Flavours on 2 in Rotana Tower is, I think, one of the best, but no outside seating. Around 200 for two people if you use a voucher from the Fine Dining book. Good atmosphere, but if you go on a Thursday, booking is essential. Village Terrace at the Meridian Village near the airport is good, with live cooking stations and about 220 each, all inclusive. Lovely outdoor setting with a band playing in the background. DD went to Channels recently and vowed never to go back!! Food was terrible and the red wine undrinkable. Went to Mistral a few weeks ago and wasn't overly impressed, but good value with a voucher. edited by amelia on 25/03/2013 I went to the Meridian Village 2 weeks ago and would never go back again The service was appalling and at one point they were serving soft drinks without any alcohol in to save time! . We managed to get 3 drinks in the hours we had paid for, food was terrible and the meat was full of fat. I have been going there for years but will not again

I am looking for a very professional top top quality home service massage for a man. He prefers a woman, no funny business - just a very good massage. Can anyone recommend someone? Thank you. I did not think women were supposed to massage men here? I may be wrong

Great this is what we thought, our contract doesn't expire until June which is when we were expecting to receive 12 months notice. But I suspect he thinks that he has given us notice now so will either not be expecting to renew in June or for us to move out 12 months from now... Nope if you contract does not state Non Renewable then he has to give it to you in writing once your current contract expires. This is the law and if he does not agree you can pay your cheques and get your contract at the rental committee :-) Thats right, i am assuming he emailed you right? Then just email him back, saying Dear xx, thank you for your email, but i have checked with Rent Committee (not RERA), one needs 12 month notice from June etc, so we will be vacating in June 2014. I imagine he will not be happy lol

its 12 months notice to vacate, which is probably when you signed the contact last probably? If the contract does not say Non Renewable then they have to give you 12 months notice by law at the end of the contract. They cannot just ask you to leave and 9 times out of 10 then dont want to live in it or sell it they just want more cash! By law they cannot kick you out before the above They have to write you a letter and have it notarised as per the law!

Hi Mrs Evans, Don't be anxious! You will love Dubai! I moved here in the height of summer in fact I arrived 19th June almost 5 years ago :) Yes the heat is very intense (even at night time) and the sea is like a bath, but like others say, you stay indoors, go to malls, do things early morning / late evenings, watch movies etc. It's not deserted - the days of all the wives and children going "home" for 2 months I think are over, but it is quieter. Ramadan is a very special time and if you embrace it, you will really enjoy the spirit of it and feel like you are in the Middle East. Enjoy! I arrived in July 2006 and remember the plane door opening and the heat wooshing in! It was like stepping into an oven! I am still here though :-)

Hi again! Thank you for clarifying. I thought as much but wanted to make sure. Although I'm not sure what a semi-detached property is? From what just the name alone it sounds like a townhouse, are they not the same thing? My husband will be working in/near Dubai International Financial Centre. Would Mirdif or The Springs or any of the other areas mentioned be ideal for commuting? I would prefer the school to be nearer to our home. I will probably be doing the school runs (at least in the afternoons). I live near the Springs and work in DIFC it takes me from the Greens to DIFC 17 mins Mirdif to DIFC 20 mins

From my understanding, the LL has to give you 12 months notice and your 1 year starts at the end of the present contract. However, you need to check if you signed a non-reneal contract first Have a look on your current contract, if it says non renewable then you cannot If it doesn't state anything then the above is correct. Most contracts are the standard ones which can be renewed The letter to move out also has to be notarised. No emails etc

Hi we have just confirmed our moving date to move to Dubai from Australia. My husband has already been living out there for the past 4 months but the move is very close to Ramadan (arrival 18th June). He will have sorted out our place to live but I'm quite anxious about how I will cope with the impending heat and also with the mass exodus that seems to happen about this time of year together with a house move. Is it really that unbearable? Can I expect the place to be deserted? Do shops open? I know you ladies will be able to put my mind at rest. Thanks :-) Shops remain open ( malls till midnight) and no the place is not deserted. Where did you hear this ? It is business as usual although the roads can be busier at peak times due to people finishing work earlier I am from the UK and can bear the heat, we do not tend to wander around outside in the midday heat. Everywhere has aircon you will be fine

This includes many foods sold here where it is not mentioned in the ingredients and cosmetics Toothpaste, capsules for medication the list is huge. I remember it was a question on QI

