you dont have to be a local to work from home. You just need a Local to sponsor your business. There are a heck of alot of woman here who work from home that are licensed and not local. You are not legally allowed to run a business from home. To be licensed you need a local sponsor, office lease or ownership attested in company name plus pay all the fees. People like freelance hairdressers who pay a salon to give them a labour card are not legal. Virtual offices are also not legal according to the DED. A freezone license is for the freezone only.

Now we are getting somewhere. So, if I sell my stuff on, say, etsy or ebay, I wouldn't need a license? In Denmark, you would have to have an income of more than 50000 dkk a year from your shop, before registering as a company. Less than that, you're private. Is it something like that here as well, or do you need a license for very dirham earned? In my head, that doesn't make sense, as you don't need license to sell on dubizzle. No nothing like that here. You don't need a license to sell personal belongings but if it was a product that you were selling then yes you would need a license. If you are selling a product then you also have to register the ingredients of the product with the relevant authorities. If you are importing something then selling it on you would then need an LLC license which has more requirements.

I wonder how they control this. For instance if I were sell something on Ebay and it gets delivered to someone in the UK, how does that affect the UAE authorities and how do they track it? Since they dont lose out on any taxation revenues? If I publish an e-book on Amazon and it starts to sell, and none of the actual product comes and goes into or out of the UAE, and my paypal account is registered abroad, I wonder if they really care? I suppose it makes a difference if there is a real home business going on and the internet is just a marketing tool, but wonder how much they care about businesses that are entirely web-based? Interesting topic. I dont think Ive seen any stories of anyone getting caught or prosecuted for that yet Paypal only allows you to accept a certain amount of money without the paper work to prove you are a business. You can't accept online credit card payments without a merchant account. To get a merchant account you need business license and a huge deposit. Aramex and such will come and pick up stuff from you and deliver it to where you want, you do not need to be a business to do this.

Demand cheques and commission back. Threaten with RERA and police if they don't give you the contract and keys by a time specified by you. Unfortunately here you shouldn't hand anything over until keys and contract are in your hands.

Cambridge is a good quality school but not a top tier GEMS school so the fees are less and teachers packages are lower than say Wellington or JC. They still have qualified teachers but from more of a nationality variety and come from other teaching backgrounds not always Brit Curriculum Schools, students nationalities are very varied and some come from families with lower budgets for schooling. They get good results. I know a few families whose kids go there and are happy.

I think management had a few issues with staff retainment due to late salaries and such when they first opened. Some teachers were offered certain things and when they got here were given something completely different. I know of one teacher who was offered 15k per month and when she got here they took it down to 7.5 for no reason. A lot of teachers including heads did runners in the middle of the night. I think now this has been resolved. So the quality of staff has improved. I know people who have their kids there and are happy, but I wouldn't send my children there.

They are the yellow slips you get when you pay the 5000 dhs deposit for your first residence visa. These are receipts and you will not be refunded the deposit without them. edited by Di@DXB on 18/06/2012 I'm under husband sponsorship and can't remember to pay any deposit for my visa. For what kind of visa the deposit is/was required ? Never heard of a deposit being paid for a residence visa. Are you sure they don't mean the DEWA/Telecoms deposits? No it is not the DEWA/Telecoms deposit receipts, they want the receipt of the dhs5000 I paid the first time my residence was processed. I had to pay dhs5000 deposit which is refundable upon leaving Dubai providing I keep the receipts. The slips are white and yellow stickers printed in Arabic issued by immigration. We've never paid for a deposit for any of our visas here.

out of interest, how/where do you get a DEWA/rental contract certified? I gave up trying to get anything certified and gave immigration my original tenancy contracts and DEWA bills as well as copy from leasing agent of the Title Deeds of the property together with copies of deposit receipts of original residence, salary letter and passport. and of course the forms, the health test papers and old ID, and payment for the residence visa and new ID. edited by Di@DXB on 18/06/2012 What are the deposit slips of original residence?

