Hi ladies. Just cooked dinner (steak and chips) the villa is stinking of frying, yuk! The chips were broken, oily and quite vile tbh. I blame the potatoes??? After reading the recommendations for the air fryer I'm seriously considering getting one at the w'end. Can I ask how much do they cost?

Because her husband appears to have left. Some man he is? She's mooching around my house with her miserable attitude, which I am doing my best to ignore, but not easy. And unless I keep her here to complete her contract or at least some of it,I don't know how else she'll get back home? She's pleading poverty of course. Don't want to be anymore out of pocket, but don't know what else to do?

Hi mum2girls. My initial thoughts were of suspicion too to be honest. My dh actually got an interview for her hubby when we first got wind of the news, but he refused it?! He told dh that he has been in Dubai for 7 years and had enough of the 'tension' in his job and being in Dubai. His intentions apparently are to go back and work in a garage? Not what he does here btw. The maid is a bit, actually a lot, dependent on him. She does nothing without him. She has never even gone as far as the local supermarket without him! I don't know if it's his decision to make her go aswell? I tried talking to her but she's saying she has to go as she can not be here alone. I explained lot's of ladies cope perfectly well and she has got her kids to consider now that their income will be gone. My plan was for her to work the months notice to pay back her loan. But now I realize that the flight should be covered by her then the loan is negated anyway. Her hubby seem's to have disappeared today as he was meant to meeting with my dh before his departure to sort out flights and payments. She is working as usual today (albeit her room is packed) and I asked her where he is she said he'll be back later? By luck and chance I have another maid ready to start soon so this will have to be sorted out before the end of the week. I'm hoping that he'll show up, pay for her flight then they can live happily ever after in their home country, with no 'tension'.... My common sense is telling me that we'll probably end up paying for the flight as well as losing the money. I'll have to learn from it I suppose. My granny always told me "don't lend money you can't afford to lose"...

Thank you. I didn't think about that regarding his employers, perhaps that's what happened? I believe he is leaving on Sunday? She did work on Thursday (even though she threatened not to), but what she actually did was questionable. She went out today and I went into her room, I've never done that before and felt a little guilty, but I wanted to see the state of it. Apart from being a bit smelly it looked ok but what I did notice was ALL her things packed? Doesn't look like she's planning on staying for a months notice. Her passport is in the safe, that was mutually agreeable at the time. The way she is behaving I don't actually want her here for a month anyway but I don't know how she will afford her own flight? Maybe I should ask her husband to pay? As you've said it will probably cost more than the remaining 1000dhs she owes anyway. I hope that this will be resolved soon with a little compromise on their part? What is it with some people? They just don't seem to care even though I've been kind. It's disappointing:(

My mum and dad wanted a w'end break in uk so sent them money, lazy but useful:) My sibling's are too numerous (ha) so we treat each other when we catch up over the year. I do send money for the nieces and nephew though ( how lazy again?) My dh is having a tattoo!! It's what he wants? So I'll pay for his Xmas gift. As long as it's tasteful???....

The normal size sim card won't fit. When I bought mine I went to a kiosk in the mall which sells electrical stuff and phone accessories, there are a couple dotted around MOE. There they were able to trim my original SIM card down, hence no new card, no lost contacts, cost about 20dhs? I'm on pre paid and it doesn't cost me any more than my Nokia did, however I only use wi fi if I want the Internet, I'm not a great techno phone type person lol. My kids however have the etisalat package for 100dhs per month which gives you 1gb of data plus they top up with pre paid cards for calls and sms's, which isn't much because they use what's app, Skype etc..... Hope that helps?

If he calls again, transfer his call a few times, put him on 'hold', play some Muzak, then come back on the line and say in your most endearing voice"sorry ma'am/sir our policy is no refunds or exchange". Refer to Dubai customer service centre..... Seriously though, don't panic yet, it really could be something very innocent as others have said. Worrying causes wrinkles!! ;)

Hi. I don't know of any particular clubs in JLT (sorry). Does your son like sport? Because if so, have you thought about joining a football academy? There are lots in Dubai and he's sure to make friends. Or perhaps a theatre group if he's interested in arts?

Glad I'm not the only one! Don't know why I was 'afraid' to join before? Anyway, glad that I have now, because yes it is a great forum. Thanks for replying too, it's nice to be welcomed.
