I had a very simmilar problem a couple of months ago, my 20 months all who had always slept by herself and for the entire night completely changed. Did not wanna sleep or be alone or would even sleep with me in the room. I was going crazy due to sleep deprivation, I had a nerves breakdown and could not cope. I was recommended to visit midwife Cecile at baby senses. OMG she changed my life. In one session she gave me advise which I followed and my girl was sleeping on the second night and we have not looked back. She sleeps the whole night, alone, no dramas and she wants to go to bed. She told me it might take a few sessions and might take a few days of sleep training. One session and second night. Can't recommend her enough

Chillichai, looking to hear from international companies. Mine is a very large MNC. When I was in the Uk I took 1 year maternity and when I moved here I got two months :( hence I am trying to improve, if other large companies are also doing it they may listen to me :). Which company do you work for? I would love to use it in my case, you can delete it after. Bee, still did not get your email. Thanks everyone, I am getting really good feedback

Thanks! Geordie expat And Kitten 67, could you possibly mention The name of the company? You can delete the post after I read it. I just need the actuals names as an example of good company practice.

Yes, so that is what I am looking to hear, which companies offer unpaid leave (or paid) over and above the 45 days. My company does not offer unpaid leave and If I can present them with examples of other companies that do that, they may then want to review the policy and offer it also.

Wow, they must have lots of holidays. We only get 5 weeks per year so assuming not a single day off for two years I could only amount to 4 months and a bit. Hoping to hear from someone that has more :)

I always use it. I agree it is a bit of a pain to fold it to go through security but I just ask them to close it for me, as I can't while I whole my son. Never had an issue and if you get fed up with it you just leave it somewhere, other ways just take it to the gate.

Due the 4th of December! I will deliver at the City hospital. Any one found any pretty and affordable maternity wear shops? I think I will end up going to Satwa and making some dresses for work as cannot find anything. Everybody knows at work as I have been showing since I was about 8 weeks! It is my second but first in Dubai. Congrats to all!

Silicon Oasis also has a pretty sever problem as well although this is my first year in Dubai. There is absolutely no chance of going out after sun set and my daughter is also affected. They spray regularly but usually while the sun is still up however it has little effect and they have never tackled the natural Oasis itself. Its a large area of scrub with patches of stagnant water which has gotten far wetter due to irrigation of the residences which are up slope! Perhaps they should spray the stagnant water patches as well? Yes, i also live in Silicon Oasis and we do not go outdoor either, we cannot go to the pool or park or even sit outside! It is just crazy and I do not know what to do anymore as we are being eaten alive, they seem to fog around every other week but I do not think this has any effect on them

Are you looking to relocate to silicon oasis or will you just work there? There are supermarkets, gym, dry cleaners, beauty salons, school, nursery... I really like it.

Yes, my parents in law took a rental car to muscat. You only have to tell them you are going to Oman and pay the extra insurance.

I wouldn't really worry too much about it. While most people I know are waiting for the 6 months to be up (6 months from ur last period date so slightly longer wait than 6 months from start date) I do know someone who got pregnant before and EK paid the 20,000 dirhams for the maternity package and deduct it from salary in 12 installments so it is not that bad. You can also go home just for delivery and even for some of the important scans, I did do that with my last child but then I was only 3hrs away so it wasn't too bad, I wouldnt want to risk it on a 15hr flight.

Thanks a lot for your replies, I hope i can get it easily. Sweet sugar, so you are saying I do not need a letter of any kind to go there? Because in the link, which is the one I checked says I do need one to get a tourist visa. I have called several times the embasy and they do not pick up the phone? Also, what questions do they ask? I am going to a wedding but I think it is too complicated as they will ask questions so just want to say I am going on holiday

I am going to China in August and when looking at what do I need in order to get a tourist visa I can see I need a salary certificate from my company (I don't work so I guess it will be my husband's) and an invitation letter from someone in China?? I am very confused, how do other tourist go to China and get the visa if they do not know anyone there? I have a European Passport and from my home country I do not need any of that to get the tourist visa but unfortunately It is not feasible to get my visa from there as cannot be here without my passport Any suggestions? How does everyone else do it? I am not going on an organised trip so just booking the flights and meeting other people in Beijing who are sorting the hotel accommodation out. TIA

My DS has been going to the nursery for three months and we are very happy with it. Facilities are really good, they cook fresh food on site every day, the teachers and assistants are nice and very caring and most important my DS is very happy there. Also unlike some other nurseries in the time we have been there, they have not closed a single day for training and they have extended opening hrs if you require so.

