I had horrible teeth growing up , my front 4 were very large and protruding out so much I couldnt close my lips ! I've been going to Dr Bhatia since I was 9 years old and he did a brilliant job, though it was a long treatment of braces and retainers. He;s been practicing in Dubai for ages and is very established. He also doesnt charge as much as other dentists. He is in Central Polyclinic in Al Ghurair Hope you find the right treatment for your LO, I know how difficult it is growing up with teeth issues :(

That is the case and very annoying. I had no idea about this rule so when I left one of my previous jobs after 2 years, I was expecting gratuity based on my whole salary, instead I got about 40% of what I was expecting, it was very upsetting :( I later found out it's a common trick to reduce the gratuity, pretty mean I think.

Hi I also have flat feet and didnt want to dish out so much on custom ones. I purchased these from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Superfeet-Womens-Berry-Premium-Insoles/dp/B004PLMB98/ref=pd_sbs_shoe_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=1FB57BE2ZFRKQCDFHKM3 They were okay, and can be cut in the front to accomodate to all shoe shapes. You could try the green ones since they have high support and are for high shoes so should be fine for trainers. These berry ones I purchased have a medium arch but fit well into pumps. I still love the support my Birkenstocks give me. So I went to the one in Dubai Mall and they have insoles that are only for their clog type shoes and the salesman was a bit skeptical, but I use them for my skechers work pumps and they work great. They cost AED 100 make sure you take the shoes you will be putting them in along with you to fit them inside and try them, since the insoles are quite bulky you might need to wear a size bigger to make them fit. Good luck! edited by sourskittleashnut on 01/10/2014 edited by sourskittleashnut on 01/10/2014

@wickedangel_78 yes they said they need my passport copy and salary certificate which I have, and it'll take some days to process. I'm on prepaid right now with them so need to transfer to postpaid, the guy said it's quite straightforward but sales people will make it sound like that to make a sale! Going there in a bit to check it out and hopefully start the process @mannikat du also has an offer and they have iPhone 6 in stock as well (at Gitex anyways) http://www.du.ae/mobile/specialoffers/iphone-6-offer if you mean you already have an iPhone then I'm not sure how it works, sorry!

Hi ladies, I have lots of books, clothes and toys to donate including ELC whizz around garage (lights dont work), Leap Frog Learning table and a mini cooking set. Clothes are really nice from Gymboree worn only a few times. I'd rather donate them and help people than sell at Baby Bazaar. I would love to just give them to one charity, is there any place I can drop them to? Apparently Dubai Center for Special Needs accepts all of these to sell later at their Charity Shop so I might do that: http://www.dcsneeds.com/get-involved.php#tabs1 Any other suggestions? edited by sourskittleashnut on 01/10/2014

Hi ladies, I'm taking my 2 year old DD for cranial osteopathy; she's been a very fussy baby and had a slightly traumatic birth, and my husband and I both have scoliosis so I always feel like one of her shoulders looks higher than the other - could be paranoia but I'd like to get her checked. Dr Lauren at the Osteopathic Health Centre is on Maternity Leave until Jan! Any other recommendations? edited by sourskittleashnut on 25/09/2014

Where have the Kings threads gone from the schools board? There were 2 of them earlier, but both seem to have been deleted. They both had long (and very clearly spam) comments praising Kings so they got deleted, clearly a marketing gimmick

Yup they told me 1st October too but I'm checking their website every day like a crazy person ! I'm trying JPS and Wellington International because I've heard good things about them and they have more reasonable fees compared to the other schools. JESS and Kings were also my top choices but both have been full for ages now (I called when DD was 11 months and they were full!) It seems any new good school opening these days starts from 50,000+ for FS1 which is just too much for us (Kings Barsha, Nord Anglia). My Plan B's are GEMS Wellington Primary or Wellington DSO, both of which don't get full very fast so I'm not in a rush to give 500dhs to them . Or Horizon or Safa which are good and still in our budget. edited by sourskittleashnut on 22/09/2014

Hi, Just to update, some schools have started registration for 2015 such as Wellington DSO and Wellington primary. Still waiting on the others.. I've heard JPS and Wellington Int'l are very hard to secure a place now. Three of my friends had put their childrens names down for FS1 2014 in both schools and neither of them got a place at them! Not very encouraging *panic attack*

That's what I heard too :( 2 of my friends went there when we were in high school (this is 10 years ago) and they were not Emirati, they were sisters so perhaps their mom had been a teacher there... That's why I was wondering maybe they take a small percentage of non-Emirati students edited by sourskittleashnut on 17/09/2014

I just want to add that my siblings and I went to English College (10 years ago, gosh I'm old!) and we loved it - it's a very established school with a good reputation. The primary school didnt do so well but it wasnt open very long, EC has been open since 1993 I believe. I would definitely send my DD there when she's older, I can't say anything bad about it.

