the standard agency fee for a renewal is 2000 aed , which is better since ur contract will be covered by RERA in case of any issues. But have never heard of landlords themselves charging anything. Its better to get it done through an agency i feel

you simply have to weigh your options very carefully. we had an employee abscond and she has been banned for life from entering any of the emirates. if you stuck out for two years , another year wont take too long. why dont u take a holiday to go and destress . problems seem much lighter when your away from them and this will also help u to take time of school. your fiance should also consider ur career and your future. these hasty decisions may bear very serious consequences and will for sure leave a bitter taste in your mouth, take your time in making any choice , dont jump from frying pan to fire. I wish u all the best.

it might be a mosquito bite. colleague of mine has massive bites on her feet and hands and they started blistering. mosquitos dont bite everyone except those with a specific blood type. its better to have a word with your doctor though as it is spreading and may be something u are completely unaware of.. hope u get well soon

What about in the mean time volunteering his skills to a charity? I am sure there are plenty of charities out there that would love some free marketing advise and it would be a way for him to accumulate at least some experience. It would also be a positive experience and might get him out of his negative mood. I can understand that it must be really hard if you have worked so hard to get a degree and aren't given the chance to start working. There are quite a few charities in Dubai that do not receive government funding, but do amazing work. He could try and find one that really suits him. I.e. he might want prefer a 'children s' charity over an 'animal' or 'environmental' charity. Dint think of this murtje. will have a look into this. thanks :)

He has a MBA in marketing? Then he should be able to market himself, oui? This post was in no way meant to poke fun at him . I'm being very objective here to everyone's comments . Obviously everyone who has previously commented have a very good knowledge and have experienced life here in dubai , both in good and bad times. and i really appreciate their straightforward opinions and respect it. if u get a kick outta all of this then i have nothing to say.

thanks for the suggestion waxmuch... never knew that mktg was a difficult thing to foray into here. will sugest advertising to him.. guess he has to just keep his options open. it is indeed quite a rough road for beginners like him especially since he never had any work experience apart from the one year in dubai. edited by KCHRISTINE on 13/06/2011

@ nutty: i dont think you need to take a rera course since ur renting out your apartment. all contracts and papers are as per RERA rules and regulations. If you contact the estate agency they will do all the paper work for you because (hopefully) all the agents are already RERA registered. they do a 2 day course to become licenced brokers. you need to also ask the broker if they are licensed and have a rera card. i am definite that u dont need to do a course. Its better to clarify this for your own satisfaction though. hope this helps

yeah tried telling him that but i guess (saying this in a very detached manner) that people usually think its easy to get jobs in dubai. i've told him this but he seems to understand at first and then goes back to worrying. he went to one of the best business schools in the UK. but i guess its just that people look for a lot of experience rather than spending time training beginners.

My lovely fiance is totally stressed due to the fact that he cant get another job. he's been in dubai for the last one year soon as he finished his mba and is a really smart guy but is unable to get a job in his field at all due to not having the decades of experience everyone looks for. he is working now but it is not making him happy at all. he's stressed and keeps talking abt his job and that he needs a change. i dunno what to tell him apart from "keep applying for jobs". dunno if he is depressed or what?. and im sad to see all his efforts go in vain. :(

Pedestrian Crossing rules which are enforced by the police. Maybe more crossings like the ones on Beach Road where they are a raised up platform where you are pretty much forced to slow down. Plus, patience to let the pedestrians cross comfortably without beeping horns and flashing headlights at them. I am a driver, but am embarrassed by the way my fellow drivers behave. so true peta. some of the drivers have no consideration. they will watch u standing there waiting to cross the road but will never bother stopping. arrrgh

was in the same situation a few days ago. simply cut the chicken into 1 inch thick slices and marinate in some yoghurt, turmeric, gingergarlic paste, pepper, cumin and any thing else you like maybe some red pepper flakes and herbs . add salt set them aside for 10-15 mins. before doing this preheat the oven. set the chicken out on an oiled baking tray . i also added potato wedges around the chicken and some roughly chopped garlic on the chicken. brush with some oil and stick it in the oven. keep checking, shouldn't take long as chicken cooks fast. turn them around of needed. when theyre done season the potatoes with salt and pepper. thats it :)

If you have a bbq or just an oven it would be a great idea to throw some kebabs and potato wedges on. extremely tasty and will be a sure hit. potato wedges can be slightly brushed with oil and baked. add salt and pepper to season. for kebabs you can use lamb mince, add chopped corriander ,mint leaves, green chillies, garam masala(little) , lemon juice, finely chopped oniouns, salt, pepper and make a mixture. you can add cumin, turmeric as well. To keep the kebabs firm you can add some flour or bread crumbs or cooked mashed rice. Make the kebabs on skewers and grill/bbq or bake. You could also make a mint chutney - dead simple !! add yoghurt, mint and corriander leaves in a blender with some salt and blend. optionally you can add a small green chilli to this chutney. great accompaniment . Have fun. Hope this helps

Doesnt matter if its a maid or nanny .we have to realise that they work hard away from their families and just want to make a living. Im anglo-indian and have been a victim of subtle if not blatant racist comments . very silly how people generalize a trait of a few people to an entire nation/nations.. come across this almost everyday. Jingly! chinky! etc etc. weird and wish everyone would just respect others for who they are instead of just judging by a common standard. sad ! its all in the mind
