I take Webber Naturals 1000 mg and I've been pleased with them. The doctor said two times a day but it broke out my face terribly so I cut it down to once a day and no more breakouts and still great results.

Thank you for the tips TB, we do all of that. We keep 2 water heaters on, our bathroom and the kitchen and the kids shower and bathe in our bathroom. We do have some grass out back b/c of three small children but we water it 2 minutes a day and just enough in the summer to keep it alive.

*sigh* I know what you are saying MG. That's just our reality with a family with three kids. But it would be nice for our DEWA bills to be less than our mortgage on our house in the states. LOL

I've heard rumors that DEWA charges different rates for areas like Al Barsha vs Arabian Ranches. Does anyone know if this is true or not? We are currently in the Ranches and we are moving next month and considering a villa in Al Barsha. I know locals get charged differently than expats. But here in the Ranches we live in a 5 bedroom and regularly pay around 4000 dhs a month for DEWA. The house in Al Barsha is brand new and a little larger but we'd love to get away from the massive DEWA bills and we were wondering if our DEWA would be cheaper there.

You can take AP classes in many different subject areas. And many colleges and universities accept them as credit for the college course so when students get to college, they don't have to take that class again but still get the credit for taking it. Works out really well for students to finish a little earlier and saves on tuition. Many high schools offer partnerships with local community colleges and 4 year colleges that help students interested in certain careers. My girlfriend's son wants to be in the medical field and as a junior he applied and was accepted into the local community college medical program. So for his Junior and Senior year in the morning he went to his high school for class and then in the afternoon a bus took all the students in this program to the college and they attended medical classes there in the afternoon. It was a lot of work but it was a fantastic opportunity for him to earn college courses in the area he wanted to be in AND it was all paid for by the local school district so my girlfriend had to spend less money on his university tuition. There are so many programs like that in the states for the students that really want to succeed and are good students.

As we were walking to the event we had 3 different families tell us to be careful of the crowds, don't bother going, it's a madhouse in there. But we kept on going since the tickets were free and it was pure madness when we got there. There were just too many people for what they had available.

SusieSue, I'm with you. We walked in, fought our way through the crowds only to find huge lines for everything. After getting pushed around and seeing there was no way our kids could do anything we left. Thank goodness our tickets were given to us for free. And that snowball zone wasn't even snow. It was basically powered soap and kids were throwing it at each other and it was getting into each other's eyes. Several kids were sitting out crying that their eyes were burning while their moms try to clean their eyes and faces.

We are in the same boat - hoping this helps you: http://www.dubailand.gov.ae/english/Tashjee/RulesandRegulations/Law%2033.pdf Unfortunately, Article 26 applies only if they recover the property for their own use. This is the loophole all these ***** are using. Thank you. Yes that's the one I keep finding too. Everyone says it's illegal but I can't find the law to back that up. We did try going to the rent committee last year about this and they weren't helpful. All they told us to do over and over was open up a case. And then informed us that all documents must be in triplicate and translated to Arabic. By that time we were 2 months past our lease expiring and our residency visas were due to be renewed and we didn't have a valid lease so we were out of time to fight the LL.

I understand that it's 12 months notice to evict you for the 4 reasons and if either the demolition or alteration ones are used the LL has to provide proof that he has permission to do either of these things. The immediate family moving in has a 2 year penalty if he tries to relet. [b'>What happens if he uses the selling reason and then doesn't sell once you're out? Is there anything to say he can't immediately rerent?? Surely if this was the case that's the reason every LL would give ????[/b'> Does anyone know the law behind this? I can find the law saying they can't relet if they evict you on grounds of family moving in but what about selling? Last year our LL waited 2 days before our lease was up and tried to raise our rent by 70K per year. We said no and she then told us she wanted to sell so she gave us a one year non renewable. The lease is up in Feb 2014 and tonight we received an email saying she wants to re let the villa and wants to start showing it to people to rent. Where can I find a law that says she can't kick us out for selling and then turn right around and re rent it? Thank you!

Last week I walked into that dept to book an appt for an ultra sound and mammogram having just finished my yearly Ob/gyn exam downstairs and instead of having to make an appt they asked if I could wait and be seen in a few minutes. I was completely caught off guard but did agree to wait. Dr. Alex saw me and after the u/s she asked if I had time to stay for a mammo and called my insurance directly to get approval. Less than 5 minutes later I was getting a mammo done. She read my films right then and said she doesn't want women to have to wait for the results and worry. She was wonderful and treated me so well. I can't say enough good things about her. I'm sorry you were treated like that. Maybe you could to speak to someone else in the dept.

