Yesterday at Paris Fashion Week Men’s, the Californian brand UGG collaborated with Parisian fashion brand Y/Project to create multi-layered and over- the -knee Ugg boots.

The noughties sheepskin style boots were given an interesting revamp for the runway, as “ugly” shoes are officially making a comeback in 2018!

Unlike Paris Hilton’s pairing of Ugg boots and a velour tracksuit, Glenn Martens, the creative director of Y/Project, presented his deconstructed streetwear collection with an extreme height version of the classic tan Ugg boot. The slouchy, thigh-high style is said to enhance Ugg boots best quality, their comfort!

Based on the Australian ugg boot design, Ugg boots have been identified as a fashion trend for women and men since the early 2000's, but were often considered a fashion faux pas! Nevertheless, the comfy shoes are back with a high-fashion edge, with new designs of exaggerated layers, elongated lengths and even a series of fur-lined slides (which may be more practical for Dubai’s climate).

The special collaboration of sheepskin showstoppers may not be to everyone’s taste, but their debut on Paris Fashion Week Men’s runway has definitely got them noticed. If Ugg boots are making a comeback however, they won’t be cheap with prices ranging from AED 1100 to AED 5500 for the new collection. As Ugg’s new high-fashion status comes with the price tag to match!

Ugg boots are not the only “ugly” shoe making a comeback, with Christopher Kane and Balenciaga Crocs and the dad sneaker trend also becoming popular.

So whether you’ve got noughties nostalgia and you're excited to have your most comfortable boots back, or you’re a little horrified that thigh-high Ugg boots are a thing, the guilty pleasure boots are back and they can no longer be considered basic!
