Wow absurd! How can they interfere in something like this? Shouldn't they address more important issues, like the ridiculous maternity leave. This is just a law passed by men who like to enforce their opinion on women with absolutely on empathy on their part. I'd like to see a man with chafed ni**les, painful stitches after an episiotomy and low milk supply be forced to breastfeed, see how he likes it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds this ridiculous! It's really sad how insurance companies will pick on the smallest thing, my doctor even spoke to them today to ask them to reconsider and they rejected it. Not sure what to do now, would going to a different clinic help? edited by sourskittleashnut on 22/01/2014

Yup DDs nursery closed on 12th (thursday) and now next 2 weeks is camp which is about AED260 a days, adds up to alot of $$$! This is common in nurseries here though, I thought

Lol loving the pacifier stories! The 2 stories I've heard about success from friends: - Threw it out the car window (!) in front of the kid and said 'oh no it fell out of the window' - it worked, she never asked again! - Keep cutting the tip off the rubber bit slowly (like 2-3mm) every 2-3 days, kid will realise its not having the same 'feel' and will lose interest - a better approach if you think your child will get very upset at going cold turkey

Just to add, if your girl is 2.5 years old and still on pacifier (and wakes up at night to look for it and disturbs you), best time to cut out pacifier is now. For that reason, and also development of her teeth etc.. Also sounds like you want to keep her next to you for convenience, which is your choice, I wouldnt do it - but thats what you get when you post here, alot of people who wont agree with you! Just do what feels right for you (though I strongly urge you to drop the pacifier!)

I agree with the 'me' time - ask hubby to watch the kids (or if they go to school/nursery during that time) go for a spa day, meet friends or just sit on the beach and think. It can get really overwhelming with kids husband housework etc and sometimes you need time to clear your head, things will look alot brighter and not as bad as you had thought. Also, I feel like theres alot of pressures on moms to think they have to be perfect, cheerful and top of everything with their kids all the time. Its ok to be angry sometimes, its ok if you get tired by them, I have just one toddler and I feel like I'm losing my mind sometimes! Maybe you're being too hard on yourself? I also recommend taking multivitamins, like Vitamin D and B12 and Iron - they are great for energy levels, before I found out I had a vitamin D deficiency I was cranky and tired and restless all the time, it has made SUCH a difference I feel like a new person! I hope you find a solution, but please dont be hard on yourself, no one is perfect, we all can just do the best we can.

I think expatwoman is more a website, with the forums being a small part of it, but they have resources etc too Frankly, though I love checking the forums everyday, but the one big forum for a 100 topics gets confusing to read sometimes and they lack alot of forum features.

I live on SZR next to Fairmont, and I go to Gladys salon next to the Lulu just across, it's actually quite close (the main road Lulu, it's not the one inside Karama) easy to get to, 130dhs and I get an amazing curls blowdry with pins so I open the pins just before leaving the house, and it lasts till my next wash!

Thanks for the live-out suggestion I didnt think of that, it could work since we are very close to Satwa, hopefully the authorities will allow it. will look into it The maids tell me it's legal for me to hire them but I thought it wasn't, even though they have bought from a local sponsor. Currently we have an agency come few times a week but they take 35dhs per hour, I need someone all day Saturdays (8 hours) to help with my daughter, would become very expensive! Will update on the live-out situtation, thanks!

Hi ladies, I really want to sponsor a full-time maid but since we are in a 1 bedroom we cannot :( I wanted to know is it legal to hire for part-time work, the maids who have bought their own visa from a sponsor and pay an annual fee for it?

got a real bargain at Huzaifa Furniture (just before Maktoum Bridge) in their DSF offer, a 3 + 2 + 1 + ottoman for 5000dhs! Their sales are really good and their modern furniture is quite nice (they have a seperate section for really bulky gold ornate furniture, not our type!). I love our sofas they look great, fab quality, and are super comfy, even after 3 years! They keep having sales so keep checking :) IKEA sofas are the worst, they are very poor quality. I'm also not a fan of Home Centre, they are not made to last. edited by sourskittleashnut on 25/11/2013

yes I highly recommend visiting, the staff are lovely. I send DD her 2 meals and snack, they dont provide food, but they are very helpful on giving feedback on her meals in her Daily Diary such as "loved her scrambled eggs" or "ate avocado after convincing" or "didnt like her pasta" so you get feedback on your child's response to the food, which I find very helpful :)

I work near DIFC too and I send DD to Inspire Nursery near Umm Suqeim Spinneys. I just posted about them in another thread, they have such great staff and DD is really happy there, they are open from 7:30am till 6pm. DD used to go to Horizon Nursery (then called Cooper Nursery) but I am much happier with Inspire. Hummingbirds location is convenient in DIFC but I felt like it was tooo cramped with not enough space for the kids, especially since your LO will be there for 10 hours! Inspire has a lovely outdoor play area and a large garden where the kids play regularly, weather permitting.

