Another recommendation for all the girls at Ted Morgan - I've used many of them over the years (as I have to go every three weeks to cover those greys I can't always see the same one) - never been disappointed. And the coffee's good  edited by pinks on 13/02/2015

...and just make sure you can prove where you got the cash (receipt from your bank etc.), else they won't touch it. But yes, they will offer better rates. Make sure you tell them how much you want to exchange before you hand your cash over, and ask them for their best rate. edited by pinks on 12/02/2015 edited by pinks on 12/02/2015

AED 625 per tyre including alignment seems very reasonable. I paid just over that last year for changing mine (Kia Sportage).

I've been using Darwish from Gift Palace for the last four years: 042662955 darwish at giftpalace.co He'll come to you with a catalogue if you want to see what's available, or will source other things for you if you've seen things online. Wouldn't use anyone else now!

Choitrams - the cheapest box in there is AED 35, and have surprisingly good bits and bobs for the price, and some very funny jokes we hadn't heard before! ETA there are 12 in a box, and they were red and silver edited by pinks on 22/12/2014

Apart from this weekend when I believe there's 25% off everything (always worth booking your flight to coincide with their birthday!) most bottles are actually cheaper in the UK at the moment with Christmas promotions at the big supermarkets.

City Hospital has a fab breast clinic, and Dr Alex. She's a breast radiologist. They take most insurances as far as I know, as long as you get a referral from your GP. You'll find lots of recommendations for her on here, but she is hard to book as she's so good, hence popular. Sometimes it's worth paying the AED 600 to see Dr Houryia at Well Woman to get straight into see Dr Alex if you're worried. Good luck.

If you mean the one on Al Wasl Road (with another branch in Mirdiff), I've used it on and off for the past 6 years - super staff, can't recommend them highly enough. Why? No oversell (it's always "see how you feel" rather than "make another appointment") and all properly trained and registered. You can search for other threads on here recommending them. I see Aziza.

If you don't currently have Netflix, then sign up for a free month. I've just done all five series of Breaking Bad for free! Now sadly addicted to House of Cards and paying for the subscription, but it's only £5.99 a month - a bargain in my book!

A plea to the new ladies on this forum - please don't ask for specific names of vpn providers on here - they are illegal, and hence easily get blocked if discussed, and those of us who reply on them (for streaming live BBC etc!) would not be impressed. As with most things in life, Google is your friend. Thanks for understanding :)

Jones the Grocer also does really lovely platters of mixed rolls and sandwiches, plus single serving desserts. They also do salads, but they come as standard in white boxes, so you have to decant them yourself prior to service. Subway? I can't even bring myself to eat it, let alone give it to important guests as the ingredients are so low quality. We've had other departments order subway platters, and they are also large sandwiches - certainly not suitable for picky finger food to be eaten delicately in a working meeting.

Oh yes :( Caused by the natural drop in oestrogen levels in your body - several things you can do to alleviate this such as oestrogen gels, continuous contraceptive pills, migraine pills just prior to getting them (after keeping diary for a couple of months), etc., etc. Not nice, and can get worse as you approach menopause. Best go and discuss your options with a nice gynae.

As said below - it is BYO - you give it to the stewards and they serve it to you. I've never given mine to the stewards! I do the DXB-LHR route fairly often. Given it's a 3am flight out of Dubai, I've never seen anyone drinking on that leg, but on the return, its about 6pm out of Heathrow, and the duty free in T4 does a nice range of small bottles of wine (airline size) and miniatures. I normally buy two, have one with a film, and one with my meal and never had any issues.

Popped into my normal currency exchange place last week where I’ve had an account for the last 5 years, always sending AED back to my UK bank. Negotiated the rate, handed my Emirates ID card and cash over, and the teller shows me the screen with all my details: Teller: Please check ma’am. Me: Yes, that’s fine, thanks. Teller: Ma’am, please check. Me: Yes, that’s the correct account details. Teller: (pause...) But ma’am, that’s a British pounds account. Me: Yes, that’s my UK account. Teller: But ma’am, you’re Australian. ???

Why not give the restaurant a call, then you'll have a definitive answer? All the vouchers have contact details on the reverse.

If you're not coming with him, I'd really suggest he lives in Abu Dhabi, not Dubai if he's working in AD. It's a minimum of an hour's drive each way (I do it!) and up to 2 hours depending on where he'll be based, and would eat into any time he has with you when you are in country. Lots of family areas in AD - where's he going to be working? It's quite spread out...

