Hi - I am planning to buy my husband an Amazon Alexa for his birthday this week. But I have heard that Alexa bought in UAE does not have all the functionality that it does in the UK. Is this true? Thanks We’ve got Alexa and it works fine for us ..... mainly use it for playing music. There are some features that require location that don’t work but we probably wouldn’t use anyway. I bought them back here from UK.

Happy New Year! I'm about to book EK flights home but cannot decide between LAX or SEA as the (first) landing. Can anyone tell me: 1. If I choose LAX, I'll only have 1:40 mins between my Air Canada flight. Is this enough time to make my flight? I've never flown into LAX, and don't know the terminals. I'm travelling outwards with only a carry-on. 2. Is it possible to find out if the 'new' 777s are on the DXB-SEA route? Many thanks! NL x LAX can be quite time consuming to transit but really comes down to which terminals you are connecting between, this can make a huge difference, even with carry on you are likely to have to clear security again and I would say 1:40 is tight. SEA ... My other half has flown this route and tells me they use the 777ER and ages differ but always good.

So I am little worried as I have just had results back from doctors that show inconclusive Pap smear and positive HPV. The doctor has said I need a colposcopy but has now also said I may not be covered by insurance. Has any one else has experience with this? I am worried I won’t be covered as I cannot afford 5000dhs plus for the colposcopy. Sorry to hear this ..... I don’t have direct experience but the only place you will get a conclusive answer is from your insurance company. Cover does differ slightly from company to company. They should give you an immediate answer. Hope it goes well.

You can get the cleaner while they at your house and tell them that she complained about the toilet being too dirty and so you are apologizing for them as the cleaner won't be cleaning it. Why blame the cleaner ...... just be honest with them :)

Are these the same people who made a mess of your bed ? (from your post about mattress cover ) Personally I wouldn't worry about the friendship if that's how they treat your home ..... if someone messed my bed and knowingly left sh!t in the toilet numerous times they would never step foot in my house again ..... I could make do without friends like that .... they clearly have zero respect !

Depositing large quantities of cash in the UK is not so much a tax issue but relates to the banks reporting obligations and due diligence in relation to money laundering, hence that you sometimes encounter questions about its origin. Which is generally no big deal.

We received a legal eviction notice of 12 month for the reason that LL sell the villa. We moved out and we discovered that house is again rented. Dubai style.. If anyone has experience dealing with Rental- Disputes Committee on this issue and could advice it would help. Its not free to login a complain (3.5% of the rent). LL is Egyptian and has lot of construction companies... So it can be a big fight with no result... would appreciate if someone has win a case ?? thanks It may be rented but do you know for certain the same LL is the owner ?

Hi, Can anyone tell me the best and cheapest way to transfer money to U.K. please. Also,, I know that it is legal to carry 10,000 pounds in cash into U.K. but would a bank let you deposit it ? Sorry can’t advise on forex services other than exercise a lot of caution using online services some are regulated and some not out here. You can pay £10k into a UK bank, you may get asked some questions but they are only doing their bit for money laundering. Really depends on your relationship with the bank and whether it flags up as unusual.

Wait for it ! ....... Isabella will reply asking for the details and you will promote your company again ...... forum spamming at its best. ;) Hello Ranstone, I think we all respect your righteous crusade you have going on in this forums but I do not believe anyone here has any malicious intent. I appreciate any assistance on these forums and no one is charging or scamming anyone. This is a free public forum and everyone has the freedom to provide helpful information to the public in the manner they choose. I think rather to attack others in their forums, let them express themselves. No one is being harmed and I think HK2017 is just trying to be helpful. I choose to support versus attacking a harmless post that you never know may actually help an individual. Maybe someone is a similar situation and in need of help. Maybe HK2017 is trying to promote her business maybe she isn't. You may feel its your calling to point out individuals who dare to use forums to promote their business and to name and shame them. Bravo to you! and as a women I respect that but again I do not believe any woman comes here with the intent to cause harm but rather relay their message in a way that the general public can relate to. I chose not get in a public forum dispute but kindly ask you to step away from posts that maybe you do not agree with. I’m not on a crusade .... and I won’t step away from posters who are spammers. The forum has rules for a reason .... (although they are not particularly well enforced by mods at the moment) The reason is that as you can see the forum ends up full of spam and self promotion of businesses rather than women discussing or asking about interesting topics. If someone has something to promote, that’s fine but be transparent rather than the obvious and devious spamming which may or may not be a scam and therefore harmful. :)

Can someone out there tell me if it is possible for a company here in Abu Dhabi to pay salary into a bank outside of the UAE? We are being told that it is only possible for our salary to be paid into a UAE bank account. Thanking you all in advance for any help you can give. Usually only into a UAE account if you are a local employee and it’s a local company. If they say they won’t then there’s not a lot you can do. Ours is paid locally and then we transfer it back to the UK each month.

