Working from home is becoming a major trend all over the world. If you are one of the lucky ones who work from home - you want to make sure your home office environment motivates you to be productive. You have to make sure your home office is an area that stands out from the rest of the house, but still complements it.
Here are a few tips to design a home office you will actually want to work in:
1. Let there be light
Do not choose a dark, windowless corner of the house to set up your home office in. Move your desk close to the windows, but place it parallel to the panes. This ideal set-up gives you the happiness benefits of natural light, and a good reason to turn away from your computer every few minutes to take in the scene.
2. Choose office furniture that complements your home interior
Traditional office cabinets and storage options, for the lack of a better word, are blah. However, storage options today are endless and you do not have to sacrifice form for function. If your home has traditional décor, warm wood and soft, comfy chairs or a love-seat are ideal if you have the space. A contemporary home office can feature artistic pieces or modern metal furniture.
3. Invest in a good chair
The chair/seating arrangement you choose is probably the most important decision for your home office. Choose a chair that gives you back support for long hours, but not so comfortable that you feel like snoozing.
4. Make the work-space lively and personal
Add plants, hide unsightly computer cords, put up picture frames of what matters to you, get cute office stationery - the options are endless.
5. Create some comfy space
Your desk is for active work, but you probably need a place to think or read, too. A great home office has a nice comfy chair for curling up—potentially with an ottoman for your feet—plus a table for your coffee and a great lamp. Add a luxurious throw and a colourful pillow and you’ll want to take thinking breaks.
