Did you know that 55% of the population between 20-40 suffer from acne? Getting pimples when you are well out of your teens can happen because of a number of reasons and clogged pores is a major one.
When pores are clogged with sebum and dead skin cells they can develop into pimples and can also eventually become dilated and stay that way long-term, leading to enlarged pores (yuck!).
Read on to find out what common habits cause clogged pores.
1. Not washing your face before bed
Even if you haven't applied makeup, it is important to wash your face every night to get rid of the bacteria and oil buildup that could clog your pores.
2. Not exfoliating your face
You don't need to exfoliate every day, but a weekly exfoliation will help you get rid of dead skin that can clog up your pores.
3. Touching your face
Bacteria is everywhere - even on your hands. So touching your face or even resting your face on your hand can result in clogged pores.
4. Not washing your bedsheets and makeup brushes
Both of these come in direct contact with your face; both are a breeding ground for bacteria; both should be washed regularly!
5. Tanning
While that bronzey glow you get from baking in the sun for hours looks amazing, the clogged pores you get do not. Tanning causes the skin collagen to degrade by ultraviolet exposure which makes pores larger and more saggy.
Do your skin favour and stick to fake tanning.
