Oh one of my favourite SingStar and Karaoke songs ;). Was it really 30 years ago? Wow, I remember watching them win this, or a repeat of it anyway. I feel incredibly old now!

Fabulous! I knew it had to be easy. Bit like paying your Salik by mobile- I knew it was easy but just never got around to registering it and once I did I have never looked back. Thanks Ms B ;)

I can only think of a handful of friends that have their school fees paid by the company. Honestly most people I know pay the fees out of their own pockets. I don't think the school fees are that insane here TBH. In Australia, whilst there are 'free' or government schools, the tax rates for higher income earners are astronimical (up to 47% on a sliding scale) so are not technically free at all but rather tax payer funded. That said, we pay in the 35-38K region for our school here in DXB- reasonable considering the teacher-child ratio, resources (although I do feel we should have better resources but that's a whole new thread!) and overall outcomes. I would love to send our kids to some of the well resourced American schools but at double the tuition fees it wouldn't be feasible nor necessary for us to do so. For the record, the kids school in Australia where they are enrolled for the future is approx 65K per year (think I converted that right!) so paying 35-38K here isn't to much of a stretch at this stage.

There is anew place that just opened at JBRat the bottom of Sadaf 8 called Beyond Beauty that uses Dermalogica products. I can't personally recommend the facials as I've only had pedicures/manicures there. The staff are all lovely and are obviously well looked after (the girl doing my nails last time offered that info to me saying they were all very happy working for the owner) if that is something you go for. Nice clean place with reasonable prices.

MrsL I have used the website Vrbo.com quite a bit for villas, apartments, condos around the world with excellent success. I'm not sure of the offering of catered villas bur I am sure they exist. I did know of one place in Tuscany that a friend stayed at that was more of a b and b style villa ( ie the owners lived on site). I have it saved on my bookmarks on another computer so can dig it out for you when I remember.

No, bouganvillia is not poisonous as far as I know. Growing up we had a yard full of it and the neighbourhood kids and I were always covered in scratches. Perhaps if you are feeling unwell, an antihistamine like Phenergan might help? Will also put you at ease a little.

I'm taking wog to mean Greek and am suitably offended ;) No no- please don't be! It is indeed a term of endearment. Possibly a few generations ago it might not have been but by younger Australians it is indeed a compliment. :D

A typical Aussie wog :) [i'>*PC people wog, when used with Aussie, is not a derogagtory term it is an endearment*[/i'> Exactly! Think that's why I love him. Wogs are always passionate about their food. Some of the best food can be found in Melbourne for a reason.

I know a family that has had several maids through them. One didn't work out so well and the maid actually asked to leave. She was then placed with another family in Dubai and is very happy there (I keep in touch with her... Although the family I know does most certainly not!) The next maid they got from explorer has been with thrum since then with no issues. From what I understand, you pay 2200 aed to the agency, they pay the maid 750 aed and the agency pays fir the visa, medical, flights etc. Gosh. What a shame that the maid only gets 750. :( I know! I could never do it. I would feel absolutely terrible knowing that was all she was getting.

I use them all for different things of course: iPhone - personal phone Blackberry- work phone iPod- for music and podcasts Kindle - as an ereader iPad - as my travel computer, in front of the tv computer, in bed computer Laptops- for work Netbook- for things I can't do on iPad like downloading tv shows, excel spreadsheets etc.

Putting alcohol in a Coke can or whatever is a common teenage thing the world over. I don't know how anyone could be shocked over this. We put vodka in shampoo bottles at school camp in my day. I can still recall that soapy alcoholic taste if I close my eyes and try hard enough ;) ;). Ah we were such good catholic school girls !

B3gger the grammatical errors, I'd be more concerned about the content of the letter! Which school allegedly has grade 8 students drinking alcohol at school!? which do you think? ;) Getting quite a REPutation isn't it. ;) On that note, time for a scotch...

