If you've been offered a place at JAPS, grab it with both hands, having experienced both schools you mentioned you won't be disappointed.

We went last summer. You will need a visa. Normally do these things myself but this one in the too hard pile so used VisaHQ. Submit on line for checking and a courier collects and drops off. The Great Wall is easy from Beijing for the day. Go early before the crowds and this applies to all the sights., We organised this through our hotel and went to the Mutinyhu (check spelling) section of the wall. Cable car up and luge down. We stayed in Courtyard 7 a traditional Hutong found this on trip advisor. Staff spoke English and were very helpful. We used the metro and taxis to get around. We had the hotel pick us up from the airport and arranged this by e-mail before we arrived.

The Armani Deli definitely has the wow factor. It runs from about 1pm - 9pm you choose the 3 hours you would like. The food is excellent, with first course similar to buffet style, you can go up as many times as you want, next course is sharing dishes brought to the table, main chosen from the menu then desserts buffet style. The service is impeccable and the wow factor being a fantastic view of the fountains with the music to match played in the restaurant. We booked day into night and now just about cool enough to book later and sit outside overlooking the fountains

Think the cut off date for moving schools within Dubai is around this time unless things have changed. Unfortunately you may have to wait until September, best check with KHDA

I have the old style 4:0 litre and I am told that the smaller engine on this model and the newer model are under powered especially off road. Can't comment on everyday use, suggest a test drive and maybe give some thought to the Pajero 3 door. But I do like mine

You can also mirror the ipad via an adaptor available from Virgin, IStyle, and is cheaper than the Apple TV alsoremoves that leg of the wifi. It plugs into the ipad and has a socket for HDMI cable and also one for power

Cathay Pacific have some really good prices at the moment, although does require a change of planes in HK ( user friendly airport). A friend has recently booked business class to Melbourne for about 8500 dhm return

From listening to the property show and reading on this forum. There is a 90 day notice period for either parties to agree to an changes or not, so does not seem as your LL has a leg to stand on. He has to give you 12 months notice in writing, notarised and sent via registered mail, at the start of the renewal of the tenancy. You will find links on this forum for the specific laws involved.

It is perfectly normal for children to seem to be sick on a regular basis when they start nursery/school, as you said it is being exposed to a different set of environmental factors. It will stop! As a former Nursery Principal, I would rather that staff spend their time interacting with the children rather than spending time writing daily updates. You should be able to approach the staff at pick up times for a quick update. Hope your LO enjoys his nursery experience

If you want to avoid having the Yellow Fever use Oman Air to fly directly to Zanzibar avoiding DAR. As you are then coming from a non-endemic area there is no need for it. Know someone who did this recently. Worth a bit more exploration

My understanding from listening to the property show is that any changes to the tenancy contract have to have been given 90 days prior to the renewal date and both sides have to agree to the change!

Dr. O'Malley is fabulous, anywhere else in the world I would pop a Valium before a trip to the dentist, unfortunately not here, but he is the most patient and understanding dentist I have ever had and does not carry out unnecessary work. edited by DM on 27/05/2013

Go and see the teacher to let her know what is happening. If things escalate put it in writing to the head and ask for an action plan! Children learn this behaviour and as I found out the parents are worse than the children... Shouting like a fish wife at my front door when she didn't like what she heard about her DD. Good luck and equip your daughter with strategies in how to deal with these issues as and when they arise.

Just listening to 103.8 and discussing this. It is a years written notice, heard somewhere else that it needs to be registered post. He also has to give a years notice if he wants to move in. He then has to actually live in the property for at least a year, possibly 2, if not you can take a retrospective case out with RERA. If you can maybe listen to the podcast of the Property show, very interesting.

I was lucky to have lived in HK for 11 years. It is a vibrant city with lots of culture to be found. If you are moving with a family check availabity of school places. It is beginning to boom and school places are hard to come by. Property is very, very expensive and a lot smaller than what is found here. Groceries are also very expensive. There is a taxation scheme, think about 15% but not paye, you will have to save for this. Most companies pay a Chinese New Year bonus, normally equivelent to 1 months salary which helps out. It may take 18 months to get into that system but there are generous personal tax allowences. If you are taking a dog from here it will need 4 months quarantine [at the last time I looked'>. Pollution is big problem coming from China.

Went to Tanzania/Zanzibar in the summer. 1.5 hours is not long enough especially if you need to obtain your visa on arrival. It really is chaos on arrival. If you have not booked flights yet check out Oman Air, they fly directly from Muscat to Zanzibar so a change in Muscat could be a better than a change in Dar. Malerone is also available at Emirates hospital but they quoted me 35dhm per tab. Yellow fever only at Al Mankhool. Try not to use credit cards at all, maybe pre-pay your hotels through a secure site and use cash, take US $ edited by DM on 15/10/2012

I live in GC and do not dread traffic, you get to know what are the busy times. This inconvenience is outweighed by living in such a community. The key is to plan and to be quite honest it is not that far from anywhere! How long now days does it take to get down Um Sequim Road from the Ranches?

I did not get any because of the distraction caused! Very stupid I know! edited by DM on 18/12/2011 ??? In other words given goods and receipt but no card, I was being distracted by said woman making conversation and did not check about the card. The staff knew though as soon as I walked into the shop looking for it. Maybe a warning not to engage in conversation at the checkout! edited by DM on 18/12/2011

I have cancelled, that"s how I know it was used. She was given mine by the staff and at the moment am being generous in thinking it was a genuine mistake, however she did engage me in conversation along with the shop assistants ..... so either very friendly or a smooth scam. So everyone distracted.... No card for me not even hers! edited by DM on 18/12/2011

Have flown with both and they are OK. Thai airways is the national carrier and Asia Air "budget" out of Malaysia. Far better service for short flights than Ryanair! I would be happy using either again.

You should do a search on here about unlocking and jail breaking the iPhone. If you do get it unlocked here I believe that you will not be able to update any new programs as it will lock the phone again. I have payg data package from Etisalat and pay 149 dirhams for 1 mg I think and I get the same amount free from Etisalat!

I have had covers and cushions +covers made at Damon in Satwa, opposite Municipality building. Reasonable selection of fabric and but bargain on the price. There is a shop further up the road using the same fabric books and is a lot cheaper, however the end result was not quite so good, although was a large tricky shape but was a third of the price and when I picked up the 2nd cover showed him a photo of the first, told me not to pay!!!!! And was quite amused when I insisted.

gardengirl, our house is in a small village called Montreal, about 20 minutes from Carcassonne which is a beautiful part of the country. During your research if you do intend to sell at some time in the future check out the tax payable on profit, it is on a sliding scale depending on how long you keep the property, but any home improvements can be off set against this. edited by DM on 14/08/2011

Have you done your research on this, we have had a house in the South of France for 11 years. It is rented out for some of the summer but we also use it. Consider the Taxes Francais, Taxes Habitation, wear and tear, garden maintenance, someone to look after the property. Do you want a villa with a pool? These come with their own upkeep costs. I do not consider it a holiday when I am here as we are constantly working in the garden or on the house. On the other hand it is a great place for children be there English or French speakers around. My daughter has 'grown up' here in some respects and the locals all know us and her. If you go ahead try and use locals for your maintenance etc. Puts you on a better standing within the community and surprisingly it is often the "expats" who charge over the odds. But I am sitting here with my glass or two of Rose and life could be worse!
