Try Ghungat - they have a tailor they use who is just around the corner from them. Even if you don't buy from them, ask them about the tailor - they did my wedding outfit and the tailoring was perfect. Thanks a lot mrs13b. Any other shops that you suggest for outfits too? You must have a lot of experience if you shopped for your wedding here :) Not so much, unfortunately - mr13b and I travel to Dubai a lot for hols/his work and Ghungat was a recommendation from a friend who spent a lot of money there! I think I just got lucky - the owner recommended a place for me to get bangles/costume jewellery etc from, and Cara made my wedding jewellery, so I managed to do all my wedding shopping in two days! Hoping to get better familiarised with Mena Bazaar when we move to Dubai in a few months.

My husband and I are both veg and we've never had problems at Chor Bazaar (Monday Mela is good value and a decent veg selection). India Palace has good food at affordable prices - we usually go to the one at JBR but there's a nice one in one of the malls that is a proper restaurant, not in the food court.

Wouldn't mind learning photography GPP is great for anyone interested in photography. I did a class a few years ago while I was in Dubai on hol, and am looking forward to moving here so I can do more next time! http://gulfphotoplus.com/

Thanks Sugarbeach. We looked at the HMRC guidance and find it difficult to decipher! We also note that there are reliefs for split years i.e. the year you leave from (or return to) the UK. Still none the wiser! It sounds like we'll have to get some advice from our tax advisers. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/worksheets/sa109-notes.pdf Hope this helps. I asked our tax accountant to clarify the changes for us, she sent me this link. It appears there are no simple answers....and very much depends on your personal circumstances! edited by Sugarbeach on 05/07/2014
