At risk of asking what could be the dumbest question ever on this forum... Can anybody tell me where I can buy sand from?? Obviously we live in the desert, and I once did park my car at the side of the road and take some sand for a school project, but it's full of dirt and rocks, etc. I want clean sand (that you buy for a children's sand pits) for a game that I am organising at my daughter's school fair, so I would prefer to buy some. I presume that the toy shops may sell it, but it would be helpful if somebody could specifically tell me where to go so that I don't go on a wild goose chase tonight.

I'm on Day 4 of Focus T25 and absolutely loving that it's 25 minutes. Yesterday had a whole bunch of floor work and push ups, and I realised that I'm back down to not being able to do more than 2 push ups in a row :-( I also get what you mean about moves needing practice - lol some of them need proper coordination because he combines upper body and lower body to achieve optimum results. I'm very uncoordinated! What I find amazing is that even though it's been ten months since I stopped Insanity, I have lost some of the strength but a lot of it is still there! I also feel like my muscles will strengthen again very quickly this time. Did you do Alpha, Beta and Gamma, or only Alpha and Beta? I can't believe your doing Insanity again! So brave of you...I think I have decided never again. My neck suffered a lot from the high impact of Insanity so I don't want to cause anymore damage there, and quite frankly it was too hard lol. Good luck to you - I would love to hear how you find it second time around.

HI TA, I think its natural to be concerned about how finances are going to work out as it's difficult to accept money from your husband for the first time - even though it is your husband so you would think that it is easy! I think it is because you are used to having your own income. I work and we have separate accounts which was my husband's choice as he felt I should not be spending my money on the house/kids because he is the breadwinner. I have a supplementary credit card to his which he pays for and I charge pretty much everything to that. However, as janatks does, I prefer to pay for my own luxuries myself. Finances have never really been an issue in our house, but thats because neither of us question each other on what we spend. I think the main thing is to ensure that you are both generous and trusting with your money.

Safest way is to use a carrier like Aramex, Fedex or DHL. DHL has a desk at Dubai Mall, LGF opp Waitrose. At least there is a tracking facility you will not have from the Emirates Post. There is a tracking facility with Emirates Post, depending on which service you use. Last Saturday I sent a parcel to the UK weighing 6kg - Aramex quoted me around 1,000 Dhs to send it, Emirates Post charged me 300 Dhs, so significantly cheaper! It took 4 days to arrive.

I found out recently that most of the chicken here is frozen then defrosted on the shelf, we buy it and then stick it in the freezer! Meat once defrosted should NOT be frozen again, but there is NO warning on any of the packaging - be it the expensive UK stuff or the oman chicken Really shocked we aren't sick more often with food poisoning! I buy fresh chicken breasts. are those also defrosted? The ones that say fresh are fresh - typically the local Arabic brand names are fresh. I've also fresh also equates to very small chickens! Once I remove the bones and skins from chicken thighs I'm left with what seems like 100 grams of chicken from a half kg pack. Spinneys and Waitrose own brand chicken is all defrosted. If you turn the packs over, you will uually find somewhere that it says "thawed" - you have to search for it though. I hate dealing with chicken, it disgusts me for some reason, much prefer meat!

I certainly wouldn't be happy if this is what a teacher in teaching. Whilst it might be grammatically correct, no one actually speaks that way. There is a difference tho between learning the "correct" grammar and usage of words, and colloquial English. When I studied Spanish, we learned the formal way of speaking and correct use of difficult words, but the slang Spanish I learned while living there was completely different. I honestly don't even think you'd find people in a 'cluster' in formal English. It just doesn't make sense. Cluster is typically used for objects, certainly not people. edited by FairyDust on 27/01/2014 Dictionary.com disagrees, this is their definition for cluster: 1. a number of things of the same kind, growing or held together; a bunch: a cluster of grapes. 2. a group of things or persons close together: There was a cluster of tourists at the gate. 3. U.S. Army. a small metal design placed on a ribbon representing an awarded medal to indicate that the same medal has been awarded again: oak-leaf cluster. 4. Phonetics . a succession of two or more contiguous consonants in an utterance, as the str- cluster of strap. 5. Astronomy . a group of neighboring stars, held together by mutual gravitation, that have essentially the same age and composition and thus supposedly a common origin. Compare globular cluster, open cluster, stellar association. verb (used with object) 6. to gather into a cluster or clusters. 7. to furnish or cover with clusters. verb (used without object) 8. to form a cluster or clusters: The people clustered around to watch. Points 2 and 8 would both fit with what the OP originally suggested as sentences. Although I do agree with the majority in that "cluster" would not be my choice word. Haha I think it's the fact that having lived in Dubai when somebody mentions a cluster I automatically assume they're talking about villas!

