to be paid, plus everything else and after to look for work. One hint – don’t mention that you just had a baby, it will not affect your application positively. Good luck and enjoy your time now, don’t let them ruin it for you :)

I am a working mom with 2 kids and I don’t have a maid. I don’t like to have an outsider in my house, call me crazy. Plus with the restrictions on nationalities for maids here….. no way. You just need to hire someone to pick and drop your kid. I have a good lady driver, always on time, plus it will cost you less. The big one goes to after class football so I have no problem. I posted advert on ExpatWoman and got lots of replies. You just need to spend some time screening, that’s all Cheers

O dear… you are not inadequate mum, it’s normal. My advice – try and do all together so that way all is done with the maid is done with you. Kids are like that and it’s not personal. I have to say that you are very lucky if you have a good maid, as I have suffered. Now my little one goes to daycare and we are ok. Had the same problem though in the beginning. It passes. You have to have in mind that they are small, but still with character :) Good luck and Cheers

I am worried im not feeding my cats enough!! They always have dry food, then they get fed wet food in the morning and then again at night. I have had them for three years and all of a sudden over the last few months one of them is forever wanting food!! She will even fight her sister away from her food bowl so she can eat both bowls of wet food.........she greeds all the time when I am in the kitchen......and would quite happily take my food off of my plate. Do i just have a greedy cat?! Or am I starving her!! Cats are like people, some need less, and some need more. My fat cat eats 3 times a day, but as per recommendation from specialists – 2 times should be ok. Mine monster needs 3 times and she is little fat, but very happy. Try mixing with wet food – one dry, one wet. They have different calories, so…

Morning! I am on the hunt for an Indonesian style dark wood, carved mirror and small bench seat for my entrance hall. Does anyone know of any reasonably priced stores stocking this type of thing? I am guessing there might be something around Al Quoz? Thanks. There is storage –warehouse type store in Al Qouz, on the way to Emirates Mall. They have lower prices. If you want lower than that, you can search second hand one on ExpatWoman. Cheers

Hi, I’m not sure about Cyprus, but I made mine at my consulate, as you need to have witness. They did all the work and I just needed to pay 50dhs. That was it. I suggest that you can check with your embassy/consulate. Hope this was helpful. Cheers

I agree very very much. Unfortunately in UAE there are no laws on anything concerning animals, so…. My neighbors look at me so strange like I am some crazy person when I collect my doggy poop…. But what am I talking about; here it is unthinkable to wash your car by yourself ……

You are so cute…. Don’t worry. Try this http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/~jajoo/gmdiet.html it worked for me beautifully. I lost 7 kg for one week! It makes you feel much better and I fit in my 10 years back clothes…. He he….:) Plus, it is not difficult to follow Cheers and Good luck let me know how it works for you :) I am current 71.5 kgs and need to get back to 60-62 kgs. I had a baby a year ago but even before that, the weight was creeping up. Now, for the last month and a half, I have been working my ass off in the gym combining cardio and floor exercises 5 days a week (I used to be very active and fit). I have been kinda watching my diet (am a no junk food person anyway, eat mainly veggie at home and alcohol is my main vice). Shouldn't I have lost SOME weight with the addition to exercise in my daily life? A kilo? Maybe two? I lost a lot of weight a few years ago but that was mainly through working out like mad and literally barely eating anything. I am now in my 30's and my body cannot handle that kind of exercise or starvation to be frank. My body is hurting. DH keeps telling me I look more like I have gained weight than lost any. If I had lost maybe a couple of kilos I would feel motivated to keep going, but at this point I am just going into a negative spiral. Add to this DH's pep talks which dont help in the LEAST and I am just about losing all hope. Any advice? I cant afford Rite Bite, etc to be honest or a trainer at this point.

Hi, I use Oman Insurance – Comprehensive and never had to pay anything but the 50dhs on first entry, plus it works for almost all hospitals in DXB. Make sure to look for direct billing and not claim, as with claim you will wait months for your money. Cheers

I guess it depends on your toddler skin type. My son was with oily skin and I used lotion 2 times a week during the summer and one time during the winter. You can see for yourself – if the skin reacts it is too much or too little :) Hope this helps :) Cheers

She really needs to go back to speak to someone nice in the bank. They may waive the charges but obviously not the security cheque. Thanks, but I have dealt with Mashreq before and there is no one nice there :( It took me more than a month to close current account :)

post the question to the National and Gulf News letters help page where they try to mediate with the banks. Suspect she will have to pay the charges but maybe with some help can negotiate them down. When your down here they just kick you harder. Very true, imagine… they arrested her with her toddler and dragged her to the police station just to take her passport as security that she will not leave the country!!!! Can they just ask for the passport and finished?! I have always heard stories, but never happened to a friend of mine. That's terrible, the jails are full of similar cases, can she afford to pay the cheque and charges back? If so so it asap, if not she needs some legal help. Well, the thing is that the cheque was for 3800, but the limit is 5700. The bank is asking for 10 000. 3800 is not a problem, 5700 can be managed, but 10k.... She is afraid that if she gives them the 10k they may ask for more. I've tried the central bank if this is legal, still waiting for reply :( I was wondering why you are giving security cheque if you are not paying the same amount? If is fishy I have to say, but then again the rules in UAE are..?!x@# As for the lawyer – they cost money too and she is money trouble…… Unless there is someone who can advice her for free just what to do… Thanks 
