Keeping hard-to-reach places clean and dust-free can sometimes seem like a never-ending battle. Whether cleaning air conditioning vents or scrubbing toilets, allowing dirt, dust and grime to accumulate only leads to a tougher cleaning job down the line.
Here is a list of some of the most effective tips and tricks to help you keep your home as clean as possible.
Use painters’ brushes
They are cheap and very useful for cleaning hard-to-reach places. Tied to the end of a mop handle, they make it easy to sweep away dust from ceilings, fans and chandeliers. They’re also great for dusting pleated lampshades, window blinds and shutters.
Cabinets and bookshelves
You can’t see it but it’s there and growing. Dust and grime build up on hard-to-reach surfaces like cabinet tops, forming a sticky substance that is tough to clean. Wiping the area with a dry cloth only makes matters worse. Use dishwashing soap on a wet sponge to loosen and lift the grime, then simply wipe dry with a clean rag.
Use a lint roller for your handbag
Yes ladies, look closely in your Louis Vuitton bag and you will discover a treasure trove of powders, dust, hair, food crumbs and unidentified particles. For a quick and easy clean up, use a lint roller to catch all these hidden offenders.
Behind the toilet
It’s not enough to keep your toilet bowl clean. The area behind the toilet is notoriously difficult to clean but that’s where you will find a lot of dust, gunk and slime. The best way to clean this area is to use a steam cleaner because steam reaches even the smallest nook and cranny. Use the elongated spout of the steam cleaner to blast away at all the nasty stuff.
Practise yoga daily
Believe it or not, every year thousands of people get injured while carrying out household chores. Our advice- do yoga or Pilates regularly to keep your body supple and flexible and resistant to muscle tears or back aches. You don’t want to end up injured while trying to bend, crawl or stretch out to clean hard to reach places, do you?