There's the Hamra Fort Hotel, Hamra Village and the Hamra Palace as well. They are all on the same complex. The Hamra Fort is the most expensive I believe, the Village is cheaper but I think it was all renovated a couple of years ago and the rooms are all junior suites. I stayed at the Palace once and we got a HUGE apartment...I think they were supposed to be apartments and then became a hotel at the last minute. The Village doesn't have beach access but you can use the buggy to use the beach at Hamra Fort.

Some of these names are verry old...and fairouz is a boy's name... so is Malek and Zain....the female version for Malek would be Malaika... a lot of female names end with "a" or "ah", its just an arabic thing...it makes the name more suitable for a female and not male...DD's name is Esra( pronounced Isra in arabic).. with a more turkish spelling... other names would be... Lyla, Zara, Zoya, Hania, Romaisa, Irsa lots more on the internet Fairooz is a female name, think of the famous singer. Zain is interchangeable, nd can be for a boy or girl, as is Noor and a few other names. I think the name that Norak is referring to is Malak - that's a girls name.

Naiyyar now that you have asked the question, you actually made me think that I have slightly different methods of making the yghurt sauce depending on what I am cooking. Firstly to answer your question, you use yoghurt sauce for shish barak (which is like pasta stuffed with meat and served in yoghurt sauce), kibbeh labaniyeh (which is a type of kibbeh that is served in yoghurt sauce), any type of fatteh (which are basically bread covered in yoghurt, and then something such as chicken, hommus, meat, aubergines). When I make yoghurt sauce for fatteh I actually only add tahina, garlic and salt. For me the key is to make sure you continuously stir with a hand whisk on a lowish heat, that's what stops the yoghurt from splitting.

The way i make it is as follows: Put 1kg of yoghurt in a saucepan and add add 1tsp of cornflour and 1 egg. You can choose without the egg and put more cornflour, which is what some people do, but honestly you can't even taste the egg. Put it all in a saucepan and then continuously stir with a hand whisk until it becomes the thickness that you want. My understanding is that the reason why it splits is when you don't continously stir. It's never split with me so far :D

I love Demetrios dresses...haha but I'm bias cuz that's where my dress was from! There is a Demetrios shop in Diera. It's a bit of a random location for the shop, but it's in a mall called Dubai Shopping Centre...it's a very small, old mall which is across the road from Diera City Centre. They definitely have dresses that suit your budget, here is the link for you to see the collections, but bear in mind that the shop doesn't have all of the dresses but they can order for you if you see something that you like in the catalogues. http://www.demetriosbride.com/

Just thought I would point out that the vouchers for Yas Waterworld are only in the book, not the app, not sure which one you are intending to get. In terms of Kidzania, I read on The Entertainer's facebook page somewhere that they had orginially reached a deal with Kidzania but it fell through at the last minute which is why they are listed in the index but there is no actual voucher. Somebody posted your same frustration on ther fb page. It's a shame as I would have loved Kidzania!

I have curly hair and so do my kids, although none of us have extremely curly hair. Honestly the best thing I find is brushing our hair whilst in the shower with conditioner on. You can buy conditioner for children which is mild, I know some will object to conditioner on children, but I have seen my children cry their eyes out when I try to undo knots from their hair without it. You will find brushing her hair whilst she has conditioner on is so much easier and the brush will just glide through. Hope this helps!

