Regent do this, apparently it's quite normal there and I'm told legal, I guess it's how badly you want to secure a place thats effectively queue jumping the waitlist so you have to pay for the term before to hold. Have you tried other places to see if they have any genuine september places to offer you, there are lots of schools with places offered now and people either paying their deposits or not, and also I think a lot of the deposits are refundable up to a point, hence why the waitlist can sometimes move quickly. Good luck but I know the piece of mind you can get from knowing the school place is secured!

The ski club of great Britain website is really helpful for resort info and what the lift queues are like at peak times like around new year, worth a look. We've skied Andorra and had a great time in a resort that linked really well, but agree that you can get a lot of 'youngsters' there!!! Zermatt is a wonderful experience if you've never been. we go to the same place every year now with a big group of friends to la tania now at feb half term and its great as links fantastically into the 3 valleys, but that doesn't help if you're bored of France sorry!! Hope you find somewhere good!!
