I think a stair gate is a good idea but not to the extent he feels locked in. You need to show you mean business and not accept it. Explain to him before he goesnto bed that if he gets out of bed before wake up time you will keep putting him back... The hard part is doing it, but consistency pays off, he is testing the boundaries, so just keep putting hom back to bed, no talking, and repeat until he stays put. The first night may take a couple of hours, the second night, the same, but after three of four nights he will learn that it is a no-win situation. It will be hard, and you will want to give in, but don't! remember, no talking, consistency will pay off and you will be back to normal in no time. Good luck and remember to keep smiling inwardly to yourself and keep your cool! Your DH needs to support you 100% on this as well, otherwise younwill be back to square one.

What a timely thread! After nine years here I went to Satwa last week to get two dresses copied, it turned out to be a lot more expensive than just buying a dress... The fabric (linen) was over 300 dhs and then 250 for the tailor, each! I just hope they do a good job! I will report back next week....

I liked Step by Step but I think there are too many children in each class. I heard there was a boy there who was hitting other children and they actually asked him to leave, expelled from nursery! Actually two boys in the space of six months were expelled, I just think this kind of thing will happen if there are too many kids. My dd was there for a while but I took her out after she was "accused of inappropriate language" because she kept saying poo pooh and laughing!

Hiya, I think it depends on whether you have kids, I understand the jw has great kids facilities but it is remote, as often referenced in the trip advisor reviews. I have stayed at the Banyan Tree and loved it, it is in the Laguna resort. We actually only ate there once in the ten days we were there as we preferred to walk into bang Tao village and eat in the many grat restaurants and bars there instead of paying hotel prices and they had a lot more charm. Plus, there are quite a few hotels aroun all connected by the ferry system so you have lots of choices. I particularly liked the baby elephant who went swimming everynday next to either the dust or sheraton every afternoo plus there was a fantastic beach bar called mimi's kitchen where you could eat and drink all day for about 50dhs!

The Els club is good for a drink and the food is great, they have an ex Jumeirah chef there and they cook things for you if they aren't too busy. They are currently in the temporary clubhouse, so it isn't as lush as AR, but it will be FAB when the place opens later this fall. There is going to be a steakhouse there too, can't wait!

It is definitely legit, I know Annie crookes who is running the program. It is a pretty good university and they are offering a good variety of courses. Send her an email and ask to meet her, although you had better be quick, summer break starts this week and she may not be around, biput will be answering emails. Good luck! I teach psychology at another university but we don't offer masters programs yet.

I misread this thread and thought the shops mentioned, I.e. Boots and mother care in Dubai sell the gro clock so I have had a very frustrating day going from pillar to post, or rather small Boots to bigger Boots, small Motjercare in motor city to biggest mother care in Dubai Mall, only to return home and reread the thread to realize it was shops in the uk! Feel like a total idiot now! So if anyone else has a gro clock for sale, please advertise it I am desperate!

If you like salsa music and watching really good dancers strutting their stuff there is also Malecon at Dubai marine beach resort. You can also dance yourself of course, but I find it a bit intimidating! Jambase has both a dj and live music every night. edited by Snugs on 14/06/2011

Don't do it, you never know what is going to happen, what if you do leave and meet your fiancé in another GCC country to live and a few years down the line he wants to come back to Dubai? With so many vacations that schools have, you will have plenty of time to visit him and it is so cheap nowadays with fly Dubai and air Arabia. Not worth the risk and feelings of guilt.

Hiya, what villa are you looking at? We always felt safe, but if you prefer a small villa with security dhevatara residence would be perfect for you, also miskawan villas all have security... I don't think they will be that busy, if you want a recommendation tell them mark Siddorn from Dubai recommended the villas to you. He is my DH and is friends with the MD John Birt. HTH!!