You can share your login details with as many people as you like, so it's basically a trust thing because people can then access all of your vouchers. The accounts are synchronised so that any voucher used goes from all people that have access to the account. Ginnee search for "Entertainer" in the App Store. You need to put your credit card details, it doesn't go from your apple account. Bad news is today is the first day that the app works and neither me nor my friends can connect so not happy!

I don't think there is an English name for Mulukhiyya, but it is basically Corchorus leaves. Here is the Wikipedia link for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulukhiyah Haha the Wikipedia link makes it sound horrible! I think it's an acquired taste, but it also depends on who is cooking it for you as it ends up tasting very different depending on the country (plus mine looks different from the photos!). You can buy it in most supermarkets and its just called Mulukhiyya, but the spelling will vary. DUTAC's ticketing system is not only antiquated, but they do not allow children under three in - full stop! Not even for children's productions. The reason sprouted varied from disturbing customers to fire evacuations problems and insurance worries. Ridiculous. Never again and I always warn all my friends who are considering going with children. We live far from MOE and arrived only to find that we were not allowed in. I had some very disappointed older children, but couldn't let them in on their own :(, as I had to stay outside with the younger ones. I was able to take my two and a half year old in. In fact when I went to book the tickets a few days before the show, I told them my daughter is two and a half and pointed out that the sign says no children under three, the guy on the ticketing desk said that they allow children over 2 not 3 and the sign was incorrect. I trusted his word basically and went ahead and booked the tickets. On the night of the show I didn't think twice about it and my daughter walked in with us, no questions asked! We loved the panto, both adults and children! Lolacat I think Snow White is on until the 30th or 31st. Theatre was half full for Thursday evening's show so I'm sure there are tickets still available, probably best to ring DUCTAC.

I went to both on my honeymoon, so without kids, so I can't comment on that part of it. We preferred Penang and actually found Langkawi quite boring, although the hotels in Langkawi are much nicer than Penang. Basically, Penang is a much bigger island with places to explore and things to do outside of the hotel. Langkawi is one of those, stay in and enjoy the hotel type of places. If you are looking for a purely beach holiday then I would say Langkawi, but if you want to have a bit of a town to explore, night markets to walk through, etc, then go with Penang. The reason why we didn't enjoy Langkawi as much is because we like to explore cities, and so Penang suited us more. I do agree with RuthM though, in that the greenery and and wildlife in Langkawi is nicer. That's my 2 cents on it, I'm sure others will have different opinions!

Lol you didn't imagine it! Check your ticket, it should say 30kgs per traveller. I travelled with them in June of last year and was baffled about the bggage allowance because the ticket says 30 and the website says 20 so I called them to check, because I didn't want a disaster at the airport with them refusing my 30kgs! The lady on the phone confirmed that all flights booked in Dubai have a baggage allowance of 30kgs. In any case she said double check your ticket, the check-in desk will look at the baggage allowance on your ticket. If it says 30 then your good, if it says 20 then they may have changed their policies so I wouldn't risk it. I believe they are quite strict at the counter. Hope this helps!

I completely agree with Arch...I'm Syrian and personally I hate them all. The reality is that what we had before was much better than what we have now. At least the refugees are getting some aid. The people in Syria are getting nothing. I read in the newspaper that the Syrian government has finally allowed the UN to bring in aid relief with 11 planes going this week...how very kind of them... I have lots of relatives that still live in Aleppo and the city is in shambles, even though they are fortunate to live in some of the less affected areas of the city. Electricity is cut for 21-22 hours a day, water is cut for the same, food is so expensive it is ridiculous, there is no oil for heating, and the sound of bombs exploding is so common that they don't even hear them anymore. People are kidnapped for no clear reason with no explanation given on a regular basis with no idea who has even taken them. There is no work and no income. I honestly don't know how people are surviving. Those that have left are not happy either. Nobody particularly wants them in their country and trying to find work is a struggle. I know so many people that left to try and set up lives elsewhere and ended up going back as they managed to work their way through all of their savings. It's so sad, with absolutely no end in sight.