Not if she's not accepting any money from these businesses or selling anything to them. Anyone can put up a website that has information on it, but when companies want to start advertising on it or she wants to accept payments or hire staff then she would need a license. <em>edited by starsouthern on 18/06/2012</em>

If you have your own visa from a company and meet position and salary criteria then it would be no problem. If your husband is your sponsor then no you can't sponsor a maid he has to do it as he is the primary sponsor.

My uncle is highly trained in fetal medicine and scanning in NZ. When it came to the scans of his twins he said at 12 weeks that one of them was 100% a boy, he couldn't tell with the second as it was facing the other twin. He had two girls! We're all human even a highly trained person can make mistakes. With all three of my kids I waited till after 20 weeks to find out. <em>edited by starsouthern on 11/06/2012</em>

Hi, I sent me voucher off today and got the 16th June booked. rather annoying that it's not until you book it that you're informed not valid for Thursday or Friday, bit naughty of them, at least there's a long weekend coming up that I could use it on the Saturday. It was in the fine print of Living Social before purchase that's why I didn't buy.

Hi little_zuzu, If I remember correctly CH issues you a birth notification that you pick up from the hospital after a few days. After you collect that you call baby steps and they will come to your house and pick up the notice, your passports etc and organize your birth certificate...it doesn't take them long at all. Hope this helps edited by Jalapeno on 04/06/2012 My husband wanted to be the man and do it himself with baby no 2, it was only about 100 dhs cheaper than using baby steps and it took 3 days. Baby no 3 he called Baby Steps. <em>edited by starsouthern on 04/06/2012</em>

My daughter's cornea has been scratched and she keeps blinking in one eye. I called Moorfield and they offered me an appointment in a WEEK!! Any ideas on who else would be a good opthamologist? See if you can get an emergency appointment with Dr Habash at American Hospital. We had a terrible experience at Moorfields which I've written about on a couple of other posts if you do a search. The Dr recommend on this thread spoke to us for one minute and pffed pffed any of my questions then signed off on the wrong script for an 8 year old.

A villa you can park your car in the drive and carry your shopping inside. If your child has fallen asleep you can carry them in to the couch or bed and then unload car. In a villa you can open your back door and let kids run around while your making dinner, ironing etc. In an apartment you have to carry your groceries in several trips to the lift. If your child you either have to do this while carrying them or while pushing a push chair. You then have to wait for the lift. When lift comes you have to put shopping inside. Then stop at every floor until you've reached your stop coz some ****** has pressed the up and down button at ths same time or all the buttons in the lift. You then take all shopping just out of the lift. Put sleeping child inside, then bring shopping in. Child wakes up wants to play outside, you then have to stop cooking/ironing etc and take child downstairs (if lucky to have facilities) to play. If unlucky then back in car to nearest patch of grass. In my experience with kids villa every time!

I was searching on web and found this on a real estate website: A landlord may sell his/her property during the period of a lease agreement. However, the tenant has the right to occupy the property for the period of their lease agreement and the new owner is obliged to honor the lease agreement until the end of the expiry. A renewal of the lease agreement will be at the discretion of the new owner, however, should he/she not wish to use the property for their own residential use, and then the tenant will have the right to ask for the renewal. seems no chance for us....we have to move out That's not RERA law even if the new owner wants to move in they have to give 12 months notice. Give RERA a call, they are helpful. I've been down there 3 times and was told the same thing 3 times. <em>edited by starsouthern on 03/06/2012</em>

we received call from agent that LL sold our house. Our lease ends in september 2012. Now agent wants us to sign lease contract with new owner details. But he said new owner will not renew from September as they want to move in themself. Will contract now end in september ? Or is there another notice they have to give us? I have no reply from RERA right now. Just thought one of you have experience and can help? I am sick of moving every year.... RERA have told me it doesn't matter what the reason is all tenants need to be given 12 months notice to vacate. This can be given by registered mail or email either at the end of current contract or at the beginning of new contract.