Hiya, Jules it is best to keep the babysitting arrangements be teen you and the villa manager, no need to involve admin as they will charge officially. The girls in the villa won't charge by the hour, like I said, just work out a fair tip at the end. We hired the car locally, the villa manager has always arranged it and they deliver the car to you. GQ, there are different villas on the website, I think boutique and signature, have a look again and you will find them. Bop hut is my favorite over chewing, and there is shopping and LOADS of restaurants and bars. You definitely wouldn't need to go into chewing every day. Don't forget to negotiate and only pay for the number of bedrooms you are using! Good luck, let me know if you need anything!

sorry Jules, I didn't answer your questions! Tesco / Lotus is about five ams up the road and they have everything, there also a boots there as well as plenty other shops and restaurants. We always hire a car for the entire period we are there as it is easy to drive around and it is cheap as chips. All the villas are staffed so babysitting on tap! There is no set charge for that, you just leave a tip at the end. One time we went we had a university student who was our manageress and she was on summer break and we just arranged that she could use our laptop to go online every night while we were out, she loved it as she would normally have to go to an Internet cafe. You normally have about two or three fulltime staff living onsite so they are there for you as you want them. Our kids have been small small we normally went out every night after they were in bed. The staff are excellent and love kids. Keep us updated, I am sure Ashes and I and many others will have restaurant recommendations! If you are dealing with reservations, ask for Apple and tell her that Mark Siddorn referred you, he is very friendly with the MD John Birt!

Little explorers at MCC is the best! We took our two today. 3, and 4 and we were asked to come back in 90 minutes to fetch them! We didn't actually know what to do with ourselves for several minutes until we realized we could go for a rare uninterrupted lunch and a bit of shopping! The he kids were in a workshop so it wasn't unsupervised play and they loved it!

Hi Jules, I think I may have been the one who recommended villas in koh samui! Our last five holidays have been in koh samui renting villas from samui villas and homes. We have stayed in four different villas and all come fully staffed. I can't recommend them enough! The staff have all been wonderful and they all come with an option of a Thai chef, as well as all having on-site villa manageresses. The breakfasts are so lovely, all the fruit you can eat including full continental. You can a go the eggs and bacon route for additional charges (or we just went to telco up the road and bought stuff ourselves). The beauty of a villa is having a place to yourself with a kitchen, pool, living room and it works out much cheaper than a resort as they only charge you for the rooms you use. We have got to know the MD so if you want a referral you may get a discount, let ,e know! We have stayed at Ban Kinareee, which is literally like a rockstar house, not on the beach but breathtaking! Also stayed at Ban tamarind, just lovely and right in a little village with shops and restaurants a two minute drive to fisher mans village. Our favourupite place is dhevatara residence... You can walk into fisher mans village from there (past peace resort!) and lastly we also stayed at dhevatara cove, on the west coast, a bit far out of the way. When we were there last year we found a little childrens nursery who will take kids who are on holiday, although it is for expats. Our kids loved going there for a few days a week when it was too hot during the day. It is run by two British expats and they are just lovely! In wont write anymore, but if you want more information, let me know!

I live at VH and love it so I am probably biased, but my two cents are... The fact that the access road isn't finished and the pools are still under construction probably means you will get a better deal, come September when the roads will soo be open, and the pools finished you will sit back and be glad you moved here! Our bills are cheaper than my sisters were at AR and we have a pool with a chiller! I love all the greenery and walkways and there is talk of a carrefour express or similar grocery store in the development, next to the current little shop. The permanent clubhouse will eventually open, hopefully by October, so it will be a lovely, quieter place to live than AR. VH has 900 units, AR has over 6,000!, but like I said I am a little biased. I do love AR and it nice to be able to pop over there from time to time.

Thanks for all your replies! I will be a lot more careful in the future... Mind you we got married here 6 years ago and we had five no-shows at our reception! And we had to pay for them, they were all good friends, apart from two of them. One couple, who were really good friends, had a massive fight on the way to our reception and ultimately broke up, so I can sort of understand their excuse.... but the others... The problem is it is hard to hide your feelings in front of the guests who do come. Miss Pickle, nice comment, I don't have to add anything as the rest of the posters gave you short shrift!
