There used to be an ad for Purely Pearls somewhere on this site, with some contact info etc, can't seem to find it. Does anyone know where/which section it is under, I want to check something.

Tastes are all different but here's my honest opinion- probably the best curry I have had in 10 yrs of being here!!!! We used to like Currybox but they got greedy and refused to deliver an order less than 500AED so we tried Royal BBQ last week. It was lush! It was also far far better value, with pretty large portions. Naan bread was a little different but still very tasty. I have been craving it ever since, such a shame I am trying to be good :(

The manager probably could not believe you could actually seriously expect them to pay for your replacement. Quite frankly I think she was quite restrained.

At the old group I attended there was no charge, we simply used to take a slimming world diet friendly food item and add it to the pile and it would be the prize for the biggest loser! It was a very informal friendly group mind, no one out to make money, just support, as most diet groups are here :)

Ladies, if any of you fancy having a crack at running your own Slimming World kind of group, I have a whole box of resources left to me by a previous leader. The intention to start a new group was there but my circumstances changed and I just haven't had the time to organise it. If you are interested, let me know on here then I'll post my number briefly. I am at The Villa and you can pick up any time.

Mom, Lakeland at Mirdiff had several makes, including their own yesterday! Also wanted to add, look at rice cookers too, mine has a slow cooker option and will cook for up to 4 hours then keep hot for 12 hrs! <em>edited by NannyMcphee on 02/09/2012</em>

Gosh, took me an age to find the website but so glad I did! I had tomatoes, cornfed chicken and some other bits and pieces delivered and was delighted with the quality and service. The tomatoes were just fantastic, full of flavour and the chicken was the best I've had for a long time and no more expensive than the rubbish in Spinneys! Thanks for the heads up Mrsbrown ! http://chezcharles.ae

Can't help with the blazer but will say whatever you do, do not buy the 290AED blazer from the uniform shop! It is the tattiest piece of rubbish I have ever seen and they really are taking the **** if they think THAT is acceptable. I bought a lovely blazer from M&S for 175AED and if they don't like it, they can lump it.

Whilst I am thrilled to see this new rule, I couldn't help but share our recent experience. I took my LO to see Madagascar 3 at 2pm, one weekday last week. The film was great, we both laughed most of the way through, however, not as much as the four elderly people next to us! I am not joking, these four old folk were laughing so loud that we missed half of the dialogue! After 45 minutes of guffawing, LO turned to me and said "shouldn't the big people go and watch their own movie mummy?" Personally, I didn't mind so much, I love to see/hear people enjoying themselves, but thought how ironic, wonder if they would have enjoyed children making so much noise through their movie! NMP

I have had the same thing happen to me repeatedly at Chevrolet. They take your car, keep it for 3 days, return it telling you it is serviced, you drive 10yards down the street and it still has the same issues! They then take it for another 3 days and tell you they found the fault! I cannot wait to get rid of my car for this very reason. The service centers here are all manned by complete imbeciles who are going to kill someone one day from their lack of competence. I say report them, though not sure what good it will do as I am yet to see Chevrolet improve their competence after me doing my utmost to have them investigated.

Just had our first bill Luddite and considering we have a pool leaking like a sieve, it wasn't a shock at 4000. Its a big house, 2 v ungreen teenagers who leave every light, tv, a/c switched on and an enormous garden to water. Compared with our last property at Motor City, where it averaged at 3400. i"d say it was ok. However, I am on a mission to get it halved as it's such a cool house, the AC does not need to be on much and once the pool is fixed, that should make a huge difference. Hope this helps. Love it out here by the way, so friendly and peaceful! Nanny

How about an unfinished string of pearls, that way they could be made into worry beads for the men or necklaces/bracelets for the woman. It's also a nod to the regions past Pearling industry so is also quite cultural. Purely Pearls sell some of the nicest and best value for money fresh water pearls in Dubai .

Purplerain, jumping on the back of another thread but have a thought about this http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=136493 If you have a DSO forum why not arrange an evening with one of these companies and send out a general invitation? I did it where I lived and met lots of people who I formed great friendships with! If you don't have a forum, perhaps put a notice up by the pool? Good Luck Nanny

Joe-ama, after several years(yes years) of trying to find a good carpenter to restore my dining table, I finally found Thomas 050 4820692. He just delivered the table last night and it is beautiful, far better than I had ever hoped for. The cost was so reasonable that I had doubted that I would be happy when it returned, BUT, it is fabulous so can highly recommend! He does every kind of carpentry, from restoration to bespoke furniture to display stands and sho[ fit -outs. No job too small he said! Good luck NannyMcPhee

