Hi Ladies, it's lovely to read that many of you have welcomed your little bundles of joy into this world safely. This is the first time I have logged on since I gave birth almost 4 weeks ago now! Bubs is going well, she's just perfect. We are having some issues w BFing which I hope we are going to get through sooner rather than later. Argh, it seems so simple, I never expected to have BF issues :-/ So I really hope I haven't missed out on the get together, I will send an email and hope to get the details on where and when the meet up is. Look forward to meeting you all and sharing experiences!

Jeepers it's been a while since i logged on, thanks for your replies!! I think I will check out carseat.se and seriously will consider bringing one over through my SIL. I have to buy a new car to fit the baby, so any suggestions about that would be great too!

Hi KatieW1, I also had terrible MS until around 24 weeks, vomiting was around 4 times a day, not to mention the constant nausea and tiredness, hunger despite not wanting to eat etc. The worst days of my life let me tell you! I don't have a LO yet so it would have been somewhat different to your situation but I worked about everyday through it which was so so tough. I started on ginger tablets and ginger lollies but they made me sick after a week or so. Before I started taking navidoxine at 14 weeks these things worked; dry crackers near the bed for before bed and after waking, never allowing my tummy from being empty, sucking on hard candies for the same reason (try preggie pops if you haven't already), coconut water (fresh coconut from spinneys, cut hole off the top and drank the water) and avoiding fatty foods of any type. I tried to stop the Navidoxine at around 20 weeks but it came back quickly, so kept on it till 27 weeks. It didn't solve it entirely but made life a lot more bearable. I really hope it eases off soon. All the best and hang in there.

Destination Maternity. I bought some great skinny leg jeans from there that are just so comfy. Hope they will last the next few months as I will be wearing them A LOT!

Helllooooooo everyone! It's been ages since I logged on and what a lovely surprise to find there are more March babies. Just wanted to check in and say that all is well with us also, bubs is great, though I am always worrying if I am doing the right things, eating well enough etc being our first. She moves a lot though thankfully not so much jumping on my bladder as there was a few weeks ago! I still have the morning sickness sadly, on navidoxine and don't know what I'd do without it. Tried to stop a couple of times, resulting in vomiting in less than 24 hours. The OB has given me till 7.5 months to stay on it and thinks I won't need it after that. So we will see. I am starting to feel unprepared, and starting to think of the hospital bag packing, antenatal classes and of course, the delivery. We plan on going natural, and as a first pg it scares me the more I think about it. Wonder if anyone else is feeling like this??

Hi mpp_jl, the UAE online store called Blush and Bloom sells it. I remember I had a sample in one of my bags when I last bought stuff. They deliver too, so no need to order from Europe. edited by sparkly on 27/09/2011

Thanks Nutty, that does give me something to think about and puts it into perspective. It is an appt I feel I need but definately more for my emotions. I think because I am going on holidays I feel like I need to know everything is okay. I might just book in with my GP if an earlier appt doesn't come my way soon for that little bit of reassurance. :)

Thanks for your advice emanuela and nimonemo. The appt was cancelled because the Dr had to perform surgery, so I didn't complain at the time but I didn't realise how much I was looking forward to the appt until the day had passed. Maybe just to feel like everything is taken care of, this being my first pregnancy. Everything is totally fine, my 12 wk scan was good, i had the trisomy screening and blood tests which was all good too. I might have to try that out Nimonemo if my super sweet voice doesn't get me any results by end of today. They only have tues, wed and sun clinics with my Obs from what I can gather. :(

Hi Teftee, I am not totally sure but if I consider my visa, it says 'housewife not allowed to work' and i was able to get a labour card etc without any trouble. The status of my visa was changed in the system i guess, but it still says that I cannot work on my passport. HTH

Hi JMP, My husband and I spent 4 nights/ 4 full days in Rome for part of our honeymoon. I would say it was the most memorable part of our trip. We felt that it was the perfect amount of time and we saw alot. We stayed over near the railway station as we were taking the rail through Europe so it was a little far out on the side of Rome and we did a LOT of walking because of it. Next time we would stay closer to the Pantheon as it seems more central. We took 1 day for Vatican incl. Sistine Chapel and the Basilica, climbing to the top of the cupola, the papal tombs, and Museums in Vatican, 1 day for Pantheon, Piazza Navona, the fountains and the Spanish Steps, 1 day for the Colloseum and Forum, 1 day for other bits n pieces like shopping, roaming the streets looking at historical buildings etc and touring Castle San'Angelo. It was all on foot and we left the hotel every day at around 8am. We have such fond memories of our time there. Hope you enjoy it too! ETA We didn't do tours for anything, just lined up and paid to get in. Leaving for the sights in the early mornings saves waiting in queues. edited by sparkly on 20/09/2011 edited by sparkly on 20/09/2011