Quite often a villa is used to refer to a stand-alone or semi-detached property and a townhouse is used to refer to a terraced property. I know the houses in Springs are terraced/townhouses, but not sure about the properties in Mirdiff? Are some of them detached or semi-detached? As well as Jumeirah Village Triangle, Jumeirah Circle and Victory Heights might also be possibilities for the OP? Mirdif can be detached or semi detached or townhouses same for VH and JVT

Being in a Muslim country one would think one is safe (we are also Muslim) .....my brother bought a foot thingy (dont ask what its actually is as it is in Japanese) from Daiso - the Japanese store with lots of gadget-y things. When we got home we saw that the material to manufacture the item was *** SKIN! ....for most expats that is not a big deal but for us a BIG issue......so now we have been ripped out of our comfort zone of being able to walk into a store here and buy items without prejudice..... Phone the DED and complain

If you have an Entertainer Fine Dining book and have registered it on their site, there is a BOGOF voucher for Beachcombers weekend brunch. It's only valid until 31st March though. Cost is 395 and is a 'deluxe brunch inclusive of sparkling, wine, selected bottled lagers, alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, juices and tea/coffee'. There is children's entertainment which sounds very good. There is also a similar voucher for Latitude and I know they are accepting vouchers this Friday as I have a table booked. Don't know about Saturday but a 'phone call would confirm. The telephone number quoted on the voucher is as has been said. Thanks I will call later :-)

very much luck of the draw here - we had a brilliant one, until he wanted to sell !! We didn't want to buy so had no choice but to move..he is supposed to give 12 months notice in writing (which we didn't get) so you don't get "thrown on the street" unexpectedly !! Also, they're not supposed to increase the rent the first year - although ours did and our company, who pay most of our rent, didn't argue...we would have expected the relo person at work to know tenancy law but apparently she didn't !! They can increase the rent (IF) the rental calculator stipulates this The old not increasing within 1-2 yearrs no longer applies in the rental laws I wish it was all common knowledge to all LL so they cannot rip people off although back home i only have to give my tenants 6 months notice to leave

In reading through these boards, I've seen some people have had issues with rent being increased or not having the option to renew their lease for another year due to various reasons. I'm assuming that if a landlord chooses not to renew your lease that a) this is an independent deal and he prb wants to sale, and b) you are not living in a compound. Now note I said 'assume'. If you are living in a compound, is this run by a managment company solely and that there are no independent landlords? I just need some clarification because the last thing I want to deal with it is having to move after 2 years because I'm getting kicked out. Moving is no fun and once we move there, I have no intention of moving again UNLESS we decide to. The LL can only move in with 1 years notice in writing I have only ever had independant LL's and they have been from a variety of countries Perhaps i have been lucky as they have never tried to raise my rent or mess me around I have heard that management companies can still mess you around. I suppose it is luck of the draw

I understand your friend has several medical issues but you state an ongoing condition, you may get a better result if you state what ongoing issue and we may be able to help you in the right direction. Most clinics have good general all round doctors we use Arabian Ranches and Dubai Mall clinic whom she could go to then be referred to a specific doctor for a specific condition? We have had no issues with either clinic and they have been superb treating our family. Her issues are she has very low blood pressure and hypoglycemia attacks which have caused her to have numerous collapses and even sustained a fractured skull with the last incident. I think she needs someone who can manage the whole issue rather than bits and pieces. One doctor prescribes something which the next one then stops, she needs some good medical help There is a new practice here called something like "The White House" it was in 7 days European GP's Sorry i do not have the numbers.

Im new, it's the first time I renew a contract. I dont know the procedure. He told me to do that. to give him the cheques and he will make the new contract for next day. He never talked about incrising the price. So i thought he will keep it. anyway i complaint and he said that he s coming to talk to me. I belive he was waiting me to no say nothing and pay. I thought he was taking that comission to not increse the price. Thats why i didnt complain. By the way I went few weeks ago to the agent, he wasnt there and they told me ahh u still have time to renew dont worry abt... He can only increase by 5% if your place on the rental calculater has incresed by 25% You need to check this first! He has to give 12 months notarised agreement in writing to move in LL can not make up what they want. Any doubt call the rent committee

Thank you all so much for your replies! We have decided that India is not the place for us, before I start a debate (not my intention) we do not feel that it will be the family holiday we could relax on, so have booked elsewhere. I am sure India is a fantastic place and lots to see, however just not the place for us at the present time. Of course its not the place for you!!! Seems like you know very little of India, so please don't stress yourself and do go to a 'safe' enough place. Anyways, wondered what kind of a post this was, in the first place! The OP has the right to ask!!!!