Sorry but just because a maid has children of her own, doesn't mean she's going to be good with children in general - its not a qualification unless she proves it. My friend hired a maid who had children of her own back in Philippines, and the maid in her previous job used to look after a small baby while the mom went to work. About a week in, my friend asked the maid to watch her LO for a minute and then left the room. When the mom came back in, she saw the maid had given the 1 year old a tray of coins to play with! She got upset and asked her didnt she realise it was a choking hazard, and the maid said she hadnt realised. I would need a maid to prove she's good with kids, and not assume that just because she has kids that she knows how to handle them. Blimey, to an extent you are right but you need to remember that you are talking about a maid..... does one really need years and years of expereience to clean a loo? I think OP needs someone with experience to help with her children as well. I would agree with that, since some maids are great with cleaning but cannot handle babies/children. Maids with experience, get one who has there own already, then its easier to give instructions on how to handle yours. edited by lionlazy on 10/09/2014

I agree with Big Blue but I dont think your LO is significantly delayed that you need to worry. For your peace of mind though, you can go to a specialist just to check, Kids First is great. My DD didnt crawl till 9 months, always hated tummy time as well. By 11 months she would crawl on her knees and refused to walk until 14 months which was late according to the other kids in her nursery class, some had been walking by 10 months! Each child is different so dont worry too much about it and just enjoy each stage for what it is. Now DD is 2 years old and runs and walks just like the other kids (alhamdulilah)

You have the right app, "Find My iPhone" works for lost Apple phones, iPads and laptops. You sync this with your iCloud account, which you would use across all Apple devices (your iMac desktop, you iPhone, your iPad, your iPod). If you want to locate where your iPad is, make sure you have find my iPhone installed on your iPad, that you are signed into your iCloud account under 'Settings' of your iPad, and have Location Services on. If you lose your iPad, log into this webpage from any computer with your iCloud username and password: [url=https://www.icloud.com/#find'>https://www.icloud.com/#find[/url'> Once in, it will show all the devices linked to your iCloud account. Choose your iPad and it will show you on a Google map type map where it is. It will not be as specific to tell you the room of your house. I know for iPhones you can play a ringtone through this website so even if your phone is on silent, it will start beeping like crazy so you can hear it. You can also pop up a message saying "This phone is lost, please call 050 XXXXXX" so anyone who finds it can contact you to tell you. I once lost my iPhone and was able to find it through this. You can test it out for iPad too. This video might help: [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrikUjn2xcY'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrikUjn2xcY[/url'> edited by sourskittleashnut on 07/09/2014

DD was 11 months when I started work and DD started nursery, and she went through cycles. My husband drops me first, then her, so our goodbye was me getting out of the car. Every time I get out, I say "Bye, mama loves you, see you later". I would have kissed her too but we were double parked! [b'>Her reactions:[/b'> 11 months - 13 months = wave happily 13 months - 18 months = say "mama?" and cry 80% of the time 18 months - 2 years = Say "Bye mama" and wave, but then 30% of the time cry once I left the car 2 years - now (2 years 2 months) = says "Mama office! Bye mama!" and happily waves She might go through a phase of crying again, not sure, but there was no way for me to hide and slip out so I always made it clear this was goodbye for a short amount of time. I think honesty works best because they do know every day you're not there for that amount of time. That said, there were many days where she cried when I got out of the car, and I would cry as soon as I shut the car door, and have to compose myself before walking into the office! You didnt mention how old the daughter is, but at any age it will be difficult, but she should be honest with her so the child understands mama loves her and is only going away for a short amount of time, loves her, and will be back soon. Children are very perceptive and she might feel abandoned that mom just disappears without saying anything.

We live in a 1 BR and really wanted to sponsor a live out, However after looking at the cost of getting her a place and paying the rent, it didnt make financial sense, we were better off moving to a 2 BR with maids room. Keep in mind that a lot maids do sharing which comes out to cheaper but is technically not allowed, so when you apply that she is live out you need to rent her at least a studio which would have a high rent.

From what I've seen, the best are Melissa & Doug. They can be found in Waitrose Dubai mall and some big toy stores. I bought things like the ELC whizz around Garage and its a waste of money. DD lost interest after a few days, and prefers blocks, puzzles, shape sorters and her books. Also, if you have a girl, a big kitchen set is great to encourage using her imagination. Heck, you could get it for a boy too!

Hi, Thats great you want to keep your daughter engaged in after school activities. You could also do things that dont require going outside and paying alot of money, and it would be quality time between the 2 of you, something for her to look forward to as just alone time with you. Some ideas that I plan on doing with DD when she's older, each once a week: [b'>- Painting[/b'>: buy some watercolours and sketchbooks, and you both paint together. You can teach her about different colours and you have a different theme/colour every time [b'>- Cooking: [/b'>Bake a cake together and try new recipes every time. Discuss together what to make (cookies? cupcakes?) buy the ingredients together, bake together and then have fun decorating it really silly with m&ms, choc chips etc [b'>- Book club:[/b'> Take her to the book store, let her choose a book, and sit together and read it together. Book World has a really nice kids section where you can sit as well. As much as outdoor activities are important too, I think something like this would also really benefit her in terms of academics, critical thinking as well as quality time with mommy! Enjoy :)
