Bussola is nice for pizza but it's more informal. The restaurant downstairs it's not so great. Bice Mare is VERY expensive. Pai Tai is super nice, the food is amazing. Have you considered Pierchic? It's very expensive, but it's the most romantic restaurant in Dubai. In fact, last time I was there, a guy was proposing to his gf. There's also the 101 at One & Only The Palm, if you make reservations in advanced you can take a little boat trip (for free) from the One & Only Royal Mirage. All the best in your first date! edited by pmd on 10/01/2012

I have started a weight loss pilates class. I think the combination of exercises is good, but I also need to cut down on carbs, which I find very difficult :(

You can get the Financial Times for free for a month, as a "probation period" and then decide if it's worth subscribing or not.

The kite surfing beach is the best (and cheapest) place to go. I go kayaking almost every w-end there and it's a great beach too.

I can't believe someone could spend so much money in such a cheap and horrendous place. I hope whoever spent that money gives the same amount to charity.

I just finished reading "I shall not hate", by Izzeldin Abuelaish, a doctor from Palestine. Very sad and moving. And now I'm trying to read "A history of the Arab peoples" by Hourani, but it gets too specific sometimes.

Apart from the obvious Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa, the Emirates Towers and the Palace Hotel Downtown have bars with very good views of Dubai.

After searching for a long time, I got mine from the florist at Ibn Battuta mall, close to Geant. I bought 10 meters for 30aed, so cheap! Next time I'll buy the full roll since it's so difficult to find it here.

I'm palnning to start french language lessons in January .. i've located 2 affordable places one is Alliance Francais and the other is Dar al ilm. Did anyone try any of these two? any other recommended places? Thanks ladies :) I'll be starting in January at the Alliance, I think it's like the 7th of January. So maybe we'll see each other there. I guess it's the best place in town to learn French and very convenient if you move around since they have branches all over the world. Au revoir. Merci :) yes they're starting 7th January and I've been asked to visit on the 2nd for a tour and registration. I guess you're right about them being international and all. so i guess i'll see you there :) are you starting level 1 ? I had some french in school (can't remember any of it at the moment!) I'm not sure if I'm supposed to start from the first level. Yes, I'll be starting level 1, I can read and write some stuff but my pronunciation is very bad so I think it's better to go back from scratch. See you there :)

If you need to send a letter or postcard, you can do it at Dubai Marina Mall, close to the parking for Waitrose or at Burjuman Center, somewhere outside.

honestly, i'd advise against it over Xmas - Kenya is a hit tourist destination over Xmas new year with not only international tourists, but local and tourists from neighbouring African countries. Things are triple in price now, with everywhere expected to be busy - especially if your planning to go to the coastal towns - Mombasa, South coast, Diani etc... My friends live there and I made the mistake of visiting last year over Xmas... Thanks for the advise, it's just that we've been to so many places already that we don't know where to go, and the flights to Kenya are not so expensive. One thing is for sure though, we don't want to stay in Dubai.

My favorite is Medzo but it is in Wafi. There is also a great Italian restaurant in the Emirates Towers..I can't remember the name at the moment. Mosaico is the name of the Italian one at Emirates Towers. Oh Great, thanks! Do you know whereabouts it is inside ET, I was there on Friday night and didn't see it? Although everywhere was dead, Noodle House, Agency and The Ivy. Yes, it's in the lobby of the hotel, to your right.

Happy birthday!!! I wouldn't consider Toscana an Italian restaurant, the quality of the food is very poor. You can try Segreto, also at Madinat Jumeirah. Or if you want something fancier, go for Bice, at the Hilton Jumeirah. Enjoy.

I don't really know who to call anymore. I've contacted the agent, Mr. Youssef and the Facilities Manager, Gerard, but I had no positive answer from them so far. The gym is in worst conditions than it was before, all they've done with the AC panels was to paint them, to hide the mold and then, the fire alarm, I have no idea what happened. I'm fed up to pay a rent to live in this conditions, and we still have like 8 months left in the contract :(

I think it would be nice to get all together so at least we look more powerful. We rented through an agent and he's basically refusing to give us the contact information of our landlord, which I find it very strange. I would also like to make a formal complaint, break the lease and leave the building.

It used to be a good building but since the management changed everything is getting worse and worse. When I contacted them regarding the mold in the ceiling they said they had order the new panels but it was going to take some time, that was like a month ago. And now with no treadmills working, both jacuzzis broken, we will have to enroll in a gym. As if we didn't pay enough money for the rent...

I'm so sad, was there on Saturday and my DH left his sunglasses somewhere in the store. We've checked with the staff an hour later and nobody had seen them. Also reported it to the Lost and Found, but no luck yet. Any ideas?

I think that they do it on purpose. Yesterday they tried to charge me 80aed for 2 kg of oranges. The woman in the fruit section said it was a mistake, but then did a second one trying to charge me 30aed. In the end, the real price was 8aed. I'll pay more attention from now on before paying. I wonder how much money they make like this?
