Diamonds are the rarest and most sought-after gemstones in the world. And no we are not talking about celebrity diamond engagement rings. Those diamonds have got nothing on the most expensive diamonds in the world. Most of these precious stones are in fact, rarely ever worn - they are simply treasured. We, at Fergus James, bring you a list of the top 5 most expensive diamonds in the world.

5. The ‘Unique Pink’ - Sold by Sotheby’s - $31.56 million

A 15.38ct pink diamond described as being “simply astonishing” – for that price Fergus James would assume that you’d be expecting something uber special! Boasting a strong hue coupled with exceptional transparency, the Unique Pink was mined near Kimberley in South Africa before being cut and polished by Cora International. Do you think that the person who found got the afternoon off?

This 10.10-carat, oval shaped, internally flawless, fancy vivid blue diamond was part of the Millennium Jewels collection, unveiled by De Beers in 2000 to commemorate the millennium, and displayed at London’s Millennium Dome. This 12.03ct fancy vivid blue diamond was purchased by a Chinese billionaire, Joseph Lau, for his 7-year-old daughter Josephine Lau…..I wonder if she wears it to her friend's birthday parties! The cost per carat of this diamond is actually more than the Oppenheimer (see below) at a staggering $4.02 million per carat.