I'm not familiar with those nurseries, but I know my daughters nursery takes babies from 4 month onwards, and we are extremely happy with it. It's called Inspire Nursery and it's near Umm Suqeim Spinneys - DD settled really well, she loves her teacher and they are great with communicating on your child's progress. She was in the baby section when she started and was really well taken care of. They also put up pics regularly which is always something to look forward to, and you can see all their activities :) She went to Cooper Nursery initially for a term (now called Horizon Nursery) and I'm so much more happier with Inspire, I feel like they engage the kids alot more and DD seems happier here. Inspire has an Open Day coming up you should go see it: [url=https://www.facebook.com/events/545221905547178/'>link[/url'> edited by sourskittleashnut on 20/11/2013 edited by sourskittleashnut on 20/11/2013

Horizon Nursery is just next to the Noor Islamic Bank Station, across the bridge. My daughter went there in Spring (it was called Cooper Nursery then) and we were very happy with it, it is one of the more expensive nurseries though. The location would be perfect for you though, when you cross the bridge it's 3 villas down on your left. edited by sourskittleashnut on 20/11/2013

If he is saying to adopt a kid, then I dont think finances are the reason he doesnt want his own kid, it seems he just doesnt want kids. Full stop. It's okay if he doesn't, some people dont want to bungee jump, and nothing will convince them otherwise. Having kids isn't for everyone. I guess this is something that should have been clarified before they got married though, so that's a shame.

I'm pretty sure Chelsey Adams is spamming for this iron she has promoted on at least 5 other threads 700 DHS look like expensive did you try corioliss C1 hair straightener? Corioiliss is UK brand and its cheap then GHD in price, Corioliss c1 price is only 450 DHS and its available in Dubai and with free shipping as well. Almost same feature so why need to pay more? I think a full-time maid is your best option. You can check on Dubizzle and start doing interviews, I found mine through there but you have to sift through a lot of ads and make a lot of phone calls to find one! Another option is an agency but they take 10,000dhs fees to find you one. I also saw this site, not sure if it's reliable: http://www.findyourmaid.com/ In the meantime, Busybees or the like would be good, howevery they take 30 - 35dhs per hour which gets really expensive. Its cheaper in the long run to sponsor your own, and also better for the consistency. I'm surprised at the judgmental answers here its not usually like this when someone enquires about a maid. It's not really anyones place since everyones situation is unique. My mum raised 4 kids with small age gaps between us with no help, did all the cooking cleaning and kids school pick up and drop herself. I have one child who is just a year old and I'm struggling (and my admiration for my mom has gone through the roof!) If you dont agree with someone hiring a maid, dont read the thread.

Thanks for all the advice ladies! Seems like I'll need a full-time maid too, it's the only way to have consistency, I've also struggled days DD has been unwell to go to nursery and one of has to suddenly take the day off work. We can't sponsor a maid right now because we are in a 1 bedroom and the law is you need to have a 2 bedroom (and I'd like the maid to have her own room and space) so we are waiting for our lease to get over in December and move into a 2BR, and first thing will be to sponsor one! I'd like to keep DD in her current nursery because she's really happy there and I have a family member who works there so I have a lot of peace of mind from that :) For this week I finally found a babysitting agency that will go to Deira to my moms during the day, so thankfully I am sorted for these holidays Thanks all! edited by sourskittleashnut on 02/09/2013

Hello all, We are thinking about moving to Executive Towers, I'd like to know if there are kids play areas there? Like mini parks with swings etc? I know JBR has them scattered around the promenade level, was wondering if Exec towers does too? DD is 1 year old and becoming quite active, so we'd like to move somewhere with play areas/parks Thanks!

Thanks for the advice. I'd love to prevent DD from illness as would any parent, but I had measles and mumps as a kid, and actually all my 4 siblings came down with measles together and we were fine. I just don't want to try and prevent one thing but cause something else. My friends son was a normal talkative boy (babbling, he was 1 year) and after MMR vaccine he became really ill, and then stopped babbling or trying to talk as much as he used to and was quiet which was odd for him, and when it came to learning words he's quite slow and behind his age, he's 3 years now. She swears it's the MMR vaccine after which he was never the same again. Anyways, just contemplating the pros and cons :)

I delivered at Medcare, DDs heart rate dropped to a critical level so I had to be strapped in the bed so they could monitor her heart rate. This meant I couldnt get out of bed and do any of the exercises etc I had been practising! I couldn't even change sides while lying down, it was horrible because I had to just lie on my back and try to breathe but I got so stiff after 2 hours from not being able to move and taking contrations, I had to abandon my natural birth idea and get epidural to bear the pains - I think if I had been able to move around I might have been able to handle the pain better and use the ball etc (they had it at the hospital). They do support being able to move around etc, mine were just different circumstances.

Hi ladies, I'm really double minded about getting DD her 1 year MMR vaccine, apparently some studies show it can cause some problems including Autism. I'm going to be putting her name down in schools this September, will they check her vaccination history and deny entry to the school if she hasn't had all her vaccinations? She has had all her vaccines to date (HipB etc), I'm just not sure about the MMR one

I think you would know better the personality and character of your maid to judge how trustworthy she is. I have had some maids I would easily trust with a big advance, and some I could never have trusted enough. It really depends on your relationship with her.

I went there for my high school years (Year 7 till Year 11) and I loved it. Most of the students are from the UK (like 80%) and then a mix. I didn't see any racism or discrimination while I was there, I'm from Pakistan, and most of my friends were a mix of British, Australian, Indian, Sri Lankan etc etc. The facilities are great, it's not as big as the other schools but there were alot of activities for us. I attended 1997- 2001 so of course it might have changed by now, but in my time it was a fantastic school. Hope your kids like it there as much as I did :)
