While you’re still debating whether you should travel this year, a 27-year-old woman is well on her way to be the first female to travel every single country on Earth.

Born and raised in Connecticut, Cassandra De Pecol is on a global mission to be the first, youngest and fastest individual to visit 196 sovereign states of the world as an ambassador of peace.

In July 2015, De Pecol left her job and family with a wrinkled map, a Kickstarter campaign, and the will to embark on Expedition 196. In 15 months, she has checked 181 countries off her list and has 40 more days to break the world record.

"In the summer of 2014, I quit my job and started executing my plan to travel the world. Through careful research, I found that no woman had completed the attempt to travel to all Sovereign Nations in record time and through this, I quickly realised that I’d found my life’s purpose," she wrote on her Kickstarter page.

Initially, Cassandra started with $2000 in her pocket, but travelling to 181 countries at this speed isn’t cheap. So far, she has spent around $200,000 (AED 7, 34,590) through sponsors and promotions on her Instagram account.
She is also an ambassador for peace at The International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) and speaks to audiences globally.

Check out some of the highlights from her incredible journey.
