thx all! We've decided on Bice Mare, no childrens entertainment but having chatted with her mum, i think she'll be fine. Its a set menu, and while not as festive, i think they'll enjoy

Have to take some out of town guests to a brunch this weekend but one of the guests hates buffets so I'd like to find somewhere that serves the table, has unlimited drinks and has a bit of live music/or dj - so fun, and festive and children facilities for their 8 year old. I normally love Spectrum, Al Qasr, and Westin's bubblicous but these are all buffet! Please help! So do you still want an brunch type thing but without the get up and get your own food scenario? Yes, he's not a fan of the get up and get your own food, he'd rather be served his food - he has bad legs so maybe thats why. edited by xmasbaby on 11/11/2013

Email me at xmasbaby05 at gmail dot com I'm not hiring but my friend is. I posted a couple of weeks ago. I don't know the status but I can forward to her. She wanted an experienced legal assistant/paralegal but a junior lawyer would at same level - its for a US company too.

That's right SD, not my daughter though the other wee girl is constantly trying to involve my girl in these games and others. Theres a whole raft of other behaviours that have me concerned for what the child has been exposed to in the past. I don't believe she is in any danger now other wise I would have acted regardless of consequences. I just want to get a realistic view of what information or knowledge could have been gathered by the child in an innocent way before addressing this with her parents. (Who are well aware of the behaviours but not connecting the dots...though it's possible I'm seeing dots where there are none, if you know what I mean?) IF the general view is I'm not being overly paranoid then I can perhaps suggest a counseller for the girl. As it is, she is manipulative and a liar (absolute sirens for me) but if something has happened then she can be healed, but if it's ignored I just see the disintegration of a child and all the potential with it. glad to hear that you do not think the other girl is in any harm - thats a big relief.

Hi Xmasbaby, I would be interested in finding more out about the paralegal position. Wondered if you might be able to contact me by email hope5uae at gmail.com . Thanks in advance. I gave my friend your details. We used to work together (also a lawyer) and she'll send you an email directly. You can remove your email.

Hi xmasbaby, What experience level are they looking for? Would they consider brief training and a hand over? I would love to be a paralegal, but have a law degree and media/marketing experience, only. I've also got a commerce degree, but without paralegal experience I know many are hesitant to give you a go. Thank you for any info! Ideally they were looking for someone with a bit of experience but if you have a LLB, you would understand legal concepts you never know.

Just to add - celiac disease has over 200 symptoms. Most doctors are not even aware of these symptoms and still think that weight loss and diarrhea to be the most common complaint of celiac disease. And if you are over weight, they will not even consider it! Chocobella, most of the symptoms you mentioned can be related to celiac disease - it causes malabsorption, so apart from you not absorbing your thyroid medication, you may be deficient in iron, vitamin D and other important vitamins and minerals. so true. I was only tested because of malabsorption (top of my weight range) and have atypical symptoms. I was insanely low in iron, vitamin d, and othes. I am low to mid-range now which is better than before.

You might want to read up on the connection between gluten and the thyroid. Some doctors suggest going on a gluten free diet to reduce symtpoms. Also, those with Hashimotos are at a higher risk of celiac disease (some say undiagnosed celiac disease causes all other autoimmune diseases including Hashimotos, etc.). If you have Hashimotos and you see that your TSH levels are not going down (in spite of increasing doses of thyroxine), then you must ask your doctor to consider testing for celiac disease. But please do not go on a gluten free diet without consultation with your doctor and doing the right tests. I agree. I was tested for celiac and tested positivly after being diagnosed with Hashimotos. For those who asked below, I see Dr. Hubert at AH for my treatment here. I aslo have a doctor back home.

I am on both T4 and T3 and I feel great - for the first time in years, up at at 6am without having to drag myself out of bed! I'm more alert and feel quite "normal" again. I take iron daily - double dose one week, single next and double next. My doctor told me that helps to keep stores high. I still gain weight easily and if I indulge one day, it shows on the scale the next day. However, I have the energy to exercise so that helps.