Personally I don't have an issue with being asked to pay advanced fees to secure a place at a school, if I am certain that I want the place at that school. Many people like to try and keep their options open if they are in the fortunate position of having more than one offer, but it just leaves another family fretting trying to find a placement. Yes we live in Dubai and there is always the chance that things will change and you are asked to leave suddenly, but I think schools are somewhat understanding in that circumstance. I think the schools have the right to ensure that they have correctly filled their placements as soon as possible, and the reality is that the best way to do that is to make people pay upfront. Plus for a parent it actually gives you peace of mind to know that your place is secured and ynothing can go wrong. However, I do find the 3.5k a bit odd, but some schools do run a debenture system. I also find it worrying that the school did not inform you at the time of registration that there was an upfront fee that needs to be paid. If you did know about it and continued with the registration then there would have been no surprises.

I have just received a message that all schools are off. Could this be true? I heard it from someone who does not speculate. Oh wow. Please find out... Could you please check the Al Bayan website? I would but I can't read Arabic. I just read the Al Bayan website it says that Sheikh Mohamed has ordered that all schools are closed tomorrow. I have to echo the people that say that their kids will be disappointed as National Day celebrations are planned. I also don't get why a holiday would be targeted at kids and not adults as well!! I have to agree. Why not give everyone a day off tomorrow? We have a massive day at work tomorrow, it'll be a right pain if a day off was suddenly announced... not exactly a good business decision (ironic considering the point of expo). I'd love to be a fly on the wall on the meetings at which these last-minute decrees are planned... What do working parents with no maid do? In fairness I have a million things to do myself at work tomorrow. I just don't understand the rationale, if the point is to celebrate then everyone should get the treatment. Small children don't even know what's going on but they would have benefited from going to school tomorrow and having a national day celebration and have the school talk to them about what the Expo means.

I downloaded the app but I haven't used it yet. My understanding on the way that it works is that you will have a complete list of all participating vendors and then get access to the vouchers in the same way that you do the book. When you want to redeem you will have a personal pin number which you have to put in and then the restaurant has to put in their pin number as well and you obtain the discount. It sounds very useful as there are many times that we go out and forget the books and so miss out on the vouchers. However, I think Yorky raises some great points about if you can share/swap vouchers, how do other family members use them, etc. Yorky can you let us know if you get some clarity from the MCC stall?

I'm not sure what cuisine you are looking for, but Karam Beirut offers a set menu which I think is inclusive of soft drinks and water. I'm not sure of the price, so you would have to call and check with them. Thanks SEY 83, I'm trying to find somewhere licensed - it's tricky as it's a broad group of ladies - some drink, some don't and I'm trying to avoid the hassles that go along with that! Cuisine doesn't matter at all. We just need a place conducive for a get together! It is licensed. According to Festival City's website there are four licensed restaurants: •Four licensed restaurants, including Hard Rock Cafe Dubai, Jamie’s Italian, Karam Beirut and Le Relais De L’Entrecote http://www.dubaifestivalcity.com/Dubai-Festival-Centre-4.aspx So hopefully that at least narrows it down for you! Best bet is to ring them and find out what set menus they can offer you. Just to add - these are the Festival City restaurants outside of the hotels - I presume the ones in the Intercon and Crown Plaza are all licensed as well. edited by SEY83 on 18/11/2013

You've probably already gone to your appointment by now, but for future reference (and not in Downtown) the American Hospital have what they call an Urgent Care clinic. It's basically a walk in clinic which runs from 10am to 10pm and deals with things like the flu, ear infections, throat infections, etc. There is always a GP and pediatirician on duty and i have been on numerous occasions and there has never been more than 4 patients in line before me.

I got a flyer through the door last night to say that there is a new nursery opening in Bay Avenue in January 2014 and accepting registrations from November 2013. I can't remember the specific details but I can try and post them up if you want once I get home. I also got a second flyer about a yoga studio opening in one of the podium villas as well.