I just did a 14 hour flight by myself this week with a 6.5, 4.5, and 2 year old and lived to tell about it. LOL. We sat three by the window with me on the aisle and my 6.5 year old across the aisle from me. We sat the row behind bulkhead bc i dont like that bulkhead armrests dont go up. The oldest two are easy now. They each have a back pack with their own headphones, a gaming system and their own snacks. I keep a plastic bottle (its a Gerber Graduates Puff container that I repurposed) and it has an easy lid for them to take on and off. I fill it with their favorite snacks. They also have a spill proof cup/water bottle to keep it easy. They are happy to watch movies on the plane. The two year old is another story and I loaded up my iPad with her favorite movies and shows. She had her own headphones too. I also brought a new pack of reusable stickers and when she got cranky on the final two hours of the flight I let her stick the stickers all over. They are easy to clean off before we land. I medicated her on the way to the states this summer and it completely back fired. It made her overly tired and she only slept three hours of the 15 hour flight. Not fun. So on the return trip she didn't get medication and I changed her into pj's after the meal was served and she fell asleep. After a bit I transitioned her to a little pallet I made on the floor and she slept 6 hours straight. That allowed me to let the 4.5 year old to stretch out and sleep. It's do-able, not fun but do-able. Just be organized and carry a lot of patience with you.

Just to add, three years ago we unknowingly went over the income limit that can contribute to our Roth IRA's. Now we are only eligible to contribute to IRA's which are not as tax advantageous as a Roth. We had already contributed that year and had to take the money back out and recategorize it into our IRA. It was a huge pain in the rear end, so be mindful if you are close to the income limit.

Jules22 how have we met? *trying to figure out this mystery* Games are on the weekends. Some teams practice during the week but all games are on the weekends. Our team practiced right before the game which was really nice. I know that my older son is getting into the more competitive bracket and we will probably have practice during the week. All nationalities can play but I have only seen Americans playing and one Brittish child. I've seen a lot of dual nationality families but one parent is American so there is that tie to the sport. It was NOT easy getting the equipment in Dubai and each store I went into and asked about gloves, bats, etc, they would always say the same thing, "Baseball?? Oh no, we don't sell baseballs...we have cricket." Decathlon was very hit or miss and didnt have the right gloves. They only had right handed gloves. I don't think their buyer understands that you put the glove on the opposite hand that you throw with so we could never get the gloves here despite driving all over Dubai looking for some. We finally had a friend bring them from the states. Don't forget to get a glove for you so you can practice with them. Catching bare handed gets old after awhile especially when they get stronger with their throwing. Jules, my boys used regular running shoes and they were fine. This year we will probably get my oldest cleats but they are easy to find in Dubai. Decathalon has a goid selection. The team will provide bats and batting hats. But we wanted extra bats to practice with so we had a friend bring them from the states along with a nice T stand to practice with. This summer my DH brought back wiffle balls, bat bag, and other stuff for the kids to practice with. I think that answered all the questions.

Both of my boys played T-ball this past season and had a great time. The coaches were great and were very good at teaching the boys the skills needed to play. They really stressed sportsmanship and our team always cheered each other on and even cheered on the other teams. It was a fantastic group. Our team did not have any girls on it but I saw several girls on other teams. At the T-ball level everyone hits each time the team is up to bat so it's not too competitive. This coming season my oldest son will move up to machine pitch while my youngest stays in T-ball. Registration is currently underway and is 1,000 AED. That will include the uniform, (minus cleats and glove), team picture, and trophy at the end of the year. The T-ball facilities are very nice and our family enjoyed going to the games each weekend and at the end of the season our team had an awesome end of the season party. BTW, are you from the states?

Thank you for the information. The men on that flight are contractors and not US military and I know from flying that route many times before, they get good and hammered in the airport lounge before boarding. This flight is all about saving money and using the difference between my business class fare and the coach fare to furnish the new lake home we are Buying next week. I'll just keep chanting that in my head over and over when I'm stuck in line for the smelly, dirty bathrooms. With my noise canceling headphones and sleeping pill, I will survive this. LOL

Does anyone know if I can plug my iPad in at my seat to charge it while I fly? Also, do they give you any type of pillow in coach or should I bring my own? Great thread! I was just going to post that about the parking meters as I've been here 5 years and just learned that about a month ago. My tip is if you have Etisilat you can get 1 GB of internet on your phone (I have the Iphone 4s) for 99 AED a month. It's so easy and all you do is text 1010 and enter SM1G and you'll get a sms telling you that you are under review and shortly after that you get a sms telling you that you are good for the next month. After the one month trial period they send you another sms telling you what code to type in so you can renew indefinitely. There is no office to visit, no payments to go make, nothing but making sure you have at least 100 AED on your phone around your renewal time (and of course the first time you sign up) and that's it. I find the 1 GB of data to be plenty for checking email, using FB, playing Words with Friends while I'm waiting on the school run or waiting on an appointment. While I'm at my house I use my wifi so I'm only using my data while I'm out. And if you get close to your limit they will send you a sms but I've never gotten close. I went without internet for a long time b/c my iphone is a factory unlocked purchased directly from Apple and I didn't want to have to sign any contracts with Etisilat but now, problem solved.