Seriously people need to grow up and accept other opinions the reason these kind of threads get deleted is because of people like you who don't accept any other opinion but yours.. i will not open a new thread because there is no point talking about these kind of things.. please lets go back to talking about brunches and materialistic stuff... boohoo I haven't given my opinion on this thread and you have no idea what it is. Yes I accept there are other views and you are free to express them in an appropriate way. Gatecrashing a thread that is respectfully remembering a tragedy in order to peddle your own controversial theory is not, in my opinion, appropriate. That is why they get deleted and it's a shame... Ditto.

this will be my first christmas here on my own - as my husband of two years died last year :-( pity party for one, i guess.... That broke my heart to read and really grounded me. Last xmas I was with my dh, and children but away from my parents for the first time. I cried non-stop like a sap. I can't imagine your pain and pray for you to have peace. Look after yourself, cherish your memories and pamper yourself as best you can. Will be thinking of you.

walking from the subway upstairs to my office. I was in Canada. Passed a cell phone shop where cnn was showing the first tower. As I stopped to look and within seconds realised what was happening, my phone rang, it was my friend, a friend from Bahrain calling to see if I was safe (she had studied abroad and thats how we knew each other). I had just arrived home from NYC the night before and would had been at my office very close to the incident. I cried out of relief, sadness and total horror. None of us worked that day, phoning relatives in NY, colleagues etc. It was awful. edited by xmasbaby on 10/09/2013

They are independent villas that lack the community aspect of the typical expat areas. They are affordable due to lack of communal facilities, sidewalks, etc. Having said they are accessible to a lot of areas and are quite new. If you have kids, you might miss the community feel. We took the plunge for a more economical reason and I kind of regret it - we were in the ranches, and green community previously and the kids had tons of friends in nearby houses, the pool, playgrounds etc. We're saving a bundle though so in that sense its great! I think once my kids are a bit older and doing more ECA's it'll be fine.

Thanks for the replies. I actually think the set up and facilities was very good, it was just the service I wasn't impressed about :-) sorry, wasn't clear about that in post. Overall was very impressed. Whats the protocol re maids and the pool? Do you pay a day rate if they take your children there, just wondering as I could be riding there and wondered if it was an option or not as the occasional one off? The pool will definitely use on weekends/school hols, as mentioned I may be riding there (daily), and then gym/class if I can still stand ;-) and then casual dinners with family Thurs/Fri Thanks If your maid is using the facilties then she will need to pay - if she's there assisting you (not in the pool or working out) then they don't have an issue. Your needs sounds like ours, we often grab a causal bite to eat, use the pool, work out etc and in that case, aside from the service (which they are working on), we like it and am sure you will too.

We've been members for years, mainly because our kids do a whole bunch of activities there and we get the discounted rates (minimal) but once you add the member food discount, it makes it worthwhile. The terrace is generally slow and yes, the pool on the weekends are very busy but we still tend to enjoy it. Its leisurely and we also use the gym facilities daily. At times we also go to the beach clubs as well. I guess you need to decide if you'll use the facilities. The fact that you didn't think it was that good on your first visit, suggests perhaps its not the club for you?

I felt quite bothered actually - in a way I feel like by killing himself, he has circumvented his retribution. He's basically taken the easy route in my view. I think it would have been much tougher for him to serve his punishment. I do think the victims are sleeping easier tonight though and for that, I'm grateful.

My husband has just lost his job and all our vias are being cancelled as we speak as well as our maids. I've managed to secure a new job so my visa is sorted. My husband and our baby will not have too much of trouble as we can do visa runs till something is sorted but what will happen to the maid? Our son is ill and shes a god sent so we really dont want to lose her. Will she have to exit the country asap or is there a way for her to be able to stay? Please help! P.S If you know of anybody hiring within HR please let me know. My husband has over 10 years of experience.TIA! I am so sorry to hear this. Why don't you sponsor them? I did when my dh lost his job - the last few years have been tricky to say the least and redundancies are quite common and I think a lot of men/children have gone on their wife's visa at some point. With the maid, I dont recall having any difficulty transferring but that was about a year ago.

