Yup it is the police. They 'pop' up from time to time. I have seen one numerous times on Academic City Rd. between leaving DSO and getting onto Al Ain Rd. Also further down Academic City Rd. closer to Mirdiff. When they first opened the Meydan Rd. by the new race course there was one there for a few days. edited by Rickadon on 30/01/2013

Hey elk1973 I feel your pain. We got the same email. This is our first choice, not sure what to do now as waited list at another school as well. Very disappointed. Fingers crossed they move up the wait list quickly and don't have to wait too much longer to get spots. edited by Rickadon on 24/01/2013

Forgive me here....but shouldn't you take the entire salary into consideration when accepting the positon?? As we all do!! Just because the school fees arent paid directly to the school but into your salary instead, isn't our problem! Emirates yes pay the school fees and housing etc, but the monthly salary is lower! When we accepted my husbands position we RESEARCHED everything! School fee costs, housing etc!! Weighed it all up to see if it was worthwhile, no nobody can predict such a huge increase in school fees rent etc...but please dont disrespect the Emirates contract and people because our salary structure happens to be different. We too are going to be out of pocket as the huge fee increase wont be covered by our "allowance" just like your "salary" wont include the increase. For goodness sake.....stop being so childish and next time before you accept a job read all the terms and conditions and research school costs etc if you have children, if you dont like it dont accept the job! [b'>Ahmen sienachick![/b'> We did the same as should everyone else and stop blaming EK for what they assume is this amazing package! Do your due diligence and make a decision from there. It appears that EK has an incredible package, and compared to some others, it is a good one. But, there are better packages out there, why not pick on them? edited by Rickadon on 09/01/2013 edited by Rickadon on 09/01/2013

Hi Bumbles1971 Halifax is home for me there are so many different place to rent 'around' Halifax. Are you looking for woods or water? Keji is very picturesque but there aren't any cabins there, it is tenting and back wood camping but no cabins. There are place near by that you can rent from such as this one: http://www.merseyriverchalets.ns.ca/ I can't speak for them as I have never rented in this area. But I have stayed at White Point Beach Lodge a few times it is right on the ocean and very family friendly. They had a big fire for 100+ year old Lodge last summer but I think the cottages are still being rented. Here is their web site:http://www.whitepoint.com/ If you google the South Shore there are numerous cottages/cabins for rent along there. This can be about 45 min to a couple of hours from Halifax. They would mostly be along the coast. Here is a website for The South Shore: http://southshorenow.ca/southshore/tourism/index.php The other area to look is The Valley it is more inland but lots of water ways and coastal areas as well. The web site is:http://www.valleytourism.ca/ It kinda depends how far from Halifax you want to go. You can also head North of Halifax to Pictou County another lovely place: http://www.threeshoresnovascotia.com/ Hope this helps, needless to say I love by home province!

Our car actually failed 'registration" a couple of summers ago as we had a sticker on the back. The guy had my husband leave long enough to take it off and then he passed us! Though I see lots of people with stickers on. Not sure why this law is in place!

As long as it is unlocked it should. Mine is unlocked and I have a sim card for Canada and here. I just switch, no issues. You can get pay as you go at home with half decent packages. I used Bell. Hope that helps.

HI Gabsgirl Children have to be 5 before the end of the calendar that they are to start in September. For example if your child is 5 in Nov of this year 2012 he/she will start school in Sept. Essentially any child turing 5 this year, 2012, will start school this September (hope that makes sense). It use to be the end of Sept in some provinces so best to check with the school board of the province you are going to, should be on their web site. If you go on mls.ca and look at houses in Vancouver remember you could potentially be paying $800 000 for a house that is a tear down, that is how expensive it is to live there, beautiful spot but very pricey indeed. Marycatherine a lot the east coast guys that went to Alberta went/go because there are no jobs for them at home. That will probably change with Halifax getting the Ship building contract things are going to start heating up on the east coast. Best of luck, love my country and am very fortunate to have such an awesome place to return to when the time comes.

Hi It is PO Box 92 FC (which stands for flight centre) and then their personal box number. Each person has a separate box number. You could try to send it in her husbands name and hope he gets it that way.

