Okay, thanks, we are looking to move to a gated community in that area - glad to hear that you've had a good experience. We've been in the ranches and didn't have any problems (obviously still taking precautions) but she seemed to imply that was b/c it was inaccessible by so many others. I knew it sounded paranoid but then it kind of started me thinking...

We're in a gated community now. Just wondering for those of you with small children in US2 do you live in a compound or independent? I am just wondering about local parks, safety etc. A friend warned me that those of us in the spings/meadows/arabian ranches/ etc are protected from strange things b/c they are gated with people being recorded and gives us a false sense of safety compared to jumeirah and the like which could be quite dangerous. I certainly wouldn't let them out on their own...but its planted the seed and now I am really curious about everyone else's thoughts...

5 weeks, 5kg lost. I have the book but found the site great for motivation. Each day I get messages, and have direct email access to send questions when I have any. Its great. According to their timeframe, I should be at my goal in exactly one more month...YIPEE

The 10000 (5000 per parent) is refundable. No I didnt' have to attest my parents birth certificates nor provide them. They required my birth certificate, but this was already attested and contained my parents information. <em>edited by xmasbaby on 03/04/2011</em>

Heard AD was changing their fees back in November. We just did our parents here in Dubai and total cost as 13,000 for both. (10,000 being the deposits).

I used both and to be honest, I loved the PIS Medela. Ended up selling my Aveda. You could get second hand and just order the milk tubes (very cheap) and the pumps. I used to pump so much milk at work, I bought extra bottles and funnel things and it was pretty cheap. Its the actual pump thats expensive. <em>edited by xmasbaby on 29/03/2011</em>

you can order them online and it takes about 2 weeks to arrive. I had to order communion dresses for a friend of mine and they took 14 days to arrive from placing order.

I stopped writing RSVP after my child's first party here when only 10 responded that they were coming and 19 showed up, all nationalities I might add. I now put "Please contact me and let me know if you can or cannot make it" - can't be much clearer and put telephone number and email

which is exactly why the current events are unusual so to speak. Perhaps its because I'm a nerd or have a vested interest in them calling an election for those of us living here in Dubai. If SH's out, chances are, the visa bullocks issue will go with him, more direct flights etc etc which for me makes it somewhat less boring than normal :)

I was horrifed to see the same thing (albeit not at 100 mph) in the Green Community Motor City but instead of the child hanging out the window, they were stood up, with their head out the sunroof. I was shocked and that, even a little jerk with a child that young could lead to serious internal injuries. Honest to God, this isn't about education in some instances b/c no one in their right mind would think thats safe. Its common sense.

Went to DLC as well. A few years ago, I was very impressed. Went there in August and was really put off. Its starting to look quite dingy and old. I was a bit scornful of the hammam room when in the past, I really liked it (in fact preferred it) to the bigger hotels.

I have been here 10 summers. Yes, people find it hot but it is great, all the moaning people leave because they find it "unbearable" and you can sail around town doing anything you like at a reduced price. Everywhere is airconditioned so provided you are not a beach junkie then you will not be restricted by the weather at all Not so many summers here, but agree wholeheartedly. :) Been here 4 summers and agree with the above statements.

My mum's here helping with the new baby as I've had to return to work. I wanted to get her something special for vday tomorrow since my dad isn't here that won't break the bank (obviously nothing romantic!). She went for a mani/pedi this weekend so thats out but does anyone have any cool ideas?

Don't worry, be happy that you're taking the first step. It could be the water, (i've also started using that shampoo for desalinated water and saw an improvement too), or something more but at least after seeing a doctor, if you need medication, you'll get it.

I noticed the same thing last year and it was Hashimotos (your own antibodies destroying your thyroid) and actually in my case caused me to have an underactive thyroid. I am now on medication for that and haven't noticed much regrowth but definitely less hair falling out. I was also tested for Ferritin - which was at 0 - for hair to grow, your ferritin levels must be at least 70! I was advised to have 4 infusions which I did and now my ferritin is in the normal range. This is very recent, but I'm looking forward to some regrowth. I am also Vitamin D deficient and am now on meds for that. This ALL happened post baby so it could just be readjustment or aging - either way, all three things contributed to the hair loss and I'm relieved that I saw a doctor when I did. I saw Dr. Hubert - at America Hospital. He really took my concerns very seriously and I feel much better now. Good luck!

Besides most that were mentioned below, we also really like the Read at Home: Oxford Learning Tree books - They were meant for my early reader whose in reception but I'm finding the little ones are liking it too b/c 1) they are short 2) have lots of pictures to keep their attention. As it turns out, I ordered two complete sets (typing error), happy to give at cost if you want. Otherwise, will give to my nephew for his upcoming birthday. Its handy b/c while we can read it to him now, he'll be able to read it to himself when he's learning to read in a few years. There's 35 books in the set.

surprised many of you haven't heard of this - its quite common and listed in many baby care books. Its particularly common for children NOT drinking breast milk (ie. formula) as residue is left on their tongues that could lead to a strange smell. Breast milk, however doesn't cause this interestingly. Like the rest, just apply water on a gauze and gently wipe once or twice. Brushing your tongue as an adult after you brush your teeth prevents bad breath, and prevents your tongue from having a white pasty appearance - ew grose! <em>edited by xmasbaby on 27/01/2011</em>

Actually we submitted everything and then they came back asking me to provide my birth certificate proving that my mum was my mum!? Anyways, we paid 2150 for a visit visa for a maximum duration of 3 months stay. SueB - I know! I can't believe I voted for him! EEK
