Jodi Sweetman!. :) We had a shoot with her a few months back and I wouldn't go with anyone else. Two of my friends have also had shoots with her and they were delighted. She has children herself so is great with the kids and her prices are excellent for what you get. Worth checking out if she has availability as I think she's always pretty busy. :)

Yes, Shirley Lawson did boudoir for my friend here in Dubai recently, she is from the UK. They are totally gorgeous and made me book a session for myself for January!. She was a model for years I think before she became a photographer so really knows how to get a woman looking amazing. Good luck. :)

but hey!!!! You cannot buy a hormone your DS needs to survive as it's illegal, but, you can buy VIAGRA over the counter which is very strictly (and so it should be) only under prescription back home. Is it just me or is there just something not right here?

Yes, it's a controlled drug here, that's why i thought it would cost the earth. My DS is on two controlled meds which I pay 1,000 each bottle here, every month and another 1,600 for a hormone he needs to take which is apparently illegal here. Can't even go home and get it and bring it in! That's illegal too!

I'd really like to know that as I made a post once to warn you guys here if a very dangerous doctor (who is recommended often here) and it was deleted by admin. I understand now that it broke the laws of the forum, but it still upsets me that I couldn't share my story of this person here.

I don't have time at the moment to read all this thread and the other replies, but, i wouldn't trust shop bought fruit and veg in Dubai and never have. There are a few great farmers markets now and these only need a rinsing. And guess what? The apples taste like apples, the lettuce tastes like lettuce and all the other fruit and veg actually taste like they're supposed which i missed when i moved here. The farmers market are organically grown, and they don't cost the huge organic prices as in the supermarkets. :)

You need to be careful with photographers in Dubai, there are a lot of photographers with heaps of money that have all the gear and fancy studios, charge a large sum of money and are just not good! I've been bitten. :( I had a friend use a British woman here who gave her tons of beautiful prints of her baby, all taken in my friends own home and garden and they were so reasonable in price. Can't find a website but found a facebook business page. It's https://www.facebook.com/ShirleyLawsonPhotography I think she's based in Dubai. Good luck :)

someone has asked a question, unless you are answering her question no one is interested in your opinion on botox! ''The lady doth protest too much, methinks'' There is a lady doctor next to park n shop who works from home. She is very friendly and efficient and tells you exactly what you need or don't need. I can't remember pricing to be honest but I know for sure it was very reasonable compared to other places since she doesn't have fancy office outlays. You go back after 2 weeks and she doesn't charge if you want more but she never give too much. I don't think I'm allowed to post numbers here as I did last night and it was deleted, so how do I let you know? Anyone know? :)

absolutely, my dress was a designer dress but I bought the sample in their window and had to have it dry cleaned and altered but it was half price! Then I sold it on ebay for more than I paid. I have the photo's and the video of the most magnificent designer dress, who wanted it gathering dust in the wardrobe! Go for it! :)

Tallyscot I am sorry to hear your DS is so unwell and really hope you find the right help here in Dubai for him. From reading your earlier post it sounds as though he has been unwell for some time, I don't have any psych recommendation for you but I really would set up some relationship with a good GP here and let them support and guide you. As a family doctor we use Dr Gordon Bland and or Dr Nicola Deamer, both are now at HealthBay Polyclinic in Uptown Mirdiff. Thank you Emlinre for your concern. I'm a cardio-thoracic nurse specialist and my DS's father is a Doctor (hospital Consultant). We don't use a GP for that reason, we have never had a need as we can refer, diagnose and treat most family ailments and if we can't, we'll have a friend who can in another field. :) My DS has a syndrome he was born with and has had treatment all his life. We are only here another year, and since we know nothing of the psychiatric side of things here in Dubai and have no contacts (here). I am just a getting tired of always going back and forth to the UK and would also have preferred he had someone here in case of emergency, like now! His father can prescribe medication but this is not his field and of course prefers to seek advice. Thank you once again for your concern. OK thats good, but if you found a good GP I was thinking they would be able to make the best referal for your son, as they would have a better idea of the good, bad and the not to go there ones. Hope you get some good help soon, all the best. You are totally right in some respects, but here, we've found it can be more beneficial to do your homework as there are some scary docs out there, including GP's. One psychiatrist which i highlighted to be aware of in the post before this plea for help, and it was deleted. Understandable that one cannot post slanderous accusations about people, but mine was not accusations, they were factual incidents based on what actually happened. The problem was i got too personal and said exactly what i thought of him! :) I'm not sure how to make other parents aware of this doctor now, i think if i re word? The scariest part is that he's well known in Dubai and a bit of a celebrity doing TV interviews etc, and if you ask for a recomm here, you'll get a few women recommending him:) Makes me shudder.

My DS was referred to Dr Rakhashanda Hassan of symbiosis medical centre when he left hospital last year. She treats teens and young adults. If ever needed we would use her again. Thank you, i was actually researching this doctor at this very moment, thanks. :)

Hi Tallyscot, Perhaps it might be a good idea to take your son to a reputable peadiatrician who could then refer you to the most appropriate specialist, Dr Khan at cooper clinic is excellent as is Dr Ahmed at Kids First / City Hospital. All the best He's no longer a kid, he's 19. :)

Any recommendations for a good psychiatrist in Dubai? There seems to be an abundance of psychologists, psychotherapists, therapists, councellors and life coach's but ,I NEED a Doctor of Psychiatry, who preferably works in a hospital to see to my DS serious medical condition. A doctor who can diagnose and prescribe mediction and or therapy. Sorry to be so pedantic in my explanation but i've asked before and people reply with names and numbers of psychotherapists and all sorts and i really am so tired of having to take my DS home the UK to see his doctor. Thank you.

i'm a regular sufferer, I just drink lots of water, about 4 litres and citrus drinks, put lemon juice in the water, if it doesn't start to feel better in 24-48 hours get it checked, but mine always do. I've heard bicarbonate of soda is good too but never tried that.