HI Scotchanddiet My son is involved in 2nd Dubai Cubs and really enjoys it. If you are looking for Boy Scouts of America there is a pack at American School of Dubai. I am not sure how difficult it may be to get into but worth giving the school a call to find out more.

I am an east coast girl at heart but lived in Winnipeg for 5 years, both of my children were born there. I too had no interest in living there and knew very little about it before moving there. It was a bit tough before having kids, though I think moving a lot of places can be. I made some incredible friends once I had my children some of those friendships are still very strong 7 years later. It is a great place for families, lots of out door stuff to do. Very close to great cottage/camping country and some lovely lakes. It is really cold in the winter but it is usually sunny too. So at least when you look outside the sun is shining and it isn't over cast and grey. You can layer up and be fine where as living on the coast it can be very damp and hard to keep the cold out. At the end of the day any place you live is what you make it! I arrived in Winnipeg in December and it was -50 C with the windchill and seriously wondered what had I gotten myself into. Once I got settled in I really enjoyed my time there. When looking for a place to live I would look at the south end of the city in the St Vital area. Lots of families and new developments there. Good luck HTH

Hi CCDXB Sadly and coincidently I am in the exact same situation. One of my very close friends from home husband is in palliative care due to a brain tumour. I know exactly how you feel, it is tough being over here and not being hands on. I was lucky to be home recently and had a visit with her. We talked for a long time about things not involving her husband and I think she appreciated the focus being on something else for a bit. Before coming back here I sent her some flowers, just something to let her know I was thinking of her and to 'brighten' her day. She really appreciated it. Maybe you can send her something similar. Something just for her, not her husband. I truly wish I could do more but that will have to wait until summer. xx

lcoolie The school at Silicon Oasis is a ways off of being done, still a construction site. I don't think your husband will get to see too much. It may be ready by Sept if not they will probably still open but the children will go to another GEMS school until this one is ready. HTH

The Spinneys at Cedre Villa centre is supposed to open the 23rd or 26th, but you know how that works around here! It was supposed to open in January then February 14th, hopefully soon. I don't think the one at Semmer villas will close, I hope it doesn't at least.

Check with Dubai Mall. We took the kids to see a movie and on our way out there were a whole bunch of strollers outside one of the theatres. I couldn't figure out why at the time but now it would make sense that they were having a Mother and Baby Screening.

Sillylilly That sucks! Unfortunately your friend has been caught in the beginning stages of this all in which no one really knows what is going on. Can she bank her BA ticket for another time ie somewhere else in Europe and rebook with Emirates here? SQ in this case with all the 'politics' involved I think with the friend having a Canadian passport she will be required to follow the rules for Canadians regardless of being a resident of the UK. Hope you get some better answers and your friend gets it sorted.

Apparently if she flies Emirates they will do it on line and it is A LOT cheaper. If not she may actually have to contact the Embassy in Ottawa and go from there. Sorry, hope that helps

Hi Hunts You might get your mom to look into that further as I have a friend with a parent in the same situation and if I remember our conversation properly they can't use their UK passport to get around this as they are residents of Canada not the UK. Only mentioning this as I would hate for it all to got pear shape for your mom when she gets to the airport trying to get here.

Hey Borncofused I think it would be a lovely idea to send something to help distract him. In my 'old' life I worked with kids with cancer and a teenage boy would greatly benefit from distraction. He isn't going to be feeling too hot for the first bit and maybe longer depending on what type of Leukaemia his diagnosed with. Can you find out if he has an Ipod/MP3 player and maybe get him a gift certificate to download new stuff for it? Most hospitals these days have internet access for the kids and the last unit I worked on actually had laptops for the kids to share, so may not be that hard for him to be able to do when feeling well. Or see if he has a PSP, or whatever he may have, and get him some new games for it. If he is already a reader books/magazines would be good but if he isn't I don't imagine at the beginning he will be that interested as time goes on and he isn't feeling as awful from treatment these would be good distractions from time spent in hospital or even for frequent clinic visits. We had one teenage boy that was into guitar and was always loosing guitar pics and enjoyed working on new music when he was up to it. So, if he was into something like that a supply of pics and maybe see if you can find some new sheet music he is into. Hope that helps, it isn't easy but I think it is very thoughtful of you.