Going to have a wee rant, because I am furious and don't know where else to vent! We rented a bungalow in GC,MC 2years ago. When we moved in there were buckets and buckets of sand in the villa, but did I make a fuss? No, I just cleaned it. There was no landscaping, so we went through all the paperwork, running backwards and forwards with plans etc to get permission for a small patch of grass, some brickwork, lights, trees etc-15,000aed worth. Did we make a fuss? No, we just got on with it. Come to the end of the year, landlord wants an extra 30,000 aed in rent! Told him RERA rules no increase after first year so he backed down. Now at this point we were already fed up with him but weren't in a position to move so had to stay another year. We'd purposely chosen this villa for it"s location (and paid extra) being only 3 doors from the swimming pool but mid way through the first year we were told we could only use the pool during hours when none of us were actually around. Did we make a fuss? No, we just never used it again. OK now that wasn't the landlords fault perse but we did ask him to make it known to UP our thoughts and he just ignored us. Now we are at the end of our second year and sitting happily in our new villa. DH went to return keys yesterday and landlord refuses to return our deposit on the grounds that we haven't repainted the villa (doesn't say anything in the contract about that) and that we have planted trees that are against UP rules-well excuse me, THEY approved them! We have paid all that money for landscaping, ok not the best, but still, where do these robbing landlords get off? We had a quote for painting the whole villa for 3500aed and he still insists its going to cost our 10,000aed to put the villa ready for rental! We are almost past bothering about the money but why should they get away with this? I am tempted to hire a man with a chain saw and cut down all of the beautiful trees but thats not fair to the trees! Short of banging on the door of the new tenant and telling them what to expect from this man, I don't know what else to do! However, if anyone IS moving this week into a bungalow there, it is right under the clock tower!

I cannot yet comment about Dubai as we just moved :) but we had ceiling fans installed where we lived earlier and our electricity bills were significantly cheaper. We've done the same here tho are yet to use. Regarding humidity, aircons do have a built-in dehumidify function but unless humidity levels are very high that's not necessary in Dubai I understand - so it is really a time of year thing. Oh dear, I think you may be in for a wee shock!

Having perused this question over and over, I am finally going to commit to writing it down but I am dreading the outcome. OK Here goes: Moving costs, having been kicked out of our homes (usual scummy landlord stories) twice, around 30,000aed Estate Agency fees of 5% given to someone for what exactly? 30,000aed Landscaping gardens of 3 houses (usual scummy landlord stories) 45,000aed Maid sponsorship around 28,000aed Maid 'pilfering' around 10,000aed Property purchase 5 years ago, never built and since cancelled but money all spent from so called secure ESCROW-90,000aed Speeding fines whilst on holiday??????500aed School application fees for places never taken-or offered!!!! around 8000aed DEWA bills for water leaks underground from piping not fitted properly or water tanks with holes in them 27,000aed Emicool charges just for the privilage of having it, should I want to turn it on 16,000aed actually, no, can't continue, too depressing!!!! <em>edited by NannyMcphee on 16/02/2012</em>

Yes ladies, see other thread! I too suffered from monthly migranes wth Aura, spots infront of my eyes, numb hands/face , the works, just as though I was having a stroke! I had them 20 years and then after I was forced to seek a second opinion about a constant dull pain in my head, neck and shoulders, I finally saw an Osteopath and acupuncturist. That was a year ago and I have not had a migrane, hardly even a headache, since!

Only offering another suggestion, I had constant headaches and migranes for months, was told by a Chiropractor that I had slipped this, slipped that, scoliosis etc etc. Paid enormous amount for 6weeks of treatment and still no relief. Went to see an Osteopath for same thing and sore shoulder/neck, a few cracks and crunches and some amazing acupuncture and no more headaches! Sometimes our bodies need a bit of 're-aligning'. Worth a try!

Thank you for your replies ladies. May I ask how you tell the difference between the developers? Is it that Mazaya built phase 1, the other company Phase 2 etc? Also I noticed the nasty one's had pools but the lovely big one didn't, is that significant? Should I be looking for one without a pool?

Just wanted to add, theoutnet.com are brilliant, sizes are a bit off but returns could not be simpler, you just call the courier to come and pick up and the money is returned as soon as it arrives back in their depot (took 24hrs!!!). AlWaslMom, just wanted to let you know it seems there is indeed a big problem -this year especially. My neighbours dog almost died from a disease from a tick and she said at the time that the vets said it WAS unheard of but there have been many more cases this year! I have found a few ticks on my dog and have also had pest control over, but they said it was pretty pointless as they are not allowed to use the poison that will kill the ticks. Other than regular tick dips/ combing and wearing Frontline, I don't know what else can be done, sorry to say :( Nanny

Bateaux Dubai, was recommended by a friend and was lovely but lacked atmosphere. In years past, it has apparently been booked up but there were only maybe 15 tables or so occupied and never really felt 'Christmassy'. It was also pretty expensive considering we all paid the same regardless of whether we drank or not. The food was suprisingly good though and I would imagine, if you booked out the whole boat, it would be terrific. Early Bird offer before 01st December 2011 – AED 490 and AED 200 per child below 11 yrs old, after 1stDec, AED580!! Included live music (very subtle) and a gift for the LO, soft drinks, wine and beer. Actually, compared to a Bubblicious brunch , it was a total rip-off lol!

I've been having this spasm for weeks now, driving me mad as I KNOW my eye's are tired but not sure what else I can do do 'rest' them! I've had my prescription checked, don't spend so much time on computer, try not to 'manage' without my reading glasses, as I used to, and STILL it continues. I saw a specialist when this happened the first time, about 5 years ago, and she couldn't find anything wrong, said it would just go away and it did. But now it's back :( grrrrrr

There was an issue with the club house too. When we moved there 4 yrs ago, we were promised a clubhouse with pool, bar etc. We watched it being built but even a few months ago, it still hadn't opened. I still get emails from residents association and the owners are still battling with the developer as regards to maintenance and district cooling charges so I would be v careful. There are a lot of houses that needed major overhauls after hand-over too, so make sure you look at everything in minute detail! Run the taps-our pipes were all full of cement and had to be dug up and cleared and the water tanks are sunk in the ground and are prone to splitting. Also, all the tiles fell off our pool in the first year! Not the greatest of builds IMHO.