Hello, Does anybody know does your month's notice count in your end of service gratuity calculation? If you stay 5 years the gratuity in my husband's company is calculated at a higher rate than if you are less than that. If he hands his notice in one month short of the 5 years but works the month up to 5 years does that count or is he missing the cut, his HR says he does. You have to be a full 5 years before resigning, would this be right? thanks! It’s the full 5 years where my husband works ...... not sure if it differs though.

Dear All, my Sri Lankan maid has been told that a new employer would have to pay a 20,000dhs deposit when they sponsor her. I can only find on EW a maximum deposit of around 3,500 - a heck of a difference. She was told this by some PRO at the company who used to sponsor her when she worked for her previous family (he was a surgeon and his clinic did the visa etc) Can anyone shed light on this? I think she's been completely mis-informed. I believe that the level of deposit is set by her home country embassy, the rules do change and it does differ country to country.

Hi, does anyone know how much it costs to ship a trunk/chest , full of personal belongings to U.K.? Can be Lots of variables ..... size, weight and speed of service. If your happy to wait a couple of months across the seas it will be a lot cheaper than cargo with Emirates for example. Best to measure the trunk and weigh it then you might get a better idea to compare.

Thanks Good morning regarding your abandoned friend please give her my contact details Ill help her in the best way possible including financially ( 056 372 6083 ) Aren’t you connected with a company called ‘High Life International Events’ ? ...... someone else perhaps promoting themself or having some other motive rather than having a genuine interest in helping others on here !! ....... (if anyone is interested just search the phone number on Google) Im a lawyer ( Legal Consultant in UAE ) and I wrote that I can surely help the lady I dont understand your question about the events company ! Read my message again please The phone number you have posted is associated with an ‘events’ company called High life International events. Unfortunately lots of people trawl forums such as these purporting to offer help, when all they have in mind is their own self interest. Which law firm do you work for ? If you are being kind enough offering your professional services and finance then you won’t mind sharing that :)

When you find help that does not hurt your pocket, its a good thing to share, I am just helping out on this forum just as you are!! I am sad to see that this bothers you, but thanks for keeping up with my posts! bye: It doesn’t bother me but when someone pipes up continually plugging a company who has just registered it’s pretty obvious what you are up to ...... will be interesting to see as time goes on whether you simply disappear or continue to offer other women your genuine support beyond plugging a law firm that could well be dubious !

Takes time getting used to. I wouldn't mind giving them a call if you can share there info. As long as they don't charge an arm and a leg, I have no issue giving it a try! This company was great with giving advice in legal situations like this and they are extremely affordable. Their website is www.asettadvisory.com. They review your case and give you the right directions on what steps you need to take. someone else spamming asettadvisory ....... pay for adverts if you want to promote them !

It can depend on the airline...... pretty much all airlines publish their allowances. Even though it maybe under the weight you need to keep in mind that some airlines also have maximum dimensions for checked items.

Really depends on villa or apartment ? DEWA bills could be very different for both. If it’s an apartment you need to find out if your cooling charges are included in the rent ? There is a standing charge of 5% of your annual rent divided by 12 before you even use electricity or water. As an example for the summer months our DEWA for a villa (occupied by 2 of us) was 2000+ per month obviously lower in the winter months. Internet and TV package +/- 500 per month Car - I rent a small Ford for 1200 per month Mobile phone - minimum around 150 per month depending on use. Food shopping - you could easily spend 2-3000 for a family of 4 depending where you shop. You also need to factor potentially bringing a lump sum for startup costs DEWA deposit, Internet deposit, 5% agents fee, 5% deposit to landlord. The list goes on ..... also don’t overlook that 5% VAT starts in January, which will affect many things including DEWA. With respect if you are already moving here the cost of living is the first research that should have been done, you could have a huge shock regardless of your level of income.

We are in the process of moving to Dubai and due to be out in the first quarter of next year. I'm due my second baby next year and would love some advice for the best care/consultants and hospitals to have him/her at. Also what's the policy in having other children and partners with you? As we won't have family out there. Thank you :) Are you paying for this ? If not it’s worth checking your husbands insurance, if it’s a new job the insurance may not cover you if you are already expecting when he starts the job/insurance.

