If you're confused about where to go for your summer vacation and love dogs and beaches, Turks & Caicos Islands is the place for you.

Since there are no animal shelters on the islands, Jane Parker-Rauw took it upon herself to rescue stray potcakes through her volunteer organisation Potcake Place K9 Rescue.

Potcake is the name given to the dogs of the Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands. It came about because the locals fed the caked remains of the cooking pot to the dogs. As generations have passed, Potcakes have evolved into a breed which is extremely smart, loyal and loving.

You can cuddle with puppies while on vacation and even adopt a potcake puppy on the islands of Turks & Caicos.

Tourists can pick up the dog they’re interested in and spend time together to see if they are a good fit.

when your passion strikes you like an arrow through the heart, it becomes one with you and you, with it. dog rescue is part of me now and it's always on my mind, so naturally I had to visit this awesome rescue organization about 15 minutes from our hotel here in Turks and see what they were all about...and WALK PUPPIESSSS, DUH . this is Ceren, and he's an adorable, adoptable potcake. 'potcake' is the name given to the mixed-breed indigenous dogs of the Caribbean and it derives from the crust formed on the bottom of cooking pans which the locals fed to these stray pups. Potcake Place takes in hundreds of these puppies and their parents each year of the estimated couple thousand potcakes on the islands. they put them into local foster homes, adopt them out locally and adopt them out to America with pretty great frequency. they also do free spay/neuter clinics in partnership with other orgs here and from the states, which does a lot of good to help stop the reckless over-breeding of these pups. what's especially cool is their door is open for visitors to the island (like me) to come volunteer by walking, bathing & playing with the pups...or even carrying one with you back to the states if there is an adopter waiting for their puppy to be transported! the shop was buzzing with visitors when I was there and all of the puppies got walks. happy I got the chance to check them out and walk this sweet boy. thanks, Potcake Place! #youhadmeatpuppies #bettertogether #rescuefosteradopt #bethechange #livewhatyoulove
