In the UK at the moment using my non chipped card all over the place, just have to explain sometimes that it needs to be swiped. Have been asked for ID once and UAE driving licence is sufficient.

Can highly recommend Dr.Kayeed at the Open MRI surgery on beach road 04 3422120. Do some searches on here and his name comes up quite frequently.

Never seen venison but picked up some camel meat in Carrefour the other day. Understand it is reasonably good for you compared to other red meat, needs a long slow cook so still awaiting in the freezer!

The Green Community is a lovely place to live. It wil only take 15-20 mins to school and both roundabouts are nearing completion so will make life easier. We have been here 2 years and are just signing for a 3rd. Children have a fantastic life here with it being safe enough for them to walk to the shops and park by themselves. There are also classes in the market area. You will probably find someone to car pool with for the school run. The only real downside is the district cooling costs but if you factor this into your budget (our loading charge about 700 dirhams per month, every month). Therebare adequate shops and a Carrefour is due to open in the vicinity by the end of next year. Good luck

Have you thought of a cover, this helps the problem, thin "bubble wrap" type. Have one in France and this keeps the water bills down!

Was recently charged 2940 dhms instead of 294 dhms at the Nespresso warehouse, luckily within 10 minutes they called me telling me of the mistake and even sent a driver to the house with the refund! Now that's service, because I would never have noticed, always scrabbling for glasses to check now.

My visa was recently cancelled due to company mucking up. I had to leave after 30 days and I am now on a tourist visa. Had no problems coming in, just wanted to know where I was staying, a question all my visitors have had........easy!

I also take a drug that is not available here. Initially I had a diagnosis here and was advised to see a specialist in the UK who prescribed the medication. The long and short of the story is I contacted my GP in the UK and he writes the prescriptions privately as long as I have a current report from my consultant here. I have spoken to him on the phone but do not have to see him. Bringing the drugs into Dubai you will need a copy of the prescription and I have my consultants mobile number just in case! I have been doing this for nearly three years and have a years supply each time.

As long as you come with an open mind, have been here 3 years and before that South East Asia for 11 years. Dubai has a lot to offer if you are prepared to look for it. Not everything costs a fortune and you make your own decisions about what your children do, my daughter has only been to the ski park once! in all the time we have been here. Look for the local culture it won't come looking for you. The museum has a nominal charge, the beaches are free, it maybe hot but get up early and go, the camel racing is free, as is the horse racing at Jebel Ali and a nominal charge at Meydan. Look out for world class events such as the showjumping and golf, they are often free of charge. The Abra on the creek is a dirham looking around the souks is a great way to spend a couple of hours as is walking the creek as well as seeing the 'old Dubai' and of course there is the desert at sunrise/sunset. It is difficult to adjust to because it is not home, the driving is manic at times but persevere and enjoy the experience that you have been presented with. Would be happy to talk to you when you get here.

Have no idea if it is near the vets. There are brown information signs on the Al Ain road and SZR follow these and it is easy. near the old camel racing track.

You can get them at the Falcon centre, Nad Al Sheba, interesting place to visit, lots of shops selling them and in the Falcon centre itself loads of Falcons to see.

I had my license taken by the police and the same piece of paper issued [which you must carry until you get your license back'>. Had to go to Deira Police station [opposite Terminal 2'> paid the 200dhm fine and then got my license back. I would be skeptical about Sunday as I went the next day and was told it takes about 4 days to show up in the system and it has to be in the system before you can pay and have your license back. No points given.

I ran a Kindergarten in Hong Kong and had this very problem presented to me, a Native English speaking child had picked up the Indian teacher's accent. The mother had no problem with the teacher or her methods. But moving a Native English speaking teaching assistant into the classroom did help.

Have done this many times with guests. Go out to the Camel race track just past the 7's on a Weds/Thurs afternoon and there is normally racing on. If you do follow the race there are a couple of things to remember, you must not on any account get in anyone's way, so you will need to follow at the back and off to the side. Dress respectfully [anyway'> this is a very local event at which you are a guest. If you have blacked out windows to your car you may not be able to follow. It's great fun and the photo opportunities amazing. Enjoy!

suzzi: We adopted in Hong Kong, to do this you will need to be a resident and have been there for 2 years if my memory serves me, you then have to remain in HK for 6 months until the adoption order becomes final. The adoption support group here will be able to tell you where according to your nationality you are able to adopt from.

If your husband is working at Jebel Ali you should take a look at the Green Community. The shops and hotel are within walking distance, especially on the East side, there is plenty going on in the park through the day. Lived in the Ranches also and the shops and golf club rarely within walking distance. There is a bus link as SalsB said. Also there is now an alternative to the main Jebel Ali/Green Community roundabout road where there is little traffic and you can come in the back way.

Greenfields Community School in the Dubai Investment Park offers the IB. Run some searches on here for the schools named and that might help you in narrowing down your choice.

CdnExpat It is often cheaper to take some time and look at what the package tours are offering then check the prices on line yourself, 9 out of 10 times it will work out cheaper to book flights/hotels seperately and a lot cheaper to use budget airlines if flying locally. i have just saved my husband and a friend about 2000dhms each on a trip to the HK 7's by doing it this way.

Had a long weekend in Lebanon for a wedding, Beirut fabulous and there are areas where you could be drinking coffee in the South of France. Also went to Byblos for the wedding a delightful little village, one of the longest inhabited places in the world. Will go back child free to take advantage of the night life!