Many employers here are flexible in allowing parents to do school runs during or instead of their lunch breaks. It just depends on where you work and what you do as to how much flexibility you might be able to negotiate. if this is the case, i find it encouraging, i don't know ANY employers who allow people to do this. (which is a shame) Only one of mine do. ( Out of 60)

It is a very grey area. Yes it is illegal however if every BF and GF that vacationed in Dubai were checked then tourism trade would decline rapidly. The only thing i could suggest is that you don't do anything here that would warrant a run in with the police Thanks for replying. What would warrant a run in with the police? Holding hands? Being seen walking out of a room together? We aren't a couple that is into Public Displays of Affection, but we do hold hands. So it's not like we'll be walking around the malls/restaurants while being all over each other. No PDA's and as i said before alot of people travel here who are not married.

Hi ladies, I've posted this question on another forum, but it was all men who replied and I would really love a woman's outlook. I was born in Dubai before the city had that big boom, but moved back to the UK when I was a kid. So I don't remember much of the laws and legalities. I'm planning on going on holiday with the Boyfriend next year in Dubai, but then we had second thoughts when we saw that it was even illegal to co-habit in a hotel together? Would greatly appreciate it if someone could give me some clarity on this. And any other tips would be highly welcome! Many thanks (: It is a very grey area. Short answer: no. Women employed as nannies/maids/babysitters in the UAE are from a select group of nations eg Philippines, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, India etc whether they are full-time/live-in or part-time helpers. Your best bet is to hit the ground and ask for recommendations from people as to an agency you might utilise OR make friends with expats who might have teenagers who are after some extra work after school/in holidays. Sorry. Rules are tight here. PS. I recall there is or was a 'fairygodmother group' that was set up by a group of helpful ladies in 2011? 2012? to help out with occasional babysitting, but I'm not sure of the status of that group as of now. Basically, it was a bunch of mostly western women who would volunteer to help out/babysit when a mum needed a break etc ... but it wasn't a paid service; just a way to give busy mums a break. Might be worth seeing if the Facebook group set up is still in operation. Good luck. :) And if you do utilise a teenager etc keep it quiet as it is acutally illegal to employ and pay someone for these services unless you sponsor them

Sorry I cannot accept any excuses like people are too stupid and do not understand the iguana is harmless. I am sick to death of people wanting a nanny state that gives them absolute guidelines on how to breathe. We were in the desert recently and a camel came and tried to steal our picnic. It were coming right at us. The children were terrified, the camel were huge. We waved our arms and made a lot of noise and it moved away. Then it came back with five of it's camel friends so we left. We didn't stone them, attack them, torture them, murder them. We accepted that we are guests in their home and we moved. It's simple. We also took our trash with us, to keep the desert clean and ensure the camels didn't eat something that could make them sick. Something some people here seem incapable of doing. There were no signs saying 'Camels are here and they are harmless' and I am quietly confident camels are not anywhere near as harmless as an iguana. I imagine one could do you a nasty injury if it wanted to. If I was in a park and I saw a lion I would not throw rocks at it. I would try and move away, far far away. If I saw a snake I would move away. If I see something I am afraid of I stay away from it I certainly don't try and aggravate it so it might attack me. I bet if it was a lion these kids wouldn't have thrown stones at it, although I am kind of hoping they do throw stones at a lion next time and it's their disembowelled bodies instead. The mentality of someone that sees an animal, any animal, and ATTACKS IT is something completely different. Perhaps if the animal cornered them but the fact is several witnesses saw the iguana in a tree. I do not believe for ONE SECOND these kids were afraid of the iguana. They were just EVIL it is simple. EVIL NASTY KIDS and they should be lynched. As for the security guard he worked nearby, he must have seen the iguana dozens of times before why was he suddenly so afraid that he felt the need to mindlessly torture and kill it? Furthermore they were asked to stop by a young girl, she clearly wasn't afraid, if this was such a fear based thing then why did they not question why she was not afraid of it and wanted to protect it. Finally it was trying to escape, if you were threatened by an animal and then it tried to run away the most sensible thing would be to let it go. Anyone with two brain cells knows any animal is more likely to defend itself when threatened so why chase an animal you are afraid of? But thank you to anyone who has given these kids a valid excuse so they can witter to the police 'oh I was scared' and then nothing will happen to them. I call ******** but now they have an excuse so they can get away with it and do it to someone's cat or dog next time. Or maybe we'll find a toddler tortured and beaten to death with an iron bar and dumped on Dubai Metro rail tracks? edited by RuthM on 24/03/2013 I agree and although it is a public park Dubai is also a desert and that is where certain animals live!!!!
