I have a couple of 10 year olds leaving my group this year, and wanted to buy them a little keepsake. I was thinking of a silver necklace with maybe a palm tree on it, but all of the silver shops I know have closed down! Anyone know where I can get them? Gold is out of the question.

Hi Izzy99 Yes the alternative is r*ts ,I am sure we have all heard about the plague in the middle ages. There w*tch hunt that swept the country resulted in most of the cats being destroyed. The healers as I like to call them always had cats living with them and they became a casulty of these hunts. The result too many r*ts who hosted the fleas that caused the plague. History lesson over ladies ...LOL Please contact I.V. to voice your concern, the alternative is too terrible, and will not solve their problems long term. edited by Nomad on 14/05/2011 And how many cats catch rats in Dubai? I have 2 cats and one dog. cats both catch rats - as well as birds, lizards, other cats, etc. Dog catches mice - carries them around live in her mouth!! edited by mrsg on 15/05/2011

So, now have the countersignatory in black ink (originally signed in blue), but..... Can anyone who has done this recently confirm whether I need to send supporting documents for a renewal of child going into first adult passport? I can't decide, reading the info with the application! Under 16 renewals - just send in the existing passport. Over 16 renewing but now getting full passport - it looks like I have to send my birth certificate etc as supporting documents. Surely they already have all of this on file? Yes I can call the Embassy - tried that last week but was left hanging on the phone so long i had to give up and go back to work!!

;-) They will just dont forget no watering before or after. They will. Just don't forget, no watering before, or after. So don't wash floors, or garden if that's where they are spraying.

This may seem stupid, but does it matter which colour ink the countersignatory signs in? Mine has signed in blue ink. don't want to send it to Germany and have it returned, because it should have been black.

I saw him 2 years ago at Media City and laughed til I cried. This time - nope, not feeling the love. Too many Ámy Winehouse'moments - standing there with nothing to say. He came on at 8:40 and went off at 9:15 for a 40 minute break - probably to tear a strip off the waiters constantly walking in front of him!I found the constant movement annoying, and he certainly did! But when he came back on, TBH, there was very little funny material, and a lot of shouting of risque words, rather than jokes and mickey taking - which he is really good at usually. The blue humour was something I was looking forward to - we are all adults and I miss the occasional disrespectful, rude, comments comedians in the UK get away with all the time. But this was more like listening to an 8 year old who has just realised that saying pe*is and w*lly etc can get extra attention. The set up was all wrong too. Who thought it was a good idea to put the F+B stations right at the front by the stage?? I think I will only go see him in the UK from now on. He was funnier as Fagin in Oliver than he was last night!! Really disappointed:(

We all love chilli crab, but I was put off by the mad voodoo woman in the adverts. Chilli crab is Singaporean! The Hilton Creek does lovely chilli crab. Expensive, but a lovely treat for birthdays.

Check his paws carefully. Lots of sand areas here have harvest mites in, and if your dog picks them up they will irritate him . They are tiny, but bright orange, which helps to spot them! If it is mites then you can get a treatment wash from the vet.

I've suffered from this and know exactly how you feel. In my case, my iron and vitamins had got so low that I was practically hibernating!! My problem was mainly extrremely low B12, which you need to retain the iron your body needs. If you live near Jebel Ali, go see Dr Sabrina at GMC outside Al Muntazah villas. She is really good at this - and has seen it before with me!! Chin up - it gets a lot better once diagnosed:)

The commute from Mirdif to Jebel Ali is MIN 1hr, and at peak times its a nightmare! I suggest you dont choose Mirdif ....... unless your DH likes driving! I live further down the road than MIrdiff (takes me 8 minutes to get to Uptown MIrdiff), and I travel to Jebel Ali every day. I don't use the Emirates Rd as that is the longest route. I drive either over Garhoud Bridge and up the Shk Zayed rd, or over Business Bay and join the Shk Zayed at Safa Park. Either route takes me 50 minutes from door to office within Jebel Ali Free Zone. I live on the edge of a great patch of desert, and my dog runs off leash every day. It's also nice and quiet. I think your Ridgeback would prefer Mirdiff (and a swim in a private pool) - as long as your DH is happy to drive each day. 50 minutes is nothing really, less time than I would have to commute if I lived in the UK.

A word of warning: A friend had her dog on that beach about 3 weeks ago. He was well behaved, splashing in the sea, and the local family also on the beach didn't mind at all. As they were packing up a man approached them, showed his municipality badge, told them he had taken their picture, and warned if he saw them on the beach with the dog again, they would be fined AED 2000!!

Yes, we have finally found something that really does need an I.D. card. Coastguard are refusing to register or re-register boats unless the owner has an I.D. card! At the moment there is an 8- 10 week wait between applying and getting the appointment to go for finger printing etc, so if you do own a boat here - get the process going now. OK - So can't spell anyone! and can't change the title either:( edited by mrsg on 10/04/2011

We have just come back from a quick look see at the Villa. Is there any area better than another? And how much time is plenty? We don't actually need a new place until June, and it looks like there are loads available on the Villas, but is that maybe not the case?

I know. I couldn't quite believe it myself. That's why I bought all my eggs today, just in case they realise that they are cheaper and put the price up:)

Choithrams and Park N Shop have them (but beware PNS are much more expensive) [b'>[I don't agree. I compared PNS and Choithram, and PNS are cheaper. I just bought Cadbury eggs for my class at AED 18 each.[/b'> [b'>They are the size eggs that, when in a box, cost AED 30 upwards, but Cadbury has got wise to the green movement away from unnecessary packaging, so these are without the box. They are still nice size eggs, with caramels or mini eggs inside.[/b'> oops, how to get rid of the bold... edited by mrsg on 27/03/2011

They're not new. They've been here a while. Anyone remember the labourers out at the camp near Al Muntazah in Jebel Ali protesting about 5 years ago? The police used water cannon to disperse them then. I guess they are on the roads now to remind us all that the police still have them.

If your DH doesn't have time, call Javad on 050 4516978. He has his own PRO company here and can do virtually anything and everything, and is 100 percent trustworthy.

I know lots of schools do this, but I think it is a terrible practise. My children go to EC and they have never asked for an amount to secure the place of an existing student. I can understand asking for a deposit for a new child, because, as we all know, some people do apply to more than one school and leave it to the last minute to confirm. But an existing student - nope, don't agree with that at all.

I've got one in the shed you can have. Blue and white stripey material. Am sneaking on this at work, so won't see any reply until this evening - but you are welcome to it...

As someone paying their own school fees, I have no wish to see a 30% increase. However, it is reverting back to the 30% over 3 years rule that used to be in force prior to the KHDA limits of the last few years. Most schools look at a 10% increase each year rather than 30% in one go. Lets see who the greedy schools are! Edited to add that 10% increase each year will just about finish me off, but as the college mine are at has, to date, been really good about increases and fee payments, I'm hoping they continue to be as reasonable. edited by mrsg on 05/01/2011