Hi manubhadauria, i bought some very simple ones from Life Pharmacy on Al Wasl Road until I find the ones I am looking for. I am almost 4 months now and still feel yuck though I do have more good days than bad. The bands do help and I am open to the fact it may be placebo but they work for me right now. I am also taking Navidoxine from the Obs recommendation and that helped a little, hence why I went and got the bands about a week or two after starting the tablets. I'm totally over it! If anyone knows where to get the watch band ones in colours, I'd love to know also. Next stop, accupuncture? ETA, the ones I bought were 15 AED edited by sparkly on 18/09/2011

Hi Manubhadauria! I am taking Navidoxine and it helps but not a whole lot. I still feel nauseated most of the day but the Navidoxine takes the edge off and I can cope better, eat more, and am not as put off by all the smells of food. I think I might also ask the Obs for something different but my next appt is not until end of Sept. Plan on hanging in there until then. I am 14 weeks along and it still hasn't gone. I just hope that the Navidoxine doesn't stop working, I am so afraid of it coming back like before the tablets. I still have to avoid milk and fatty foods (incl. crisps :( ). I have gum or anything peppermint at the ready in my bag, on my desk, beside my bed... Coke also helps me but I only drink it when I am feeling really off and only around 1/3 of a can. I don't crave anything, I wish I did so I could get some pleasure out of eating. ;) I agree with KellsBells, eat small amounts often as eating a standard size meal will just make things worse. All the best

Hi All! Redleaf that is great news, I hope your scan is all good!! I had my first scan (12 weeks) last week. Heard the heart beat which made me so teary, relieved and fell in love all in one, such a precious experience. I also did the DS scan a few days after and saw even more than I expected. I am still buzzing!! Still have the all day sickness which is driving me around the bend. Doc gave me the ok to take Navidoxine and it helps more than it hinders so I'll keep taking it. Still very aversive to many foods that's for sure! I don't have cravings for anything, just want to eat eat eat all the time but nothing in particular!! How's everyone else going?!

Hi SuzyDuzy!! I have been out all day and I hope I get to you in time. I know the Dr you have seen and know the centre you are going to. Both are good Dr's/ centre's. Yes I think MRI's are a worthy assessment for the right people. If you have testing arranged for tomorrow for BPPV and so on then I would suggest that you wait for those results until you decide yourself what to do about an MRI. If your tests for BPPV are negative or if there are any findings with your tests then an MRI would be indicated. In any case, as soon as imbalance/ dizziness is identified an MRI and CT are always requested to rule out the [u'>[i'>rare[/i'>[/u'> cases of nervous system abnormality. It really is a necessary part of an ENT workup where dizziness is involved. All the best for your tests tomorrow and feel free to ask more questions after if you are unsure!

Thank goodness! I was wondering if I was reading about a different country. All of my family are in Perth, no job losses and in fact my younger brother and sister now earn over 100k! Of course people complain about the price of bananas. As a formerly double income professional family, life is tougher financially over here. Lol, the price of bananas is always a hot topic when we have family over in Dubai!! I'm from Perth too and TBH we were better off and still would be even during these times if we were in Perth. It is more difficult for me to earn a good income here (I'm in healthcare) so my salary brings the double income down for us. The exchange rate makes it hard for us to keep up with financial commitments back home too. All of our family and friends in Perth are loving life, going on regular holidays, buying whatever they like just as they did before and no job losses. Perth is still the place to be, apart from it being a bit boring at times... :D

Congrats Giggles and DubaiNewbie2010! So many march babies!! I got the peppermint pops and the sour fruit and apple drops. Peppermint pops were nice at night after dinner and the sour fruit were good during the day at work. I got sick of the apple drops as there were so many more than the other flavours. I was popping them one after the other due to really severe nausea. In the end I didn't order more, but I think it is worth you trying them. Now I just buy any similar sort of lolly from the supermarket and find it's all about keeping your tummy from hitting empty. There is no in between for me anymore, just really full and then freaking starved, so lollies have helped out a lot to get me through. :) I haven't been anywhere for around 6 wks because I need food within arm's reach which is impossible during Ramadan. This 'morning' sickness is so cruel! I am 12.5 wks now and I hope, hope, hope I am done. I have a 2-3 coconuts a week. They are hard to open!! My other tip would be to definately nap in the afternoons if you can. That little extra sleep makes so much difference if you can do it. I do it on the weekends and feel so much better, I can even eat better after a nap. All the best :D