Old thread. Hopefully this is behind the OP and she still has her hair. No offense, but this was the funniest thing I have read in a long time - not the situation, but the way the OP described it. I had tears from laughing. Hopefully if the OP is still active she can re-read it and see how she took something so awful and was able to write it up with wit. ha ha ha Crystil, i posted something today and had another wee look at the hair disaster story. I honestly wasn't trying to be funny, i was still really upset when i wrote it, but i'm not one for saying 3 words when 10,000 will do! :) Update on hair, Tony and Guy did the trick, and the salon from **** paid them! I have since been back another once to T&G and sherin is really great, although at 800 a pop i don't expect to be going back. My hair is shorter, but not pixie length, on my shoulders now. I give it regular masks and keep them on a couple of days. Drama over for the time being, until the next one! :) Happy to have given you a laugh though, makes it all kinda worthwhile to put a smile on someones face.......ehhhh no! :)

Thanks guys, we're talking part time in a shop or a bar though, not for a company and i don't think we'll mention the year time frame. :) I'm now wondering if he can still sponsor her as he's my second husband and her step father? He's asking at work today.

My 21 year old daughter finished her undergraduate degree this year and is coming to Dubai to live with us for a year before heading off to do her masters. Does anyone know how she is sponsored? Does my husbands work sponsor her like he did me? Can she get a job when she's here? Is she allowed to work on that visa? I know that it's a different story with boys as my 18 year old son is now sponsored by his college and not his father, but still not sure about the rules for girls working. Thanks.

I think that you should call the owner and insist on reimbursement, not only for the cost of repairing, but for your time too. You can get a report written from the new hair stylist and then send a copy to this salon, telling them that you will take legal action. I have heard about people being awarded sums of around 10,000 for damaged hair, through the courts. That sounds interesting, but to be honest, i'm more worried about it being un fixable at the moment that legal action and if they take care of a Tony&Guy bill and i manage to get it fixed i'll be more than happy. I can't for the life of me see how this hair will ever look like hair again in the near future though. Might end up with a super short crop! :)

I went down today, and the receptionist called her boss who said they'd pay for the fixing. They have no one who can do it there, obviously 'cause they only had one colorist. So, hopefully, IF, it can be fixed, they will foot the bill......... :) That's what she said, whether they will or not remains to be seen. Keep you posted.

Thanks guys, i have an appointment at Tony&Guys tomorrow, so i'll look into all the other suggestions next time round, i don't want to pay T&G prices forever! Speaking of prices, I am now about to be brave and go down to The salon in Internet City and ask that they at least pay for the fixing, long shot, but i feel it's the right thing to do. I'll update you all when i get back. :)

He is weird, he is one of the hierarchy in this ''religion'' which, as someone states is nothing less than a cult. He isn't an actor, he had a lucky break way back in Top Gun when he was mildly cute, and it gave him the power to call the shots, he controls everything he did since, produces most. He actually scares me. I have read the rumours of the arranged marriage of convenience, she being a C actress and needing the fame and he wanting to restore his followers into believing he was not a nutcase/homosexual/both, but i think he kinda blew that when he went overboard trying to prove his point on Oprah and became a world laughing stock. Now, i couldn't care less, so i'm on team Suri, hoping and praying she turns out ok, since so far, at age only 5 or 6, her parents have completely screwed her up!!!!

I don't suppose there is any chance of getting in touch with this user? This was written in 2010. :) Boy do I have the thing for you - and any other sufferers. DH is an extraordinary snorer - friends refuse adjacent hotel rooms, need I say more...... Short version of a long story is that he got a sleep apnea machine and ALL our problems have gone away. It's like a snorkle which fits to his nose and pumps oxygen slowly into his airways, keeping them open. When he got it, they stressed that it was for sleep apnea not snoring and may or may not help but it has 100% stopped him from snoring. The snoring used to cause us huge fights and I have tried to get him to consider surgery, but at the end of the day, this little machine has the goods. IT's not sexy, I've got to say, but after 20 years of listening to a chain saw next to me, it's the first thing I'd grab if the house was burning down! And DH actually takes it away with him when he goes away - even when I'm not going with him. He says he feels so much better rested when he uses it that he hates to be without it. It cost us a couple of thousand dollars for the top model, but honestly, if it cost me $10K to replace it, I'd do it in a heartbeat. His machine is a RESMED machine. I can't tell you much about any others, but I swear by this one.

What a carry on!!! How did you get on with your shipment in the end?. I have never experienced anything like it, and after 18 months here i thought i'd seen it all! :) I got a tracking number TODAY, i tracked it and it only went off today after over a week with them. I hope it was somewhere cool, although i very much doubt it. I had a million calls this week, strange calls, one even asked what time to pick up after i thought the goods were actually on their way to Europe!!! My husband called last week and kicked up a fuss, they wanted 1000 AED more, said the weight was wrong and i had it weighed at the airport so no way. No receipt nothing. Lets hope they don't end up in Canada! :) I had a call from a guy called Babu, he told me not to discuss anymore with Gladys as she didn't know anything, he knows what's happening, gave me his email and number.

Hey Di@DXB, i called them and arranged a pickup for today, weird company though :) Let me know how you get on, they kept changing their minds about price, told me i didn't need insurance and then came out without asking the address for me or the address for sending. Fingers and toes are crossed. :)
