how to clean an incredibly messy room

Finding time to get organised and clean your space can be a real challenge. You might tell yourself that you'll get to it tomorrow, but when 'tomorrow' comes around and you've had a long day at work, all you can think of is crashing on your bed and leaving the cleaning for another 'tomorrow'.

If you feel this way you are not alone. For some people, cleaning and organising are a breeze (we're looking at you, Monica Gellar), but for others, it can be the most overwhelming task in the world. Whether you are busy or just plain lazy, the best approach to getting started with cleaning and organising your space is to take things one step at a time. Focus on doing just one thing, and from there you can ease into more things.

And the best place to start? The floor!

You don't even have to clean the entire floor - just start cleaning it. The floor is a great place to start cleaning because it will make the most difference when it's done, and won't take that much out of you.

Think about it - when you don't have the energy to put things in the right place, more often than not you leave them on the floor and that is how the clutter on the floor starts to build. Things being left behind on the floor are also visually frustrating and can stress you out immensely. Once you clean the floor, everything else starts to feel cleaner and less frustrating.

Cleaning the floor also requires much less energy compared to other cleaning/organising tasks making it a perfect task for when you are overwhelmed. You can simply sit on the floor and start going through your things - putting them into the piles of things that need to be organised later/thrown away or donated.

Once you see a cleaner floor you are likely to be motivated to keep going and if you don't then you should realise that you still made some progress and went from having a totally filthy place to a lesser filthy place. Every step counts!
