Thanks very much, Daza. I will try both of your recipes as well. The curry sounds delicious! I was asking about pmd's pasta but I'll try that too. Just need to get used to cooking more. I guess I was spoilt with M&S before we moved here..

I've ordered the weekly box from them for over a month now and I'm happy with it. As the weather is cooling down the selection is getting better as well as the size of the veggies. I get a weekly newsletter and I also like them on facebook to get regular updates. If I only knew how to cook some of the vegetables. The aubergines go to waste most weeks...

The Oman visa costs 50 DHS. If you need a driver there are drivers that charge 150 or 200 per person. There was a thread a few days ago which stated that the renewal of visa in Dubai costs 650 DHS ( or in the region of) and you can only do it once. Hattan/Oman can be done multiple times. Let me know if you need a driver recommended.

Hi, I have some Jasmine and Bougainvillea in pots. We bought them from the Garden Centre and they look nice on our balcony. I have also tried to plant some seeds in pots. The lettuce seems to coming along nicely though I'm not sure how big it will grow. I have also planted some flower seeds and spinach. They started growing quickly but then slowed down so let's see if they actually grow to full size. I'm watering them 2-3 times a day and hoping that it is enough.

What I meant is that if you aren't on a direct flight you can't transfer your duty-free (liquid) shopping as you have to go through another security check. And Zurich duty-free is not cheap.

Hope it's not too late but as far as I'm aware you can't buy duty-free in Dubai flying via Zurich to the UK. There are duty-free shops in Zurich but they are expensive so they aren't really worth it. We flew Dubai-Zurich-Dublin in April this year...

Ladies, I have a friend who has this last week moved to Dubai from Scotland, (i now live in Abu Dhabi, so am not so able to meet up and take her out and about), she is Finnish and is quite 'arty' does pottery, photography, does reflexology, reiki etc... tree hugger stuff. She is struggling a wee bit, sat in an apartment all day. She is normally funny, and friendly and interesting. Ive told her to start surfing EW forums, and to go along to the coffee mornings etc till she finds her feet and can make friends. However, I would appreciate if anyone can give me some idea of where and what she could be doing to make new friends, I had heard about an Art Hub, or something like it.. anyone any idea? I'm into a few things from the list above and I'm from the same region. If she would like to I would be happy to meet up for a coffee or drink? edited by N0rdique on 24/10/2012

Isn't a bit odd to have sleepovers at that age? Also- I don't know the size of your maid's room now but all the maid rooms I have seen have been tiny. How can one person live in a room that size? Wouldn't it be too small to have two people sleeping in it unless they are in the same bed?? Apologies if it's just me that can't visualize a maids room as habitable (I've only seen them used as storage rooms or empty)

I have no sympathy for kiss&tell sl*ppers either. Bounced cheques for $20,000 sounds quite serious to me. She shouldn't have drawn attention to herself in the press if she had done a runner...

Sorry to hear that you have issues with it now. Which side-effects are you experiencing? Fingers crossed I will be ok this time. I have had breaks from it before and I've been fine back on it. I can't wait to be back on it again as my periods are so painful; even with strong painkillers. What a shame that we can't get Feminax here!! I'm also too emotional during the period and the pill appears to keep that in control.

Thanks very much ladies. I better start looking for it before my next period starts. I haven't taken them for months as I forgot to to get a new prescription from my GP before we moved here. I thought I could "brave" the monthly pain and flood but I've had it now. Cerazette was great as I have no period at all when taking it.

I have sensitive skin too and have tried a lot of different products over the years. I find Clarins very good. Their sensitive skin range is mild and does not contain much perfume.

Apparently it's cheaper to have call centres. In the long run companies with bad customer service call centres tend to lose customers though. There are certain companies I will never have anything to do with again...

Great campaign. We should all add the restaurants that don't serve local water. I added one of my favourite restaurants. It annoys me that they only have Vittel and when you ask for local water they give you a funny look.

I have skype on my Iphone but I downloaded app in Europe a couple of years ago. There might be a restriction on downloading it here? Workaround could be logging into itunes with an European login and download the app and update the phone.I have not tried skype calls over 3G but it works connected on wifi. Not sure now with other mobile phones what you can get. On Skype you can upgrade to premium and select one country that you make most landline calls to. You then get free unlimited (within reason apparently) calls. I have premium and it's a big saving if you have family/friends that still have landlines. Check their website for more information. Apologies, just saw that you wrote that he has a Nokia. Check the below link for a list of Nokia phones that Skype works on: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/get-skype/on-your-mobile/download/skype-for-symbian/ edited by N0rdique on 09/10/2012

I have an Iphone 4 which I brought with me here. I will not install the "upgrade" to iOS6 as I've heard so many negative things about it (especially with losing google maps and youtube apps). The Apple maps have had so many reports around world with serious glitches and it's not properly up to date. I'm not even sure if you can revert back to an older software version once you've upgraded. With previous software updates I have waited several months before I have installed them to give them a chance to fix the glitches. Apple seem to release software that is not properly working. A friend of mine had issues when she bought an Iphone4. She lost all contacts and apps that she had on the Iphone3 even though she did a backup. It's always worth it to google what issues users have with new software before updating. if OP is after using Google maps I would recommend to not update the software to iOS6. Very good decision! I regret installing it:( I am trying to look for a way to downgrade it back to factory software.. I found this that might be of some help: You can conduct a factory reset (Restoration to settings you had when you first got the iPhone). However, all user profile/data will be wiped unless you backed them up to iCloud or so. Settings->General->Reset->Erase all content and settings. Note: You can no longer conduct a real 'flushing' or reinstallation of iOS5 because Apple has moved on and no longer validates iOS5.0 with their servers, thus making an iOS5.0 reinstallation impossible. The earliest "reinstallation" you can get is iOS5.1.

i try really really hard not to use taxis, if i do i expect them to stink, be dirty, be useless, rude and the experience to irritate me...... if only one of these things happen, it's better than i expected..... There is no public transport where I live so I have to get taxis. I have a European driver's licence that I could exchange to a UAE one and get a car but the traffic and the dangerous driving habits here are putting me off...

I have been in Dubai for a fair no of years and used many many taxis but the absolute worst experience was a Filipina in a Pink taxi from the airport to home and she was just so full of anger and venom at seven in the am that I just asked her to drop me off halfway and preferred flagging another one with my luggage. Never felt happier to get into a stinky male driven one after that I can assure you. :) Completely disrespectful, unsafe and I can't imagine how foul her mood may have been on some poor unsuspecting customer by the time her shift ended. Avoid pink taxis!! It sounds like I'm better off avoiding the pink taxis then... :-/

I've had mainly bad experience with taxis here. A lot of them are rude and don't know where anything is. Once I got a taxi from JLT to Palm Jumeirah and the driver did not know the way. It appeared that he couldn't read either as I showed him the signposts on SZR and asked him to look out for them and it should be easy to follow then but he still kept on asking "where now Ma'm". I've only lived here for a few months and I haven't been driving here so I have to rely on taxis. I also find that they are ungrateful for the tips. Most of them say nothing. I would expect some manners- a little "thank you" can't hurt can it? I said to my husband that we should stop tipping the ones that are rude or don't know the way. Tipping should encourage them to be more professional. We've also had problems ordering large taxis. The standard comment from the taxi centre appears to be "no big taxis available" or we can send you two taxis. Two taxis would be useless when you actually need a large one to transport a larger item from the shop.