I used my 10 day grace in Christmas and I had no issue, however this was to exit on holiday as opposed to do a visa run but it should make no difference I found DNRD very helpful as they did confirm it was ok before I did it. He did explain to me that the day of entry counts as day one, not the following day so bear this in mind and also he said on the 40th day you do get fined, he told me day 39 is fine. Hope this helps

Yeah, don't say anything, some places are so paranoid about things like that. You will be fine in sauna and steam room, just make sure you do not over heat and drink plenty of water Just be careful if you have a massage, certain essential oils are dangerous as can induce labour. To be on the safe side if you decide to not tell them just have some reflexology or head massage instead I went to a spa day in another place and they did not allow me to have the massage I had booked but changed it for a different type of massage and the rest of the things I was fine.

Yes, like everything it reduces its nutritional values same as raw vegetables or fruit are more nutritious than the cooked version or steamed veggetables more nutritious than boiled. I am a great fun of pressure cookers and used them a lot. I second the tfal brand. I bought a pressure cooker recently in Carrefour for 295, I think it was one of the cheaper ones and I am very happy with it.

I always use extra virgin olive oil for everything and buy what ever it is on offer but try to buy the Spanish one. There is some truth to that thing about the toxins (simmilar to the toxins When you overcook/burn the meat i guess) Basically if you wanted to use it on your deep fat frier which I do and then reuse it, the extra virgin olive oil will not last as long as other vegetable oils or just normal olive oil. And it is not widely used in all the Mediterranean countries for deep fat frying because of that, in fact I believe there is a law or something in which you are not really supposed to use it in schools if it is going to be used for deepfat friers and restaurant wouldn't use it because of the cost,. However it is safe for any other cooking and taste million times better IMO I bought a 5 litre bottle for 135 DH is the Spanish pavilion at global village, they had an offer because they are closing I think in the next couple of days? The lady was very nice and she gave me her contact details so I can order the oil once they are closed, she said they would deliver it for free to my doorstep. I haven't opened the bottle yer but did sample the oil at the pavilion and was nice (even if the bread they give you was really horrible)

So, aun update on this in case somebody is in the same situación. She was supposed to arrive today but she did not make it pass immigration! I bought her a return ticket with airasia to kuala lumpur. She told them she was visiting her cousin, she even has an address and contact as she actually lives there. She is then asked to provide a letter from them inviting her over and she said something about needing a visitors visa. Her cousins madam is refusing to allow her to send an invitation letter so I am just furious at all this. She is now in Manila and contacted and agency to bring her here properly. They are telling me it can take up to 30 or 40 days to process but they told her around two weeks. Lets hope for the best, I have invested time and money so not willing to start the process all over again. At least I got refunded most of the price of the ticket from kuala lumpur to Dubai. So my advise to anyone doing this the first time is to get an agency from the beginning and save all the hassle even if you have to pay an agency fee. Such a hard work, I really hope she is as nice as she sounds... As after this I could not cope if it doesn't work out.

