I am always amazed at people who walk in high heels in the malls. Wish i could also do the same :( but heels and me don't agree much apart from occasional wear.

Back home in Russia every woman wears high heels everywhere everytime. If you are not on high heels you feel yourself underdressed and ugly... My mother didn't even have any flats before she turned 45. She even managed to hike down the Grand Canyon on heels :)) And every American we met told her she had wrong shoes :)))) So ridiculous... I hate high heels and it was a daily torture back home. I was so happy in Germany, where nobody wears them! I still wear them to a restaurant, theater etc, but shopping or playground...NO WAY! LOL, after seeing my poor old mum's bunion-y feet from squeezing into daft pointy heels in the 60's, 70's and 80's, I pretty much go barefoot or wear flipflops whenever possible! I know what you mean...my mother has spent a fortune at the podiatrist after decades of wearing heels. Now she can't walk for long without pain and she's only in her mid-60s.

even i am thinking of investing in a pair which has atleast 2 inch heels for some occassions :) thanks for posting. i also walk very fast and find it tiring if i have to walk slowly...at time of my marriage my photographer was saying again and again to walk slowly..groom will not run away but after some attempts he stopped saying :D whenever we walk my dh is always way behind me and i just run with the stroller.

Thanks for posting back. Will check them out. In the meantime I found some really comfy but pretty and elegant ones. 1 inch heels! Anne Klein is the brand, I bought them in Jumeirah Town Centre (next to Mercato). Paid 275, not bad at all ? edited by Oopsiedaisy on 02/04/2013 edited by Oopsiedaisy on 02/04/2013

I never wear high heels. I'm tall enough as it is, and I don't like to walk slowly lol. High heels look nice when a woman can rock them, but really if you're strutting around with bent legs because you can't walk straight... Flats please!

Same here. Anything higher than two inches (5cm) is no longer an option for me if I have to walk. But Ferragamo makes great shoes with reasonable heels that are quite elegant at the same time. They are expensive, but are comfortable and last a long time.

I think that lower, thicker heels are coming back in style. Saw some Italian ones, very bright colors, can't remember the brand, but kind of expensive.

Ti thread has Made me feel good!i thought everyone but me wore heels all the time! Me too! I always feel underdressed, wherever I look I see women wearing high heels. Shoe shops seem to sell only high heels or flats. Where can I find elegant shoes with only a 1 or 2 inch heel? And please don't tell me that's an oxymoron because it works for me.

I think it's fair to say Russian women often enjoy bringing in a bit of glamour into everyday life and high heels are part of it - but "everywhere everytime"? I dare say it's slightly overstating it :) Your mother sounds more like an exception than a general rule and I'll bet you my last pair of Louboutins that vast majority of Russians would find hiking on heels as ridiculous as you do :) I agree you may feel underdressed without heels if you go out in Russia (at least in Moscow), and often you'd be indeed as many nightspots won't let you in unless you are wearing a pair of stilettos, but that's the only example (selected night clubs) I can think of. Personally, I love heels and I'd still wear them during the day sometimes when I feel like glamming it up a bit, but due to present lifestyle flats remain my main footwear these days.

I love heels and rediscovered them when I found the Nike Cole Haan range. I don't wear heels as much as I used to when younger - somehow never got back to a 24-7 heels lifestyle post-pregnancy - and pay more attention to fit, steadiness, quality, etc.

My heels are saved for special outings and parties where walking is minimal. Don't know how people wear them to walk around the mall. They must not be pushing strollers or picking up their weekly/monthly grocery with little ones in tow. And if they are, whoohoo more power to them! yeah true...i am tired in my running shoes sometimes :) pushing the stroller and then walking with the toddler is no fun. i always keep atleast 2 pairs in car and one more pair of flats in the stroller. don't know which becomes uncomfortable after some time ;)

Since moving here nearly 6 years ago, I never bothered with heels! Loved my flats. Last year in a shop a pair of heels caught my eye and it was love at first sight. Bought them, decided to wear them on a night out. Luckily enough I hadn't had much to drink. On leaving the establishment, chatting away as you do, I slipped and ended up on my back in the foyer of the hotel!! How embarrassing!!! (so glad I had trousers on as well) If I was in my flats, that would never have happened!! Have worn them since but tread very carefully :D Don't know how these women do it!

Finally back in my heels after pregnancy and I have missed them! But also have forgotten how uncomfortable they are! Had 4 pairs ballet flats and 4 pairs flip flops that saw me through pregnancy, felt like a midget. Not sure my gold stilettoes are very "mumsy" tho! lol :) I think a balance is key. Like others, I only wear heels - and not really high ones at that - on special occasions when I know I don't have to stand around AND when I can taxi-restaurant-taxi-home, so to speak. Apparently Sarah Jessica Parker's feet are completely ruined courtesy of the years she spent trotting around in 5-inch Manolos/Choos/Louboutins/no-names and SHE was tiny and wasn't exactly carrying a lot of weight on said heels. Unlike me. Sigh.

A quick look around my children's school at pick up time will tell you that uber-glam is the new mumsy. I'm still slumming it in flats though ;)

Pre kids I wore 4-5 inch stilettos to work every day with no problems. Seven years no working and I sometimes manage to fall off my flip flops :( edited by Daza on 21/03/2013