We imported both of our cars from the states and have several American friends that have done the same. It wasn't expensive at all and our cars were nearly brand new so we would rather ship them here then sell them at a loss in the states. None of us had damaged cars or were trying to hide damaged cars, etc, we just wanted our cars here and it's not costly. Plus my model is not sold here and I wanted to keep it. There hasn't been any issue with A/C's for either of our cars. It's a myth that they build different cars for different parts of the states and the a/c's won't work. We bought one of our cars brand new in the states and our particular dealership didn't have it in stock so they got it from another dealership up north where it's much colder. There isn't a different a/c on the car. When we are done here in Dubai we'll sell both of our cars and buy new ones back in the states rather than ship them again. Not b/c we are trying to scam anyone but I'm sure there is someone out there that would buy and enjoy a good secondhand car that has been taken good care of. We have not had any issues with getting work done on our cars and have used the service departments for GMC and Honda and not one issue at all. Like Littleone said, the only issue we've had is the radio stations don't come in the best but I plug my iphone into my car and use my own music anyway. Oh and the other thing is you get used to looking a kph rather than mph on the dashboard but other than that, it's been great having our cars here.

The Odyssey is very good but it is rare here, and if you will be driving a lot on highways, I would not take it because of its "image". If you observe carefully, most Toyota Previas are bullied, with everyone flashing them, cutting them off, mainly because it is used as a people carrier . Actual Odyssey owners can tell whether this same lack of courtesy is extended to the Odyssey as well An SUV would command more "respect". If you want van style convenience, maybe a Ford flex would be convenient without looking like a van The GMC Acadia seems to be used a lot by families with 3+ kids as well. Of course if you are a confident driver and can handle Dubai roads, the Odyssey would be fine. I drive a mini van for it's safety and convenience, not for the image. I would guess I could "command respect" for driving my family around in a car that has one of the best reputations for safety in the industry. The big SUV's don't flash me anymore than the other cars on the road and frankly they don't matter to me. What matters to me are the three littles in the back seats happily watching Toy Story without a care in the world.

We shipped our Honda Odyssey Touring here from the states. Best decision ever. We have 3 children 6 and under and it's the best car for a big family and lots of room inside. We have the Touring edition which has all the bells and whistles, DVD player, back up camera, heated leather seats (which are so practical in Dubai. LOL). If you are going to drive a mini van might as well do it in style.

You can have a lovely time with a trip around the south. You will meet some of the nicest people in the world in the south and see what they mean by "Southern Hospitality". My car broke down in southern Alabama and a one legged man driving an old El Camino stopped to help me and fixed my car with nothing but his cigarette lighter and hands. I still laugh every time I think of him flicking that cigarette lighter on inside my engine and how I took two steps back when I saw that. But the one legged man got me back on the road right away! True story. If you want a taste of class stop at George Vanderbilt's home, The Biltmore http://www.biltmore.com in Asheville, NC (gorgeous city!!!). When you leave Asheville drive through Franklin, NC through the Smokey mountains and down into Atlanta through a little town called Dillard, Georgia and stop and have dinner at the Dillard House http://www.dillardhouse.com . The food is true southern dishes and they serve it family style. Meaning, you won't get a table for just two, they will seat you at a large table and put all the food out on the table and everyone passes it around like you would eat with your family. Incredible food and you meet some great people. Just down the road on your way into Atlanta there is a dairy farm and you can stop and buy a bottle of chocolate milk that is so rich and creamy it's like drinking a chocolate shake. It's divine! Atlanta is a fun town, you can see the Coca Cola museum, go to Six Flags, catch a baseball game. There are lots of museums and natural monuments like Stone Mountain. You could see Savannah GA on the coast. We used to live there. It's a really pretty town. You can also go the other direction and see Alabama and go to Huntsville, AL where NASA has the US Space & Rocket Center http://www.spacecamp.com/museumHome if you enjoy that type of stuff. From Huntsville you can head west and see Memphis TN and visit Elvis Presley's home. I'm not as familiar with Mississippi and Arkansas so I can't help as much there. But Texas, deep sigh, Texas is home for us and it's such a great state. On your road trip in the south make sure you stop if you see a sign for boiled peanuts. You buy them at little road side stands and they come flavored like cajun or you can get plain. Delicious!!! Same goes for the fruits and vegetables along the road. When you are in GA stop for peaches. They are to die for. Same goes for Vidalia onions if they are truly Vidalia onions. So sweet and you'll never shed a tear when you cut them. Also, I-10 (Interstate 10) is not as pretty of a drive as 1-20. They parallel each other but I-10 is much further south. Enjoy your trip and I hope you are treated well in the south! <em>edited by SunDevil on 25/02/2013</em>

