there are no written rules for this. None that I have seen or know of. Officially you cant sublet but lots of people sublet and share to save cost. I have seen/know of families sharing villas and apartments as well as singles sharing rooms. I remember last time i was shopping for cloth in Satwa I even saw bedspace available posts on walls :( with regards to labour camps and places with lots of people crammed in. I feel sorry for them and wish if they can have better living. All they are doing is saving cost and supporting their familes. There are people here who earn less than 600 AED a month :(

If you move from one job to another no issues. You also get paid gratuity however the calculation is different if you leave voluntarily or are let go. so if you resign you get paid but bit low amount. The formula should be in your contract, Small difference between the freezone and on shore jobs

have a look at Marina Shop they have a warehouse outlet in Al quoz, MOE and some other malls. Another shop is pride of kashmir, they also have a warehouse shop in Al quoz and are in couple of malls. I would also suggest to check in carrefour, have purchased a few good ones from there but the good quality ones come in some times.

in my experience its not essentially the seller but the buyer can also have the car tranferred in his/her name via export letter at the Abu Dhabi car registration place. the only difference is to make sure the car is perfectly fine and will not fail the test in Dubai. if everything is fine it can be done in half a day. (all the process) recently sold my audi TT to a lady in Sharjah. We went to the RTA, she gave me the money there. The car was transferred in her name based on export paper. She drove off to Sharjah with export plates. If i am the seller i would not go to the hassle of going to the other emirates and doing the registration n stuff in the name of new buyer. my work is finished the moment the ownership of car transfers. edited by Zeynab on 20/06/2011

MY DH has a similar phone, i think these are called andriod which run on google, these are data hungry phones and are multi tasking unlike other phones, so if u open an application and then swicth on to another the previous still remains open. what you need to do is download an application called advanced task killer or similar and then use that to kill the data applications after you use those apps. edited by Zeynab on 11/05/2011

If you want something simple, there are some sarpenter shops in Satwa. not one the main road but streets joining the main road. They will make what u want in the quality you want, Normally its a compromise of price and quality. Its worth checking em out

I would recomend to go for a road trip on the following two roads which would give some nice deseert views and you can stop on teh side of the road and walk in to the desert. Dubai Hatta Road / Dubai Al Ain Road. These are the nearest desert. If you do Dubai Hatta Road, I recoment to take exit off the place called tawi niwza and drive on the road between the farms and the desert. If you want a magical trip. Then I would recomend to head out to Liwa (either mezzaira side or hameem) for some magical desert landscape. One Way Travel time is 2.5 hours, plus point is you can plan to spend an evening or dinner at Qasr Al Sarab. You can still have fun without doing the safari edited by Zeynab on 02/05/2011

Given that summer is here, u would see less and less cars on fridays as the temp soar up. Good time to see the action would be late afternoon. I have heard some people have actually driven cars there.

It's a no-brainer. If it will cost you about 6k to move, and you have a "known good" LL now, would you really want to go through all that hassle just to end up saving 2000 dhs and possibly gaining a cr@p LL into the bargain? You might try suggesting that you meet your LL in the middle and offer 74k, but really, what you have is a good deal when you consider all the negatives of moving. True already burnt twice due to bad LL.

I would recommend desert rangers have used them for all our guests if DH is busy and cant take them out (he is an offroader). They also have car seats for young ones and will bring if u tell em in advance. According to DH the safari companies have different route and types some a lower tier and some are very good and this also reflects which area they go to. Do check which area they go to edited by Zeynab on 20/04/2011

So our LL has agreed to reduce the rent to 78K one cheque for 4M. according to dubizzle there are some 4M and 4e which go for around 70K- LL is good and the service is prompt as he has people who could come same day if any issue with AC or Water or any major problem is reported. If we consider a new location we would be dishing the rent, agency fee and the misc so the move would cost us around 5 to 6K. What the opnion? Seems like a good deal we have here in this house for 2 years and needs just a fresh coat of paint. Is there any good LL here on the forum who can offer a better deal? My target is to get some saving as DD's school is starting and well the school fee is whooping 38K per yr

AC is major, whenever our breakdown or gas gas issue we call up the LL or his manager and ask them to get it fixed, so as the water pump. Luckily we have a good LL, his people come same day or within couple of hours if possible. Edit: BTW the typical maintainance companies are expensive (not naming any) and so far I have seen (3 different LL) they either have running contracts or history with some company from stawa/bur dubai etc etc which turns out cheaper for them and also do the same quality work edited by Zeynab on 20/04/2011

i dont think this would help her, and you would be interfering in to their personal matters and make things worse. She can file a complaint on her own if things are bad with either police (if its very serious, i hope and pray its not) or get a restraining order or something similar from court.

agree with all, however if you are happy with her performance think about paying for her passport renewal as a good gesture or bonus, i know i would do this if I am happy with my maid as the visa renewal fee might be a good chunk of her monthly pay and given that they are all supporting families back home it would be a good deed. Just food for thought .. please dont banter me on this I would have done this for my current maid as she is extremely nice and does an exceptional job and my dd loves her too.

i second to wait for sale at marina (the go 25% off) or the likes pride of kashmir has similar stuff. Probably the supplier are similar for these stuff as I have seen identical items in marina, home r us some other places. Check the type of wood they use dont go mango as its weak and not long lasting. there are some shops which have furniture manufactured in chinoot and imported from pakistan (very good quality and long life) My experience of Pan furnishing is not good, quality and durability issues

My main concern is they are classified as villas but you have someone living on the floor above or down? is the ventilation/drainage/utilities shared? Does sound travel from top to botton or vice versa? Planning to check it out tomorrow if re-negotiation with LL fails today as rents ahve come down alot from last yr
