Don’t have a large backyard or garden? Don’t worry, you just need to be a little more creative and think up some out-of-the-box ideas to make the most of your space. Here are some ideas to get you started:
1. Think vertically
Vertical gardens, wall pots and hanging baskets are perfect for apartment balconies. They take up limited space and can transform a dull wall or area into a vibrant centrepiece. Alternatively, terraced shelving holding an array of plant pots is also an effective use of space.
2. Choose double duty accents
Even if you already have your main furniture pieces in place, accents can make the space extra special. An outdoor ottoman provides a place to rest your feet, but can also hold a tray with drinks or provide additional seating if needed.
3. Embrace fold-able furniture
Outdoor folding furniture may not look very stylish but they get the job done and can be removed easily and stored for later use. Beanbags are not just portable but also supremely comfortable for occasional outdoor use.
4. Small is beautiful
Add elements that are small in size so they fit in perfectly. Keep small potted plants and Bonsai trees to create a charming little garden. Bring in tables and chairs meant for kids but are strong enough for adults. Or you can create a play area for kids with small size version of a basketball court, mini golf or just place a small ping pong table.
5. Go for a pergola
A pergola is simply a shaded area or walkway that provides a temporary refuge from the fiery sun while you enjoy the outdoors. A small outdoor area is perfect for a wall to wall pergola that makes the space cool and green.
