Yes I agree the side panel is way too wide. Has it got wider again with this change? Because it was quite wide before, from a few changes ago. roflmao. It's wide, so very wide.

I am wondering if we are all seeing the same thing? Posts are seperated by a line, quotes are obviously a blue colour and font is a decent size. Ads are annoying, flickery and annoying, but it's a 'free' site and that is what you expect. It seemed odd at first but it's looking more normal to me by the minute. ;)

Thanks for the replies. We intend to buy a three-day pass. I think that I would like to hire a guide. What is the best way to do so. Through the Tourist Association to assure that the person really knows what he is talking about? We did not use the hotel, I think we may have used the tourist association, it was listed in the Lonely Planet. Have you looked on Thorn Tree forum or other forums? They would have more recent suggestions, everything to be taken with a grain of salt, as with any forum I guess!!! ;)

we did this 6 months ago with less than 2 weeks remaining til our holiday and we had no problems. We had a flights (into HK out of Beijing) and an NOC from DH's company. We has no hotels booked, but DH could explain what our plan was. They were strict about forms being accurate but it seemed much more daunting than it was. Everything was back to us in the time they said, We paid for express because of our short time frame. Good luck and enjoy!

but the meter should automatically charge it, so they cannot fiddle it if you go through 2 gates etc in the timescale. Originally, when the taxis charged salik, their meters did not automatically charge it. The driver had to add it as an 'extra' at the end of the trip and then the amount they had added had to match the amount of salik that was charged through his tag. So no direct link through the meter and the salik charge. So they could fiddle i suppose if their passengers are not aware, or charge too little.

I am sure many people know where it is! We travelled independently through Siem Reap maybe 2-3 years ago. We had a great time! Everything was so easy to organise, we booked nothing ahead and it all worked out brilliantly. I think we paid for a 3 day pass to the temples and spent 2 days there. We hired a tuk tuk/driver which was easy to do, just a matter of negotiation ;) we also hired a guide one day, although in hindsight we would have been happy to just have the driver show us around and use a book or something for info, I guess that depends on whether you like loads of information or not, having siad that our guide was lovely and it was interesting to hear him talk about life in Cambodia (reluctantly at first and more openly by the end). We spent one day a bit further out visiting Banteay Srei (another temple) and Kbal Spean which you walk up to through the jungle to, it's a small creek that has carvings in and is quite different to the other temples (need your tickets for this too). Swimming with young cambodian girls in the waterfalls there is one of my favourite travel memories. It can get busy at the temples and there are loads of big groups there but the site is so extensive that you can find a bit of solitude, especially at the less popular temples. We loved Siem Reap too, quite touristy but good fun, cheap food and drink and loads of other things to do. We used the lonely planet to find places to give us info on the best way to do things. Hope you have a great time, very envious!

There used to be/are 5 different companies but now they are all as one. I dont know what the logistics of it are but that is the general gist! There are also yellow and green roofed taxis.

Was great! We walked in from the other end of EB and there was no problem at all with traffic or crowds, had to walk a bit closer ao there were enough people! Loved everyone out and smiling and friendly. Now the only question is, how do we get in it for next year???

I got a blank one earlier in the day, then the Arabic and then the English. I am flipping between feeling it's a lovely gesture and it's a bit odd. What will the next one say?? edited by TOLB on 02/12/2012