Including bills and maybe some luxury items. Medical and rent are covered already :) Thanks in advance x Very difficult to answer without knowing more. Bills - What size property ? How many cars ? How many in the family . ? Etc etc Luxury items ? What do you mean .... it means totally different things to different people Happy to help but it’s a very vague question :)

If you really want to live in Dubai, check out the areas on the AD side like in Jebel Ali or around DIP. The cost of living are also lower in these areas. However I would also go and live in Abu Dhabi. I think the overall cost picture there is also better than Dubai. It is also very child friendly. As I have 2 friends in Dubai, I thought it would make sense to be there. However through the advice on this thread, reading though other posts here, as well as my sisters friend, the advice is to look at AD - both from a proximity angle to my husbands work location as well as schools. Thank you for your advice. I'll start to focus on AD - makes sense. We're probably looking to leave here after the summer holidays in the UK. thank you :-) Aren’t the summer holidays already finished in the UK ?

Hi everyone! I posted a while back stating I had been offered work which may potentially be based in Sharjah. I am patiently waiting at home to hear about location as they have recently stated it could literally be any emirate. As my partner is based in Dubai I would be unable to accept position if it is further than Sharjah. I have since been contacted by another job asking me to attend interview this week in Dubai! I am still in U.K. However really would like to attend interview but have been told entering the country while the other job await confirmation of my acceptance of location to then apply for visa may cause issues. E.G if job is Dubai/Sharjah and I accept position, they then will go ahead to apply for visa and I will be trying to fly home during that period to then come back when visa is finalised. Is traveling to attend interview this week too risky? Any help would be greatly appreciated, you can probably tell I am new to all of this! Thanks again x The situation is not entirely clear ...... All depends on whether the visa for the first job is in process (doesn't sound as though it is as you haven't even had a job offer or accepted one ) ? They wouldn't normally apply for your visa until you accept the role. If the visa isn't in process then you should have no problem entering and leaving. If it is in process then depending on where it is you could cause problems to the process by entering.. It's difficult to comment further without knowing the exact circumstance.

Hello My husband will be moving to the UAE shortly. He will be located outside Abu Dhabi. Both my son (6 years old) will move out a few months later (we are in the UK) I've heard Abu Dhabi is itself very expensive so I'm most likely to look for accommodation in Dubai as well as schooling. My husband will come home at weekends. I'm thinking of looking for a villa near a decent school. Im not sure about a car as I've not been to Dubai before so i'm not sure how easy it is to get around and do school drop off and pick ups with and without a car. I've been looking at accommodation in JVC. I don't know any other areas that may also be suitable. I guess it boils down to budget. I've heard about 120000AED to 150000AED gets you a decent place? I will not be working when i move out after my husband so looking to meet people like me also. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you all in advance Regards It's obviously personal choice but overall there is very little difference in cost between the two .... it all comes down to where you choose/need to live. Aside of housing AD is slightly cheaper on utilities as there is no standing charge. Where in AD is your hubby going to be working ? My advice would be to confirm the school first and then choose where to live once you know ..... if you do it the other way round you could end up with a horrid school run ! Worth a look at this https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=United+Arab+Emirates&city1=Abu+Dhabi&country2=United+Arab+Emirates&city2=Dubai

I am puzzled, and well, worried! May be one of you had a similar experience. My daughter (3,5yo) has been suffering from chronic diarrhea for nearly a year. We went to several specialists in Dubai, did stool test, gluten test, FODMAP diet etc. everything was fine. Still she was starting to look pretty poly and to lose weight so we went home to see a specialist as advised by her Dr. Few weeks after being home she started to feel better and once the 6 weeks waiting time to see the Dr. were over, she was perfectly fine. Still we checked her again for gluten, thyroid and pancreatic enzyme which all came back normal. Now here is the twist: since we are back in Dubai, the diarrhea started again. With the exception of ginger and soy sauce which we use more often here, nothing in her diet has changed. I am at loss to make sense of it. The weather? The water? Any idea? Sorry to hear of your difficulties ! A couple of things spring to mind ........... have you had your AC fully cleaned and sanitized recently ? also have you had your water tank fully cleaned and sanitized ....... even though you may not drink it the tank water comes into contact with many things ? Good luck !!