Alhmadulillah, blessed with a baby boy.. Who weighs 1400 grams today and is 18 days old.. I have been expressing for 14 days now.. 5-6 times a day.. Supply increased from 20 ml to 400 ml. I have a few questions, if any one can help.. Is this enough? Will the baby be able to suck, as hard as pumps do? Do pre-term babies gain weight if exclusively breast fed? Is formula better by any means? Any suggestions? I need all/any support I can get.. I am happy to hear your baby is born healthy! My dd was born at 33 weeks so a preemie as well, weighing 1000 grams. I had low milk supply but kept feeding (cluster feeding to build supply). I also drank Fenugreek tea and pumped after each feed. Over a couple of weeks, the baby put on weight steadily. She was never the same weight as a full-term baby but she grew steadily and that was all that the doctors were concerned about. I didn't supplement with formula b/c if you do, your supply will not increase. The more you feed on the breast, even if it means cluster feeding initially, the baby will eat and the more he feeds, the more supply you will have...Good luck! Edited to add, because they are preemie, they get tired quicker, so doctors had me undress baby when they fell asleep, to awaken them and start feeding them again. It sounds cruel but it worked and she would wake up and continue eating. edited by xmasbaby on 01/09/2013

Having arrived in the boom, we were paying 170,000 AED for a 2bed appt with no options other than to pay with 1 cheque. At that time, there were no lower affordable options (like discovery gardens, international city etc) and most people communted from Sharjah as the price points were better. The SZR traffic was insane and I had friends who were in Media City who would work until 9 pm to avoid traffic home just to get to Trade Centre round-about as it would take the same amount of time if they left at 6! Then the crash occured, more people moved over to Dubai and to give those an idea, - we were then able to get a 5 bed villa in the Ranches for the 170,000 AED. We rode it out and now it looks as though rental prices are back up there. I have no idea if there will be a crash but I hope prices level out to whats fair and not always based on speculation of the agents trying to make more money. There should be controls in place for this sort of craze. It leads to such a poor impression of the Dubai market screaming unstability.

I grew up on this stuff and (I think) I turned out fine. And not hyperactive. These warnings always sound like fads...next week it will be something else that harms children, be it food, cleaning products, or life in general. edited by Sakhifa on 26/08/2013 I loved Kraft dinners when I was a kid, and still give it to my children as a treat now and again. I do find merit in this warning however, because while it may have been fine when we were children, I don't doubt that the recipe has changed over the years, becoming more artificial. Thanks DiDxb for at least bringing to our attention so that we can make our own choice

Aveda Hair Products Agreed!! Was just figuring out costs to order from Amazon with shop and ship! Also, neostrata facial products. I have been using them for years and when I moved here, I tried to use tons of other brands that were highly recommended and realised it was best to go back to what I knew worked for me. Now when I go home I buy a years supply of wash, facial creams etc and bring back with me. Hi Xmasbaby, I just discovered Strawberrynet.com yesterday - they sell Aveda and Neostrata products and have free shipping to UAE. I am about to try them. Not sure how the prices compare to what you pay in UK, but for the products I have looked at the prices are very good. I haven't heard of Neostrata before and am always on the look out for new facial products that actually work and would be interested in trying Neostrata - can you tell me which of their products you use. TIA That is the best news I've heard all day! I use the oil free facial wash, the oil free daytime cream with spf and the toner. Start with the mildest one and work you're way up. Its quite strong and can sting a little. I started using it in my early 20's due to acne and never stopped. So I checke it out and they dont seem to have the products that I use. It might be this is their American line. Mine are quite simply called "oil free daytime cream spf" etc. It is the same line though as its same logo. It is a Canadian company so perhaps they market different products internationally.
