Just bear in mind that pricing and charging can be a bit haphazard and your bills may not reflect actual consumption. After 2 years we still haven't worked out how my mobile phone charges work, and in our first flat the electricity statements bore no resemblance to the actual meter...

We have an electric stove with a fan forced oven (Indesit brand) so can't help you there, but recommend you also check Giant in Hyatt Plaza for more alternatives

Try this: http://www.aspire.qa/ASPIREACTIVE/Membership/Pages/Membership.aspx But bear in mind it can be difficult it can be to register per below posts - and as with everything in Qatar, phone isn't generally the best way to get in contact

When are you going? Bear in mind City Airport is very close to the Olympic site, so you might have problems getting accomodation if it's in the next few weeks. Close by there is an Ibis and a Travelodge in Canary Wharf, and also nicer hotels like the Marriott and the Four Seasons. A black taxi is about £15 from Canary Wharf, or the DLR is pretty quick (either take the Jubilee line to Canning Town then change to DLR, or take the DLR or Westferry or Poplar and change trains there). If you get the train from Bath to Paddington, a black cab would be around £50 from Paddington station to City Airport (from memory). I think it's pretty easy to get the tube if you don't have too much luggage - Bakerloo line to Baker Street, change to the Jubilee line, go to Canning Town then change to the DLR.

Jill did you use straight vinegar or diluted? I tried it as well (5 new furry friends at the moment!) but I think I might have made it too weak. On a separate note I've definitely seen mothballs in the past week, think it was at Lulu Gharrafa in the cleaning aisle.

I think the sling box will depend on your internet speed. They are in the process of rolling out high speed broadband here, but I wouldn't count on it. In our last apartment we averaged 1MB so streaming was not an option. If you still have a Sky account, you can use Sky Go to download rather than stream programs, in the same way you can use BBC iPlayer to download CBeebies etc.

Nope if you live in West Bay, you have to go to Al Khor now!! We were really lucky and our PRO did ours... I know not many do, but it's worthwhile asking edited by tamieg1 on 22/07/2012

You might want to consider schools before accommodation - for example if your daughters end up at Parkhouse, you won't want to be doing a school run from the other end of town (where Riviera Gardens is)

We have transferred them onto an external hard drive. Bit of a pain to copy them over but worth it if only for how much space you save! The hard drive is accessed through the main tv, or we use AppleTV to stream them on to the other tv upstairs.

I completed my degree in Doha online via an Australian university, you could look into whether Canadian universities offer something similar. Also the animal rescue places such as QAWS are always looking for volunteers.

You'd need to factor in transport as well - OP you said below that you got a transport allowance, but bear in mind to rent a small car is at least 2,000/month - and your husband will need transport as well unless he ends up working at the same place.

We live in West Bay and it takes my DH less than half an hour (usually) to drive to his head office past the airport - and the new museum is closer than that - so pretty much anywhere in Doha will be an easier commute than he is used to!

One thing to keep in mind with BHT is there is now construction on both sides of the building. They are both currently at ground level. We don't hear too much noise facing out to the Hilton/pool side, but people we know on the other side of the building have been very unhappy, especially during the piling works. Disclaimer: we are in the process of moving out - but only a 2br, sorry!

I grew up in Tokyo. When are you going? I've had success finding more reasonably priced hotels in Ikebukuro in the past - it's not as central but still on the JR Yamanote line so v easy to get around. Alternatively check if Emirates/Etihad etc have any partner hotels, they might have specials on.

You have probably realised from reading the other posts on here that it is very difficult to ascertain "reliable information" as the rules seem to change regularly. I think your best bet is to see if you can find out what has happened for any other recent hires. These things DO differ depending on your nationality, profession, and the company. If it was me, being from one of the countries that can get a tourist visa on arrival, I would come at the same time as my husband and then do visa runs until I was able to get an RP - it may only be a matter of weeks or it could be for the full 6 months. I would also prefer to be sponsored by my husband and work, rather than sponsored by an employer, just to avoid any exit visa or NOC issues. [This is also assuming that accomodation is not an issue'>.

Hi ladies, I'm due Aug 10th in Doha. We know the s3x but are keeping it a surprise for everyone else :) Flower33 how would you say the sizing is on the Mothercare gowns? I was there yesterday and they only had Mediums - I am usually a UK 12-14, just wondering if they would be ok or if I should try M&S.

Also keep in mind that school costs vary widely - from 30,000 to over 60,000 - so if your schooling allowance is only 21,000 (as I have seen posted by others recently) your monthly salary may not cover as much as you thought
