Is this the best thing since sliced bread or what? A loaf of bread is not just great for mopping up meatball pasta sauce, but as it turns out, quite a handy cleaning tool around the house. And it doesn’t cost a lot of dough (pun intended). Try it in these sticky situations:
Clean spills during meals
Most accidents happen at home, especially on the dining table. That’s why it’s a good idea to keep the bread basket handy. A piece of bread will quickly absorb a spill, like gravy or salad dressing, before it soaks too far into your tablecloth.
Clean your coffee grinder with minimal effort
Coffee connoisseurs are a picky lot. And nothing upsets them more than grounds and oily residue in the coffee grinder. So what’s one to do when one is not perky and alert enough in the morning to clean the grinder? Simple – just toss in and grind up some bread which heroically removes the coffee oils and residue. Discard the ground bread and get on with grinding your beans.
Clean smudges off walls
Walls are to kids what a blank canvas was to Picasso. If your little ones have been busy decorating your walls with their sticky fingers, simply grab a piece of bread and gently buff away the fingerprints. This tip is especially helpful for painted stucco walls or non-washable wallpaper.
Safely pick up shards of glass
When glass breaks thousands of tiny pieces are scattered around along with large pieces. The large glass shards can be cleared with a broom but chances are minuscule shards might be left behind. Take a few slices of bread and gently press them around the breakage area and beyond. Even the tiniest shard will stick to the bread.
Clean a dusty painting
If you have paintings at home, chances are you are scared of cleaning them. You can’t use any chemical based cleaners or any cloth or brush to avoid damaging the paint. Thankfully white bread can gently lift dust away and make the piece bright again. Bread is chemically neutral and the soft texture does no damage to the painting. Be sure to use the soft white kind, not crusty sourdough or rye bread.