HI nbm, I work in the field. If he is saying some words, are they clear? Does he have any risk factors in his history from pg to birth and first few months of life? Has he met physical milestones? (don't need to answer on here, but do consider). Best thing is to guide you to a reputable association such as ASHA so you can see milestones for speech and language. Check out the links from birth to two years and see where he is situated. http://www.asha.org/public/speech/development/chart.htm I don't in any way want to worry you as I have a nephew who was exactly as you described your son, angry/ frustrated and was very late to talk, but he talked well when he finally did. He might have had a bit of speech therapy just to get him going but truly he is fine now, not behind his peers at all and no longer agitated. If you are concerned, find a good Audiologist and clear the hearing once and for all. Or find an ENT who can guide you to a good Audiologist. Don't let anyone else do a hearing test for you as they are not trained to do so. All the best :)

I started taking in Dec-Jan and conceived in June. I agree with AmyAus82 and Kristina_rmnv that it does no harm, so start now. All the best! :)

No problem, I hope you can somehow find an easier way! I found it alot easier to call the embassy in Aus first, find a person to talk to and I sent to them, got their email address and went about it that way. It felt better sending those documents to someone rather than just anyone. ;)

Hi Waterbaby, I'm not from the UK but the process you have described is exactly what I had to do for my marriage cert and all education certificates when I came here. Had to send them all back to Aus to be attested in the UAE Embassy there then here at Embassy, then MOFA. I think that regardless of where the visa will be, the process is the same as it is a MOFA policy. Really is a hassle! Good luck :)

Welcome coconell! :) Lol, I hate ginger with a passion now also. Thinking about it makes me sick. I have not been sleeping as well as I usually would, waking normally early morning and I always have to peeee! Then I start dreaming all weird stuff coz I sleep so light in the mornings. It's hard because I am such a heavy sleeper usually. I just posted on the cold meats thread if you all wanna see what my Doc told me. It is really hard though as I just love cold turkey and chicken!! Nimonemo, I have my first Obs appt at 12.5 wks, same situation as you. I had to do a blood test to confirm the HCG levels were all good at 5 weeks but other than that no tests for me. ** ETA- also each visit to GP I do a urinalysis to make sure kidneys are coping. I have to thank MOMOFTWINS! I had a coconut water drink on the weekend and it really did help to settle my stomach. I ate well for 1.5 days after that. The nausea was completely gone (until I went overboard and over ate as I was enjoying myself to much :\: ) edited by sparkly on 20/08/2011

Hi Ladies, I have a brochure here given to me by my GP. It is by a Aust and NZ body for Food standards. These are the foods to avoid and safer options (after the = sign) with regard to Listeria. I have been craving cold meats too, so if I must have a toastie with turkey I will grill/cook the cold meat first. Deli meats= [b'>safer [/b'>to eat home cooked meats, you can cook and serve cold within 1 day Cold cooked chicken from shops= home cooked and use within a day Pate Salads from shops or salad bars= home made, wash everything Chilled seafood= freshly cooked seafood Semi soft and soft cheeses= hard cheeses, processed spreads, cream cheese, cottage cheese Soft serve ice cream or unpasteurised dairy= frozen packaged ice cream, all pasteurised dairy HTH!

Maybe it is a silly question and maybe I am overthinking it, but some suggestions might help me out, i think i am just looking for options and alternatives on how to tell family that I might not necessarily be very close with. Hi Nimonemo, I don't have insurance (thinking about getting ADNIC as many EW talk about on here) but I will be getting a package with City Hospital with or without insurance. I don't have experience with American. I have not heard great things about Medcare but really is only hearsay. I didn't know you could 'buy' packages when on insurance but if what you mean is to obtain pre-approval for a list of services within a maternity program then it would be a great idea to do that. Preapproval means it is guaranteed to be paid by the insurance company so long as the preapproval does not expire. The hospital insurance dept should take care of this. Once you have preapproval, regardless of which hospital you end up with, you will know exactly what is and isn't included before it happens. A great thing I think. Congrats DubaiKB! I have my first scan at 12 weeks- coming up quickly! Wish I had one earlier as I said before it doesn't feel like it's really happening yet. All the best!

*Brrrrrrrr* I was there a few years back over Xmas and it rained alot and snowed a tiny bit too. This is in Amman which is high up. Petra was freezing at the time, still doable but very cold and windy. The hot springs were lovely to visit then. I think the Dead Sea would be a bit warmer. You are looking at temps around 10 during the day and about 2 or 3 at night.

