We're moving out of our villa soon and have a date palm that we'll have to get rid of. Is there a 'humane' way to do this? Someone who can dig it up and re-plant somewhere? It seems an awful waste to dispose of it.

Smartee just treat yourself to a hairdo at SLAM and you won't regret it, mark Essentials down as a bad memory! I did that and I might not be able to do it too often. Although, I love everything about this salon But the prices. I am still on hunt to find a good and inexpensive salon for haircuts.:nerd: I've never had my hair cut in Dubai - how much did you pay and for what services (if you don't mind sharing). What would be a reasonable price for a hair cut? I'm very tempted to try SLaM but don't want to bite off more than I can chew price wise.

I'm not completely sure, but I think a new post office might have opened beside Union Co-op behind SZR (beside Wellington Primary School). Might be worth a try.

I bought last week in Daiso Dubai Mall. I haven't taken them out of the package so I can't vouch for the quality, but I only need them for occasional Dubai rain.

Thanks for your reply, The Swedish Girl. So is that all that needs to be done ... just a big cleaning twice a year? What about on a weekly/monthly/more regular basis?

Thanks, iveranodxb. Unfortunately I know very well from experience with our car seats how easily the light coloured leather gets dirty. The sofa that I'm looking at is dark brown and the seat cushions are fixed, so it won't be possible to pick them up to clean or to fluff :(

I'm thinking of buying a leather sofa from Marina, but first i'd like to know what's involved in the regular maintenance of the leather. I asked in the store but didn't find them to be very helpful. Any tried and proven tips/all advice will be very welcomed. TIA

Sorry I don't know when a full sale will be on BUT when I was in the store on Friday they offered me a 20% discount card that could be used for everything in the store...starting in a week or two. Does anyone know if this card is still being offered in the store?

Hi Nix. I have two kids at JESS and in my experience, they need: -- Lunchbox in any style -- Swim/PE bag in any style (they sell JESS branded ones if you want) -- JESS branded book bag. they sell ones you carry with handle or backpack style. In my experience the backpack style lasts longer and is more practical. It holds more, closes better and in the longterm as the kids grow they can carry it easier. -- I have always found white socks at Debenhams. They ask for all white sneakers but in reality, I have found them hard to find in Dubai sometimes. Mothercare often has them in smaller sizes. We are at JESS AR so I don't know about Jumeirah but certainly in AR, many kids sneakers are not all white. Hope that helps but let me know if you have any other questions. That's a big help, thank you!

Lunch/snack box any style (including water bottle) Backpack jess style Book back Jess style Above apply for FS1 children I took this info from the parents website. Thanks, calili1971. I did see the list, but was wondering if that's what the children actually carry. Seems like a lot for a 4 year old. And thanks for the Skechers tip, I'll try there :) edited by nix.dubai on 17/08/2013

What school bags do FS1 children carry to school? Do I need to get a specific Jess bag, or will any bag be okay? What about a lunch bag? Also, where should I go to buy boys socks and white sneakers for PE? Any other useful uniform hints (for boys) appreciated! Thank you

It was 95 dhs, and I think it is a 6 oz jar. A little goes a looooooong way. It says on the jar it helps with eczema. Lucky me! I have that, too, so will try. In the past, I used to buy what I thought was raw shea when I was in Africa, but this stuff is much nicer quality. So perhaps it will work whereas the stuff I bought in the bush did not. Worth a try, before going to creams like Dermovate (my usual go to) for a baby. Thank you! I think I'll give it a try.

Hi ilovewine, I think you should read the book 'the no-cry sleep solution' by Elizabeth Pantley. It is the most sensible I read so far, especially if you are still breastfeeding and BLW. I have a pdf copy which other lady from this forum kindly emailed me. I can forward it to you if you give me your email address/send me an email. I am very interested in your case, as [b'>[i'>I have a 6 months 2 weeks baby who is still breastfeeding and I have just started BLW[/i'>[/i'> [/b'>- There are not many ladies in Dubai doing this way so I would love to share experiences if you don't mind. Please send me an email to rchlmiller (at) gmail (dot) com ilovewine, I'm in the exact same situation as Nimonemo, would you mind sharing your BLW experience with me as well, please? Nimonemo, Can i also have a copy of the pdf, please? Many thanks edited by nix.dubai on 11/10/2012

Lentil soup couldnt be easier to make - or healthier! Saute some sliced onions until golden, add chopped carrots and one cup of lentils plus salt and pepper (you can also add coriander if you like). Add hot water or stock (I pop in a maggi or oxo cube at times) and allow to cook. I use the orange lentils and they cook quite quickly..once done just blitz , add a dash of cream (optional and serve piping hot - yummy! its so simple to cook yet amazingly yummy and nutritious this was a staple in my house during ramadan :) Quick, easy and yummy! I only used onion, carrot, salt, pepper and lentils. What is this 'cream' that you mentioned?

2 under 2 and I'm packing myself! ha ha ha. I am due 1st April but if last pg was anything to go by the LO will be here a couple of weeks early and potentially arriving very fast. I had a scan early at 5w and a few days as I've had an ectopic and misscarriage before DS1. Everything is where it is meant to be and confirmed only 1 (thank goodness because the night before I had a dream the Doc told me there were 4)... I was almost not going to go for the appointment for fear she was going to tell me this! HA HA HA. Next scan on my birthday - fingers crossed for good news ;) Congrats to all Awesome news, congrats! :) How far apart will your two be? Are you terrified? :D