It was the Sunday i was trying to book her on and the emirates flights (cheaper for us) where all heavily overbooked so could not by a ticket. Thanks a lot for the tip of air Asia, did not know about them, the flights are much cheaper than the ones I was finding and the times much better. You are a superstar!! Decided to fly her here mid March as my in laws are coming in a week so will be easier to train her once they are gone. She is on an employment visa, since I will just have enough time now to DHL the documents, would it be better to send her the original or would it be better to email a copy. Is it ok to board at kuala lumpur without the original? And if she decides to go home on holiday, since she did nt exit properly, do you know if she would need to do some equivalent course in Dubai so she can then exit Manila direct to Dubai? Or can I just get from the consulate the OEC. Thanks so much for your help

She said just Manila. I found flights to Kuala Lumpur but then from there to Dubai all the direct flights are sold out and the others very expensive plus the journey would end up being 2 days or more overall! Is there any other country where she could fly to from Philippines? Thanks

Yes, I got her a employment visa, not just a tourist visa. It just seem like the easy way is to send her via kuala lumpur then. glenfiddich, are you sure she only needs a copy of the visa if I do it that way? I do not think they will be very happy here to give me the OEC if she has not done that training and she lives 9 hours from Manila so going to be hard for her to do it the proper way. I am very new in Dubai and my first maid which I took on someone's recommendation on EW (so have not met her) so I am finding it very stressful, and I want her here by Sunday!

OMG what a nightmare, what is an EOC? Went today to pick up her employment entry visa which has been done via my husband's work. To DHL the documents to her will take two weeks to her town so will send to Manila instead and get her to arrive a day early and stay at a hotel. I asked them about this new thing of training and he said she would be allowed out no problem, so now I am very confused as they told me they never has an issue with anyone coming from Philipines. Need to book her flight tonight so I can post it all tomorrow so I am very confused Kept calling again the philipines consulate, to all the numbers in the different websites and they do not pick up the phone!! Thanks all for your help

Haven't done it in the face, but as for the pain, I use an anaesthetic cream, buy in at the chemist and apply 2hrs before my appointment and just can't feel the pain! In a couple of occasions I forgot to use it and it was not very pleasant, but then, waxing is a lot worse.

We have been through this recently. My husband did entry on a work visa and had booked a car on arrival. He was not allowed to take it as his driving licence from home was not accepted as he was on a work visa You can only rent a car on a foreign licence as a tourist. But he will not be able to exchange his licence until he has his residence visa which could take a couple of weeks from entry. However since he will presumably sponsor you, you will entry on a tourist visa so you can do the driving until his visa is processed and he start yours, at which point you will not be allowed to drive. I was scare to do all the driving and was only doing it when he was a passenger, it was not that bad. Still have not driven by myself. I finally got my UAE licence yesterday and was very quick. I went to the RTA main office and took about half and hour.

Hello, I have not had this done, however I have had a consultation with a surgeon dermatologist at a very reputablle place and she did assure me there was no miracle treatment, and that stretch marks do not disappear. She said they could make them improve considerably but they would not go away. Having said that, it is something I will eventually do as I would be happy with just an improvement

We got ours a month ago and love it! We couldn't decide which mattress to get, DH wanted the cloud and I wanted the original. The guy at the shop promised to let us swap the mattress after a week if we were not 100% happy. And completely agree with DXBChica, I had one at my parents home and just had to get it as soon as I got here as I can't sleep in normal beds anymore. It is money well spent What do you think about the pillows? I can't decide yet if I like it or not, we got the cloud type for free as they had a promotion

absolutely fine. I called immigration as I had my flight booked 39 days later. They assured me I had 10 day grace (I think they said you would actually be fined on the 40th) When you count the days you must count the day of entry as day 1 as opposed to start counting from the following day We exited and not even a question asked.

I am very happy with the service from Ahlan. They were waiting on the terminal and he was very proactive running to all the ladies with a baby to find me! He did not have a stroller ready for us though, even though we asked for it on the comment box and they had run out of strollers at the first point but managed to find one soon after He carried my very heavy 2 pieces of hand luggage and we went into the lounge. Left, everything there, including the baby and took me for an eye scan which I did not know I needed for the visa, it took two minutes as I had a special queue. Then back in the lounge my son really enjoyed running around which since he is just a baby I would not let him do out in the terminal and I had a coke and some biscuits and dates. When the suitcases were out, he came to pick us up, went trough passport control without having to wait and the suitcases were ready on a trolley. He did then accompain us to the taxi and loaded the bags for us. I would definitely recommend it for mums travelling alone with kids. Children under 6 are free so it is not that expensive.
