thank you GoodMorning, I managed to download your file. As Monkey Face suggested, my next problem is creating the skype account.... hmmmmm, actually, I guess I could just ask my Maid to get her family in Sri Lanka to set up the new skype account and provide her with the login details, would that work?

I am trying to download skype onto my Maid's laptop but I am not getting anywhere (keeps taking me to that blocked page). Any suggestions? TIA You cannot download it here obviously. You need a Vee P En. Or you can send the .exe file from your PC to your Maid's laptop, may take a while though. I can't send the file from my PC, it would take forever I am in a non-fiber-optic etisalat area (whatever that means) it takes me about 10 minutes to download a youtube video! I don't have a VPN either and I don't really want to get one just to do this.

from what i've heard australia is very expensive for furniture and if you have room in the container and you are paying for the shipping then it may be cheaper here. we were money conscious so got some great buys on dubizzle (stokke set in fantastic condition etc). i would get furniture here but get bedding and baby clothes (bonds, pure baby etc) in aust as the quality and price are reasonable and i'm not as keen on the styles of baby clothes here. they also have bamboo products available in aust which are so soft and gorgeous for new born bubs. good luck with the move home. Agree. Get the big things here (Dubizzle is great if you don't mind second hand) and the clothes in Aus. I love love love Bonds.

I think there are some things we are better off not knowing.... Instead of spending money getting your water tested, why not get filters installed? yeah, I have been playing the ignorance card for a while... but a couple of months ago some dodgey water filter company came to my home and tested my water with some ancient mechanism. The salesman told me that I probably had lead etc in my water as it went really black.

Has anyone seen one in Dubai? I had never even heard of them before but found them when googling craddle cap. My 4 month old twins both have it and the brush looks like it could be effective. TIA

TruBlu i hope you got sorted with Howdra ... thanks Nicky. If you read my next thread you will see what happened. DH had to take her to the police station yesterday. It was awful but thankfully they didn't lock her up. She will be banned and deported which is punishment enough IMO.

Here is an idea, speak to her face to face, ask the owner of the agency to be there, tell her if she admits to stealing you wont file a case and the owener of the agency can ban and send her home, if again she says she didnt steal it then I would be calling the police. Harsh but if she is so brazen to steal like that then she needs to be taught a lesson. She admitted to stealing the money about an hour ago during her interview with the Owner (although she only admitted to stealing 100). When asked why, she told him that I didn't feed her or giver her a food allowance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me, I have given her money for food, money for extra hours worked and more. We were her first client in Dubai (actually we were her first client ever as she had never left the Philipines), she arrived in January and started with us immediately, she had it good with us... she just didn't realize it. edited by Tru Blu on 15/04/2012

I don't think you should go to the police, you should leave this to the agency. They can deport her and put a block /ban on her without you getting involved. You don't need this in your life, i would move on, get a new maid from the agency. The agency needs to deal with this in their own way, as someone stated that is why you pay them, it is not for you to set an example to the other employees of this company . The agency owner needs to manage and educate his staff not you Walk away, and regardless of how it should be never leave valuables/wallets lying around when people from poorer nations/backgrounds struggling to make a living are in your house. Just move on and take it as a lesson learnt, trust is not always mutual. edited by Lolacat on 15/04/2012 I do feel the same as you in much of what you have said. But the owner really is putting on the pressure for us to help - he claims it is not that easy to put a ban on her without our assistance, and ultimately that is what he wants to do. As some posters have pointed out, if we don't make sure she is banned then she will be back doing this to someone else in no time. By the way, I really don't leave things laying around. We have a safe for valuables and every night I make a point to move DH's wallet and my purse to our bedroom to avoid night time temptation.

What's the point of hiring via an agency, if you have to stay involved in these things? She is their responsibility, let them handle it instead of you doing the "dirty work" for them. That's what you are paying them for anyway. If you had wanted to be involved in cases like this, you wouldn't have gone through all the extra expenses an agency brings. yes, part of my definitely feels this way. I know DH is annoyed with the extra work that this has all brought. But as someone else has stated, maybe the agency feels that the police won't follow it up if you, as the victim of the crime, don't report it yourself - otherwise, if the agency reports it, it's only hearsay and the maid can say they're lying about her because they have it in for her. edited by simpleasabc on 15/04/2012 Yes, I know, you are right. It's just a messy situation that we don't really need right now.