As littleone says, know what you are looking for with regards to dates and you'll be fine, but I've found the guys at the petrol stations very helpful and very competitive. I use the tyre place at the petrol station in the Greens (sorry, can't remember the brand name even after using it for 10 years!) as they are part of a biggest chain and will get me tyres from their warehouse generally same day if they don't have them in stock. Legally they need to be less than 3 years old here for you to pass the annual registration, but you may want to change them much more frequently because of mileage / heat damage - mine only go 14-15 months tops. Know what you want, know where to look for the date, and you'll be fine.

I live in the Greens and have been working next to AD airport for three years (8am-4pm) and it never takes more than one hour, keeping to 110-130kph, depending on the traffic. As long as he leaves the area by 5.30pm, he won't have any trouble getting back either, though occasionally it's a bit slower on a Thursday evening. A [u'>very [/u'>easy commute! A lot of the companies based there have buses from Dubai and back everyday. They are dreadfully un-advertised, even within the company itself, so worth asking. Don't get caught up in the scare-mongering re being made to live in AD - we're semi government and we're allowed to live where we want. His HR department will be able to advise if that's not the case.

A second recommendation for the breast surgeon Dr Houriya Khazim - she's fabulously reassuring (and a great surgeon if you do need one), and as she works with Dr Alex, she'll get you an emergency appointment with her if she thinks you need one.

It can vary day to day! Suggest you do both routes a couple of times and see which one you like the best - I've got colleagues that do one route, and some do the other. Some go in one way and out the other! We have a good message-network for when there's been an accident on a part of the road home if one of us leaves before the others... not too frequent an occurrence, but it does happen. Just make sure you've got some good things to listen to in the car - I swear by BBC Radio podcasts, and actually enjoy my commute :)

An obvious question, sorry, but had he turned the 'Find My iPhone' setting on when he bought it? Sadly it wont have been stolen by anyone that knows about iPhones, as the new security on them will not allow a new SIM or any type of re-setting to be done without your husband's password or fingerprint being entered. Hence as soon as this is discovered by the thief, it will probably go in a bin. edited by pinks on 05/04/2014

As CP says, it really depends where in AD you are working, and who for. I work for the government near to the airport, so the hours (8-4) and travel time (just under an hour) mean I'm actually back at home before I would have left the office when I used to work in Dubai. I've been commuting for over three years, and find the drive easy, but then I'm leaving at 6am, so both ways am avoiding the worst of the traffic. If the job is on the other side of AD (where I used to work), I'd say forget it, you wont have a life!

Oasis at Wafi is fantastic for hats/fascinators - the owner and her assistants work magic. I had an orange silk dress for a wedding last October, and after going everywhere in Dubai (and nearly fainting at some of the costs) came out with a fascinator to die for within about half an hour at Oasis. Do take your outfit - they then get everything out for you, as it's often things you wouldn't look twice at that work perfectly with your outfit. They'll even change things for you - the one loved was almost the right colour, and within minutes they'd swapped out half the feathers so it WAS perfect. Oh, and very reasonable prices.

My personal opinion is that the VIP tickets really aren't worth the money. Buy cheap (some deals are 2 tickets for AED 85 thought not sure if they are still available) and buy the food and drink you want with cash. If you look on the website you'll see the dish prices (average AED 20-30) so you can work out if sitting in the small roped off area is worth it to you. The last couple of years you've been able to buy voucher books, but all the stands have taken cash, so I really didn't see the point, and means you don't get left with vouchers you can't use, or spending more than you wanted. VIP just gets you access to a small private area, but it's much more fun being higher up on the grass, sitting with whatever you've bought to eat/drink, listen to the music... and sign up for the tastings, which are all free!

My advice would be to have a protein heavy meal this evening, and stay away from the carbs on your fast days. They are basically quite calorie dense for the volume-satisfaction you'll get. I normally (am fasting today!) have two scrambled eggs as late in the morning/for lunch as I can, then a huge bowl of Asian style vege soup (base made with chicken stock, soy sauce, and chilli/garlic), with some form of protein (chicken/fish/soya bean) and as many 'leaves' (spinach, bean sprouts etc) to make up the 500. Go for volume - 2 maltesers will just make you want more sugar - you can always have them tomorrow! Keep drinking, as much liquid as you can and vary it. Oh, and keep busy!

And as soon as you stop the diet the weight comes back on. Disagree. I've been doing 5:2 for a year now, and in fact I now just do 6:1 for maintenance, as I don't want to lose any more weight. If you look at any of the FB support groups, you'll find hundreds of people who find this a VERY workable lifestyle, and it is a lifestyle, not a quick fix diet. Please watch the original programme - you'll see weigh-loss is a mere side effect of this way of eating!

According to all the newspaper reports, and confirmed by all my working friends, if you normally only get Friday as holiday, you got Friday and Saturday. If your normal weekend is Fri & Sat, then you got today (Sunday) off. Those in government sector (luckily myself included), get a four day weekend, returning to work on Tuesday.
