With Kim Kardashian herself declaring contouring dead, it’s time to put an end to harsh brown lines across our cheeks and opt for a softer look. Celebrities including Gigi Hadid, Lady Gaga and Karlie Kloss are going for draping instead of contouring and it\s about time you try it too.

What is draping?

Draping is creating a sculpted glow by infusing two blush shades: one to sculpt, the other to infuse colour. The result is a softer and subtle healthy glow instead of harsh contoured lines.

A brief history

Truth be told, Draping is a fancy name for the 80's unapologetic blushed look created by makeup maestro, Way Bandy who sculpted some of the most dazzling faces including Cher, Elizabeth Taylor and Diana Ross. Bandy started the concept of colour glow as a way to highlight the natural shape of the face.

The technique

Like contouring, the key to creating the perfect drape is to blend the colours to perfection. A lot also depends on your choice of blush colour. YouTube beauty blogger Tina Yong has created a must-watch tutorial on how to use draping without making it look dated.

Products you need for draping

The best part about draping? You don't need to buy new products. Your good old blush kit will do the magic for you. In case you're looking for a celeb-worthy glow, Marc Jacobs Beauty has launched its Air Blush Soft Glow Duo line in 5 varying shades. The customisable blush kit lets you create a naturally sculpted face with a fresh glow.
