Would definitely bring them with you..they are 20% approx more expensive here, which if you take into consideration there is no VAT, they should be 20% cheaper! Find they have sizes but often not current season stuff, also tend to have clothes suited to all here which would not be on sale back in Uk, eg, long floor length skirts.

Ha Ha...when I first arrived here and had to do the dreaded set up accounts stuff at a bank familiar to us of Uk origins...actually sat in the room with the advisor while her phone rang off the hook and she just ignored it...wanted to grab it myself. When it came to the time when I had to get a hold of her or indeed anyone at the bank, I knew what it felt like. I now call the number on the card and try them first...their customer service is non existent and if it was not for the hassle would change in a minute!

Thanks for that...in West bay right now we have 4MB..and yes we do actually have that during the day at least..slows down at night when more people home. Have no issues with skype , use it a lot, so gutted to hear others say it is not working. I am in old house, was sure it had cables put in by Noah....and was moving to a newly built compound with fibre optic state of the art cables so it would all be better....how wrong was I....did not factor in the exchange location. Still, hardly like we are living out in the boonies??!!

Kimmac...moving up to that new al rayyan compound soon beside you...now thinking about the internet connection...Qtel said we are so far from an exchange that the top speed will be 2MB...yet they told someone else it will be 8MB....in doha?!!! What kind of speed do you get, compared to what you pay for? People who are already up there are on 1MB right now until they take on the Qtel contract and are able to upgrade. Browsing is fine, but skype not working well, possibly due to low speed/bandwidths. I am not willing to pony up for higher speed and then never get it for the contract term. TIA

Kitchen stuff is easy to find..would bring nik-naks if you like that kind of thing as not much selection here....not much difference with price of small kitchen things compared to UK, but with more expensive things then it is worth bringing if you have an allowance. Unless you know the size of your bed, sheet size can be dodgy as so many different sizes of bed mattresses here. Boots, Marks Spencers, Debenhams etc are here but average 20% mark up on prices and nowhere near a full range of stuff.

EMobil families will be leaving over the next 8 months as and when new villas become available in other compound...so a gradual exodus. Not surprised by what you said about Al Jazi re haggling...seem to have no problem getting villas rented, probably due to location, and often not willing to budge on prices. This may not be the case when so many empty though! Compound is great for families and no problem if not driving..... Good luck with the move!

ExxonMobil..who rent a large number of villas in Al Jazi are pulling out of there over the next few months.....it is a lovely compound, wide open streets, nice facilities. However, the houses are somewhat dated, in kitchen and bathrooms and the owners will not be upgrading them. Has nice pools, and supermarket and dry cleaners, bakers and one restaurant. Could be worth sitting tight until it opens up!

Agree with Gina.....my husband's local company here refuse to give out RP to 60 year olds, sometimes they sneak in under the radar if secondees though.

Hi..some schools doing brit curriculum..DESS, Doha College, Doha British Montessori, Compass, Sherbourne.....possibly others...sure someone else can help...search through qatar site, just by going backwards as search throws up dubai etc results...there is loads of previous discussions on these...school places at a premium..not easy to get...so be fast! Dogs....only seen them in compounds, but know people who go to desert to walk them off lead. Houses....mixture of free standing, compounds, high rises. Not sure about sports clubs...look up Aspire and see what they offer, sure there are more options. No public libraries that I know of.... Again, best to just go through the posts on this site.

Pretty difficult to explain the lay of the land in regards to West Bay if you have never been here....Doha is not that big, but traffic a ***** at certain times. West Bay is on the far end of corniche, close to major hotels...has many high rise apartment blocks concentrated in small area, close to large mall. There are compounds with villas not that far away. Tv roundabout is about a 5 min drive, up close to DESS, so called due to aljazeera and transmitter close by. Going into the schools would take ages on here, search for opinions...all have good and bad points..the most well established, time wise, are DESS, Doha College and ASD.These schools are very difficult to get into. Many other private options...range of opinions on them! Probably the longest commute would take 30/45 mins, depending on time of day.....someone else could give you a better idea as out of school runs now! Closest to West Bay is DESS. Sure there are other private schools nearby, someone else might be able to help you there.