I finished W3R3 last night. I am going to skip the rest day and go to W4R1 tonight as I have a pretty boozy weekend planned and am thinking the last thing I will want to do is run hungover. Think the run increases to 6 minutes continuously tonight- ekk!

Oh that gives me hope Frannie. Well done on the continuous running. Tonight I finished week 3' run 2 and was fine. Again I lacked motivation to get started but once I was dressed and the iPod turned on I was fine. I am getting frustrated that three weeks in and combined with a good diet I am not losing weight on the scales. Am hoping that I am losing centre metres instead. Here's hoping anyway!

Yay! A C25k thread! I just did week 3, run 1 tonight. So far so good and I am determined to get through it. I will be away for a week right in the middle of the program so I am trying to think of stratgies to not abandon the progr am mid way through. Today was the first day doing the 3 min run and whilst the first one was pretty hard, I soon fell into the groove and was so glad that I decided to get up off the couch (literally) and hit the treadmill before dinner. I am combining this with watching what I eat using Calorie King. My youngest baby is 2 years old now- time to stop blaming pregnancy weight for the extra kilos I am carrying around!

well, I didn't see the original post, but you know what, if I'd been there, I would have offered some help... and maybe even ushered her off for a coffee afterwards. This is from someone whose DD's last major public tantrum drew spectators and when, through hyperventilating screams, she indicated that she was then going to wet herself in the middle of the passageway, saw me, with 13kg of DS unceremoniously rugby-balled under one arm, drag DD along to the toilets (she refused to walk), again screaming to the extent that a security guard loitered outside, presumably to make sure that I wasn't actually killing her. Out of all the staring bystanders, NOT ONE offered to help out, not even to hold DS's hand when he was trying to run away. I can tell you right now, that if any one of them had muttered that I was a bad mum at that point, I would have told them that they can deal with it and gladly walked off. If any of you out there have a tantrumming child in a public place and a brunette 30-something gives you a sympathetic smile... it's me. GREAT post :)

Emirates tickets are not transferable. So therefore you need to either put ticket in for the refund (minimal) or cut your losses. This ticket cannot be sold and used by someone else.

Positives: Excellent committed teachers Great community feel Small class sizes (15 approximate per class ) Reasonable fees Approachable principal Outstanding PE teachers Opportunity for children to shine in their own way - dance, public speaking at weekly assembly etc Cons Lack of finished facilities such as pool, auditorium, cafeteria So there is what I think most parents of Star will tell you.

They cut the same scar for my second c-sec. I think they cut it slightly 'longer' than the original though. Definitely agree with the others that subsequent Caesars are much easier and less painful. Good luck with your delivery!

Wow- none of you guys better move to Australia then! Groceries here are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP compared to the capital cities there. Example of Brisbane prices at local supermarket: Diet coke bottle 12 aed Loaf of bakery bread 14 aed Chicken breasts 40aed per kilo Nappies 120aed Clothes are much cheaper here, petrol is much cheaper, cars are cheaper, services are cheaper. You won't find too many Aussies complaining about coat of living here (other than school fees and rent!)

I have a rather horrible story about this so don't read on if this is likely to upset you. I know a woman in my home city, well actually in the country outside my city, that had this. Her children were always having something dramatic or another. She also used to go onto Long Term Trying to Conceive forums and 'invent' conditions she had, miscarriages etc. Harmless enough. Then one day something truly horrendous happened. Her 2 year old drowned in their backyard pool. Tragic right? Yes... Absolutley horrible. BUT the police actually suspected the mother of doing it and she was held for many hours for questioning. She wasn't formally charged in the end but everyone who knew her and her delight in making up these illnesses for both herself and her daughters suspected something amiss. She is now getting her attention through the media as she has set up a foundation in the name of her daughter. She is always finding out stories of people who have tragically lost their children and calling them out of the blue to offer 'support'. She is thriving on the attention she gains through this as of ourselves her story comes out again. Horrible horrible stuff. edited by Scotchanddiet on 15/03/2011