We had to concentrate on the southern part of Dubai within an easy commute of the Marina and Internet City. So we didn't really research any of the areas further north. We were initially open minded about apartments or villas and therefore viewed plenty of both. It's obviously personal choice but we very soon decided that a villa was best for us as it offered more space, small garden, easy parking and a little more normality having moved from a house in the U.K. We have not regretted the decision at all. We chose Arabian Ranches as it was away from the main hussle and bussle but still close enough for everything you need. We viewed properties in Meadows, Jumeirah Village Triangle/Village circle, The Villa and many others ..... all really nice places and all have pros and cons. If you can I would highly recommend trying to get out here for a few days just to drive around view loads of property and get a feel for places. We spent a couple of long weekends here before moving and we knew exactly where we wanted to live before we came. Which cut down the time in a hotel and the stress of finding somewhere quickly. I would add that our kids are grown up but we still needed space for when they visit :)

Hi ladies. Can anyone recommend a ladies bootcamp here or a gym where I can do cross fit? If anyone has a gym that they go to with good weight training classes I would appreciate the information also. Needless to say, I've just moved here and in need of getting back into shape after terrific summer of overeating:) Worth a look at The Circuit Factory, they have classes in various locations, you just pay per session ........ lots of ladies at all the classes and most instructors are female. Good morning ladies, We just got back from holiday and looking to purchase a car, however, we didnt know that we'd have to pay down payment and all other costs such as registration. At the moment we dont have enough cash flow for any other costs involved in purchasing a car. Does anyone out there know how else we can go about buying a car? Possibly where all costs incured can be included in the car loan. Might be worth considering a long term rent if you don't have the deposit, insurance and registration. We have one of our cars on a 12 month rent from Avis, which is fully inclusive of all costs, all we pay is the monthly rental which gets taken from my card. This way you get a brand new car every 12/24/36 months depending on how long you want to keep it.

Hello, I apologise in advance as this post will be similar to lots of the other ones (which I have read through!). We are looking to move to Dubai next year sometime. My husband will be working out here and I will be at home with our 18m old. Where would be recommended to live? I've done some research but would like personal opinions. I love the idea of being on the beach so looking at JBR but wonder with a little one whether our own outdoor space might be better? What do most stay at home mums get up to with their children? We are hoping to save a little money whilst out there but would also like to have adventures and explore everything dubai has to offer. What sort of budget for activities and fun things etc should we aim for? Any ideas would also be lovely. Thank you in advance X Hi I'm sure you will get lots of suggestions as there are many nice places to live out here. There are some important factors that are likely to have an impact on where you live. Firstly and most important will be your budget, then whether you want an apartment or villa, then last but not least the location of where your husband will be working (also how he will be commuting, car or Metro), then although it's a little way off keep in the back of your mind schools. Pointless setting your heart on somewhere only to find your husband has a nightmare journey to and from work every day or to find that it's way out of your budget. Does your hubby yet have a job offer and know what sort of housing budget you are looking at ..... that might help others advise.. Good luck !!

Dear All I am hoping you can help ! I have hired a maid and suggested that her package would include food . However we have two children and it's getting a little tricky as she's dipping into some of the kids staples which is racking up our grocery bill! Therefore I am going to talk to her about implementing a food allowance for her so she can purchase what she needs and then she can be independent and it releases us from the pressure of having to factor in her needs into our grocery shopping. Pls can you advise me of a reasonable weekly/ monthly allowance for her food . I will stay buy her toiletries as I originally agreed with her . Thanks for your help all! Unless it's the kids food for medical reasons why not just buy more of it ? Having a maid is bound to increase your grocery bill it's an extra mouth to feed ...... unless you want to ration her ..... but that doesnt sound particularly inclusive.

You should be fine for a nursery assistant role here on your husbands visa. A friend has just taken such a role in Abu Dhabi and doesnt have a degree and had no problem at all finding work. I'm fairly certain that a proper nursery 'nurse' here is usually a qualified nurse and has to be DHA registered etc ..... I could be wrong and it seems to come down to a variation of job title.

Hi, I'm moving to Dubai soon. I am looking to find a good health insurance providers ideally local ones. an anyone recommend please? What hospitals should I put on the hospital list - can anyone recommend some please? How long after moving to Dubai do you need to secure health insurance? I was told that it has to be done before residency. However, I'm self funding my move to Dubai and got my residency earlier in the year February, but my move got delayed, so I haven't been physically living in Dubai. I was told this incurs a penalty even if I wasn't living in Dubai - seems odd to have health insurance when you're not in the country to me, is this correct? The last I read the fine was 500aed per month Out of interest what type of visa do you have if it was granted in February and you haven't been in the country ?