Yes a comforter goes inside the duvet. But you typically don't put a standard comforter inside a duvet. For example, we have a comforter on our bed and it's the thick, warm comforter, but it's in a gorgeous pattern that matches all of our bedding so I wouldn't want that in a duvet. We have a duvet but a plain, white down comforter goes inside of it. But if you have a thick comforter and it's getting a bit dated and you'd like to change the look of your room, you could buy a new duvet in a color and design that you like and slip that old comforter into the duvet. Does that help?

In the US a duvet is only the cover. It's just like two sheets sewn together. It does not include the comforter that goes inside.

I had braces as a child but didn't wear my retainers and in my early 20's I had my wisdom teeth removed which caused my teeth to be crooked. At 31 years old I did Invisalign and was not happy with the results so I had my ortho put the regular metal braces on and got perfect results. I should have skipped the expensive Invisalign and just gone with metal braces from the start but I was afraid of how I would look at 31 with metal braces. Turns out people never really noticed my braces. DH wanted his teeth straightened 2 years ago (he was 41 at the time) so he went to Nicolas and Asp and did the consult and they said he was a "textbook perfect case for Invisalign". I told him over and over not to do it and just get metal braces and he didn't listen to me. He got the Invisalign and 8 months into his treatment the dentist admitted that his case would indeed need metal braces. All that money wasted. Now he has the metal braces and his teeth are looking really good and he gets them off in 2 weeks. Get the braces and don't worry about what other people will think. But I do caution against Invisalign even if the dentist says you are a text book perfect case for them.

Just as a side; why do you want to keep giving your money to this person? I'd guess because the rents being asked of new tenants really are ridiculous at the moment. You have some protection as an existing tenant, but once you start looking for something new you are at the mercy of the sharks. Exactly! We would never find a house this size, in this location, and this nice (thanks to our hard work) for what we pay now. No way. So we deal with them so we don't have to move. We've been in UAE 5 years and we figure we have another 2 more to go and then we'll head home. If we can just make it through the next two years in this place without having to move, we'll be happy.

This is the same LL that called us in October and told us they have a buyer for the house. We didn't even know it was for sale. I told them they have to give us a years notice that they are selling and they said they would give us a years notice when it sells. After finally going round and round with them that it's illegal to treat us this way I just gave up arguing with them and knew that if they tried anything I'd go to the RC and the RC would inform them about the years notice. The LL said they never had it on the market but that people were just "calling them up asking them to sell" and "what could they do when people want to give you a good price for your villa". We told them we were happy to have people come in and see the home and on four different days and occasions we were asked to be home to show the property and no one ever came. After awhile the LL stopped calling me about showings and started giving the buyer's agents my personal cell number and now agents were calling me directly about showing our house and would then not show. Our neighbors said this house was for sale for a year and sat empty, then it sat for a year empty while they tried to rent it. It was a wreck inside so when DH saw it, he negotiated the rent down and then we came in and put a bunch of elbow grease on the place and now it's a really nice house and the LL wants to get greedy and thinks she can bully us into more money. Yesterday when the LL's uncle called to say they want to raise the rent he told DH, "You know we had to take the house off the market b/c you weren't letting people see it." HELLO! You said the house wasn't on the market but people were just coming to you asking you to sell the house! And we did agree to show the house but no one ever came. So DH told him that and called his bluff on that and he backed off but said that now that they couldn't sell the house the LL has decided the rent is too low. GRRR!! Like you said, I'm going to sit back and take (some) comfort in knowing our rights and the LL is breaking those rights.

If you see them there buy several. It's where I always get mine from and I buy up a bunch b/c it seems if I just buy a few then the next time I need them they aren't there.

This happened to me before as well. Is there anything on the packing slip indicating the name of the people that ordered it?

Everyone says the same line about cars from the states not keeping up with the heat and it's simply not true. Five cars imported and all doing just great in the heat. And the one vehicle we did buy here in UAE had a sticker on it showing it manufactured in the US and imported here for sale. It just gets old seeing the same old lines thrown out to people.