Can i play the devils advocate here : what hard proof do you have that she stole the money ? The reason I am asking is tha the police "may" ask, i woudl hate for you to go through a huge scene only for them to drop the charges. For what it is worth i think you need to report this to the police, would you take it so lightly if a shop assistant gave you less 500aed in your change ? hard thing for you to do but once a theif always a thief ...................... I guess I don't have any hardcore proof although I am 100% positive. We let her leave the house, knowing full well that she had atleast 500 on her. At that stage, I was adamant that I didn't want to involve the police. I am changing my mind though.

Go to the police and have her banned. Think about her next victims. Whether its 500 or 5000, its theft. She is a thief and should be held accountable. thanks shellly x

You have a responsibility to report it to the Agency, but I'm not sure whether going to the police is your responsibility or the Agency's. It seems to me the Agency needs to be involved in going to the police as well. they will be involved. Dave has made that clear.

Is she a live in agency maid or does she also work for other people? live in Agency - but a temp one. I just needed an extra set of hands for a few months as my house is full of kids!!! I also have a full time live in who we sponsor ourselves, but it was not her who stole, I am 100% sure.

Sorry to hear this, i hope you get things sorted !!! So far our Howdra maid just seems to help herself to the chocolate in my fridge, but i will now be more careful Nickym, I am sure your Maid is fine. I think the majority of them are decent people who are here to make an honest living. I am really shocked at what has happened and I really liked this young lady. I wonder how long she has been stealing from us for. I have newborn twins at the moment and so my mind is a bit frazzled but I became suspicious during the week when I knew exactly how much money was in my purse and then suddenly (when I went to pay for a delivery) some was gone. It played on my mind for a couple of days and then I decided to test her. edited by Tru Blu on 14/04/2012

What has the maid done? Perhaps call the cops if Howdra not answering.... or at least text them and tell them that; may get a quicker response if they think that one of their employees is going to be arrested. We were just thinking the same thing.... She is stealing money out of my purse. I have baited her twice in the last 24 hours and she has taken the bait both times!!!! We haven't told her that we know yet, although steam is coming out of DH's ears - he just wants to confront her, but I have so far managed to convince him that it is better if the Agency is aware before we do anything. I am happy to threaten to call the cops on her, but I won't actually do it.

Thankfully there are still a few people like you around willing to help a stranger. I hope you see this woman today and figure out what assistance she may need and you can give. Please keep us informed I agree. Good one you! My mum has told me several times that she was in a shopping centre somewhere in Perth and this woman was walking around in her pyjamas looking confused. My mum really wanted to ask her if she needed help but was too scared/embarassed or whatever. She has always regretted it. These days she is the first to make sure things are okay.

also tell her she is not to go in to anyones room (bedroom) if they are in there. This works well for us, if I'm in my bedroom Im either sleeping or dressing so really don't need someone else in there! Agree. It personally doesn't bother me if the Maid is in the bedrooms while we are, however given what you have described below, I think it is a good idea for you to enforce.

No, I don't think you can spoil a newborn. Try and get your hands on a book or dvd called "Happiest Baby on the Block" by Dr. Harvey Karp, he covers the issues that you outline. edited by Tru Blu on 03/04/2012

More expensive than Spinneys but excellent quality, really, much better than anything at Spinneys. We get all our steaks and lamb from there and the sausages are delicious. But no pork products, unfortunately. While more expensive it's not that much more expensive. edited by Tallybalt on 27/03/2012 Great, thanks. I will definitely give it a try.:)

I had my first in Australia and there it is pretty standard to wait until 12 weeks. I had my other children here in Dubai and they seem to want to scan you early and more frequently. Personally, I think it is good to wait until 12 weeks, unless you are experiencing any discomfort etc...

Trublu I think I'm going to need your advice...I have just discovered I am pregnant with twins, my eldest is 2 and youngest is less than 1. I had the same reaction as you when I found out but am coming round to the idea now and will always appreciate what I have and what others spend so long trying for. Still early days so have to survive first trim, rest of pregnancy and then the delivery. Anyway words of wisdom are much appreciated :) Hi triomul. If you want to chat let me know and I will post my email address. Having four under four brings crazy days, but I just keep trying to look at the big picture. I have kind of accepted that the next few years are going to be pretty wearing but then after that, it should get a lot easier. I will have four children very close in age who can play together and will have similar interests (I hope). Plus, one school run in later years!!!! As with reynee11, my biggest challenge right now is my eldest (3.5 years - he is going through the whole "threenager" thing and just about tipping me over the edge. Triomul, one big thing that you have on your side now is that you have experience with newborns and babies. Gosh, if the twins had happened to me first time around I would not have known what was going on. Now I don't mind a bit of crying, I can just block it out and I am better at troubleshooting when one of them is distressed. You will be the same. I have a wonderful Maid who helps me so much, I found her 10 days before the twins were born. Do you have homehelp?
