DIY hair chalk

Many of us have experienced the horror that comes with bad hair dye jobs. Hair chalking is a great way to dye your hair without committing to it. Even though hair chalking is too much of a hassle for your whole hair, it is a fun way to get coloured tips. Here’s the lowdown on hair chalking:

1. The first step is to gather the things you will need: non- oil pastel chalks/hair chalk in the colour you wish, a water bottle, protective gloves, towels and a flat iron.

2. If you are brunette - wet the tips of your hair slightly, if you are blonde - let your hair remain dry (otherwise it will be difficult to take the hair colour off). Drape your shoulders with a towel to avoid staining your clothes.

3. Apply to the chalk to the strand of hair in a downward motion: twist the hair as you chalk. If the colour you are applying isn’t vibrant enough – start with applying white chalk first. The subsequent colour will be much more vibrant. This tip is particularly useful for brunettes.

4. Let your hair air dry – blow-drying it could take off some of the colour.

5. Once your hair is completely dry – use a flat iron/curling iron to style it. This will lock in the colour.

All done!