Hi KChristine, I process the WPS for my staff. There were teething issues for the first 1 -2 months as I got the format of the document wrong-ish but now it is fine and the process takes 2 days to maximum 3 from the moment I submit to the bank and this is regardless of whether the bank acct of staff are the same or different to the business'. Hello.Again.Kitty is right, MOL take it very serious. Any company not complying with WPS can get a black mark from MOL and this will prevent visas etc being processed for the company for several months for each offence. MOL check monthly who is paying who and what percentage of employees are being paid- it should be over 60% of total number of staff recieving through WPS as I have been informed. Good luck

Oh oh Pingu, I really feel for you, MS is the worst! I noticed some of you are getting early scans. My GP mentioned it but said not to worry and to take it easy unless any concerns arise, which they haven't. I kind of wish I had done it now. I have my 12 week scan in about 2 weeks but I feel it's kind of a long time to wait to see the little tadpole! Is that why you all have early scans or is it due to concern? what reasons do you have them for? I am 10 wks tomorrow and haven't told anyone but as I am living with family other than my husband it is becoming a bit difficult to keep it quiet. I sort of wish I had a scan to confirm to me that this is 100% happening so that at least I can start to tell family soon but still feel like i need to wait. And I know it's better if I do but circumstances are not typical whilst living with others. Great news though, my MS is alot better this week again and I *hope* that's it. I still have a little vomit in the morning before breakfast but after that most of the day I feel 'relatively' good- i just snack regularly so I don't run on empty. Still nausea which I hope these preggie pops I am getting today will settle. By the way if you order them from Blush and Bloom they deliver and you can pay cash on delivery. Best thing ever! Nimonemo I was extremely tired a few wks back when the MS was really bad I also fell asleep at work once ;)

Aryanwynn, I previously reported a company to the DED Consumer Rights section and it was very successful. Got a fast response and the company I reported did a complete 180 to solve the issue. I couldn't believe how effective it was, this being Dubai and all! Might be an option should the other options not work out for you. Check out the DED website under consumer protection> contact us

Kissymac, do you need a prescription for Navidoxine? I am toying with the idea of getting some but this week I am feeling slightly better, I am now almost 10 wks and i *hope* it's going away but a part of me feels it slightly early to be the case :( I discovered recently that if I avoid dairy in the mornings I can have a relatively good day, as in I can go all day with no vomiting (but still nausea). I had a bit of cereal the other morning and yoghurt another day and just couldn't digest them. BUT at lunch time I tend to eat cereal also (as it is Ramadan and I am eating in my office) and it makes me feel great. Funny hey? Fullofdreams, I just haven't felt well enough to visit the Herbal centre or anywhere else for that matter and I don't know how you did it! Thankfully as I am starting to feel slightly less sick I am starting to think about exercise, which is a step in the right direction! Might take a week or two to start though :):)

Hi AussiePup, i know someone who sends all their money to HSBC in Jersey in the Channel Islands in USD as soon as he gets it into his HSBC acct in the UAE. As it is in USD you don't lose out as the AED is pegged to it. All you will pay is a transfer fee. They think it's wonderful and easy at the same time. Anyway we are trying to keep as much invested in USD until the AUD goes down. We are praying for the day the Oz $ goes down too.. mortgages are stinging right now :(

I have had some Pingu. A lot during week 4 to 5 and now just occasionally and it's different to the cramps i felt a few weeks ago. One morning last week I had a very dull ache in my lower tummy on both sides n all around, and it made me feel really yuck. A few twinges and pulls otherwise. Sometimes when I cough i get a sharp pain. Dr palpated my tummy a few days ago and i was quite sensitive on one side. Think it is all the vomiting I have been doing, caused a strain- really struggling with the morning sickness but that's another story. It got better for a few days and I was so happy that it might be easing but it seems to have come back again. :(

Will see how that goes, am still thinking of transferring over to Dr Elsa for the 2nd scan but only because I suspect a female Oby/Gyn would be easier for me. Think i might book the 2nd appt with Dr Elsa like you did Eli1979, just to reserve a spot as they go quickly! Hi all, this is my first post but this really beckoned! I am currently 7 weeks with my first and I have had a terrible time over the past 2 to 3 weeks. I think it started slightly early, around 4.5 weeks, and came on strong. I bought some ginger lollies and they worked great with the nausea but didn't help me to eat anything. Started ginger tea and then went onto ginger root capsules. Nausea was improved but i think i had trouble digesting the capsules (ginger root is hard to digest I read), i felt so blocked up and vomited everything back up every evening. I fainted for the first time ever last week. Needless to say I stopped all ginger, as I now also hate the taste! and smell! and thought of it! argh I had gone about 1 week without a decent meal and thankfully I was able to eat like a normal person for about 2 days after that, like my body just HAD to get something. I find that if I start the day eating a few crackers in bed, then eat a light breakfast (like bread with jam) I can start the day off well. I eat dairy in small portions because it doesn't go down too well otherwise, and avoid meats as much as possible as I hate the smell. I answer to cravings if possible and feel better. I am constantly hungry so eat as much fruit as I can, and for lunch I eat salad and.. crackers. I also noticed my prenatal vits were making me sick. So i will change them this week. It's taken me about 3 weeks to get the hang of it, but I am still miserable from it. It's been the hardest 3 weeks I have ever been through!
