we're with AXA (International) - company plan - and all DDs psych appointments have been covered. Hope you find someone - will check tomorrow when I'm there and find out who they're referring people to if you like. Could you please, that would be great, coming up with nothing today.

The initial consultation is more expensive than follow ups. It's usually that way with all of them. I didn't think any kind of psychiatry was covered by insurance here. edited by Chocs01 on 02/04/2012 Yes, I was covered with Dr.Amer previously for sure. Axa covers it. NOt now though as he's no longer covered at all, need to get him insurance ourselves.

Trouble is Dr Amer is the 'celebrity' psychiatrist so he's always away doing tv/radio shows and what not, hence the unreliability. I used to go to him, but gave up in the end. Can't recommend Dr Hany enough and he's registered with the Canadian board and a certified examiner also. Chocs01.........I just called Dr Hany's office, 1,000 AED for a consultation? Is that right? My DS has just turned 18 so is no longer allowed under our health insurance, i can't be paying that kind of money, do you get a friday brunch thrown in? :)

His mobile goes straight to voice mail, well in did a couple of weeks ago when i was using him. NO, I've given up on him, was never that happy to be honest anyway, he was a clock watcher, which isn't good either. This specialty requires a different temperament i feel, this man was too self absorbed.

We've been using Dr Amer actually, but it's becoming too unreliable, he cancels appointment's or you have to wait weeks to get seen. He changed my sons medication and we couldn't get hold of him to ask a serious question related to side effects and had to send an email which he didn't even bother to answer till our next appointment. Made me nervous to continue with him, what if something had happened? Surely he should be contactable by patients?

Can anyone recommend a [b'>psychiatrist[/b'> in Dubai?. [u'>Not[/u'> a psychologist or a psychotherapist, a doctor of psychiatry who can prescribe medication and diagnose rather than someone to have therapy or counselling with. Appreciated.

It was either last night or the night before I watched a programme that featured the monks tiger sanctuary in Thailand. it was a real eye opener!!! These are NOT rescued Tigers! They are bought, treated horrendously, Drugged, Beaten, Urine from another tiger is poured in there faces to subdue them and allow tourists to interact and take photos of them. Absolutely shocking and heartbreaking :( Do a lot of research so you are aware of exactly what your tourist dollars are doing to these poor animals. Will ask DH if he remembers the name of the programme tonight. Pretty sure when you see it you will change your mind on a "Tiger Experience" Thank you so much, please try and find the name of the programme for me and thankfully I didn't book it. I'm sure if people were aware they wouldn't go. It looks so lovely on the internet, selling the ''monks'' experience also makes you think they cannot be treated badly. shivers............

My 18 year old is at Uni here and gets 1,000 per month. He struggles on that with his hectic social life and finds he needs to stay home the last weekend of the month :) He has it deducted as appropriate as punishments. In order to receive it every month he needs to fulfill certain obligations around the house, otherwise, no wages. His friends get around the same although some get more and some a LOT more, but as I have answered to his pleas, you should have ordered rich parents and not us then! :)

I had that problem. Gone now. Buy a water filter and only use that to wash your hair and buy Nioxin products, the shampoo/conditioner and scalp treatments can be bought online. Good luck.

Awww.. Here you go thats the kind of response I was hoping for.. Thanks to all the Vain ladies out there... wheww.. I am glad they exisit in Dubai... I wrote asking about a tummy tuck before and someone replied that I should love the way I look.. WELL , with 3 little ones.. I DONT.. I want to go back to looking me... and I work out, so its not like I am a lazy bum.. b/c I am petite, but my stomach looks like I have been run over by a truck ONLY on the stomach area.. Plus I worked so hard in my life, time to look good.... So for the people who had fillers, which one did you use.. I am leaning towards Juverderm... You're glad there are vain ladies in Dubai? LOL :)

My husband and I often say, is it us or them??? We've been here almost a year and it's very difficult to bond with people. We are both very friendly and open and unreserved and we're thinking that perhaps it's that which puts people off? People seem to be more secretive here and there is always a hidden agenda to making friends. We came from Italy (DH is Italian) so finding it so difficult to not be able to pop round to friends or spontaneously organize something at the last minute as we used to. Looking forward to getting back home at this rate, it's gonna be a long next couple of years. :)

My 20 year old had bulimia when she was 16. I took her to see a psychologist and she no longer makes herself vomit but she still has a bad relationship with food, and counts every calorie that she eats. Going to the psychologist made no difference to the path she would have taken either way, she realized she was damaging her health and stopped by herself and told me seeing a psychologist was a waste of time. She seems to be getting naturally better day by day on her own and although she's still very slim, she is healthy and does eat enough nutrients in the day.

The ENT specialist at Jebal Ali Hospital is very good. I can't remember his name but there is only one. We visited John McEwan on a recommendation from here actually, at City Hospital, and I have to say I can't agree with the others. He was pre occupied and kept taking other calls on his mobile, then he quickly rushed a camera down my husbands nose into his throat which left my poor (normally pretty butch) husband almost in tears. We then didn't hear from him again even though he said he would be in touch and numerous calls and emails had no response. We ended up just going up to Jebel Ali and had the problem solved on the spot, and later an ear trouble of mine and then my son saw him also for hearing problems. He is a lovely, lovely man.

I kinda beat myself up a bit that I'm not "passionate" about anything in particular, and keep thinking that one day I will find my niche, something I am sooooooooo good at!!! :) Beginning to think that perhaps I'm just not brilliant at anything and be done with it, LOL. Problem is i never stick to anything, I get bored too blooming easily, and these days I feel I am constantly bored. I also feel that everyone around me id sooooo busy, and I wonder what they are busy doing? I'm not really doing anything different to them, but I'm bored, not busy. :)

I have read all this with such interest because it's almost April and we have just arrived. I was worried about our time of arrival and the heat of the summer but feel better now. I thought I would homeschool the kids (aged 9 and 5) until they started school in September but, having read this thread, I think maybe I should get them in a school for term 3 as it seems like it will be easier to get a place. My DH is very keen on living in the Marina but I am not driving yet so worried about the school run. If I have the pick of the school (haha!) which should I go for? I'm on the Marina, it's a lovely place to live, on the Walk though, not down at JBR.

I stayed home last last year in Rome were it reached the late 30's early 40's and i found it unbearable, so I was glad not to be here were it was worse, but then again I didn't have air conditioning everywhere, so i don't know which was the worst place to be.

I did the visa run to Oman with my teenage son every month since last September (he has his residency visa now). We spent lovely days lounging at the pool in Hata hotel and having lunch, it takes less then an hour to drive there, I would imagine taking a flight is far more stressful!

i'm doing an endocrinology search. My son has a rare and serious chromosome disorder and was seeing a very high up specialized consultant of endocrinology in the UK till we moved here. I am now searching to have him seen here and i'm very nervous about it as he needs highly monitored by someone who really knows their stuff and can prescribe high doses of testosterone. So far I have come up with Amel El Tayeb - Healthcare city M Belal Ashammaa - American Hospital Nagwa Khalil Akasha - Bekhoul Hospital Iyad Ksseiry - City Hospital These are all just recommendations i have found from here on old threads on expatwoman as I'm reluctant to go onto a google search for finding a list of self advertised doctors. Any advice would be greatly appreciated from anyone who knows of a highly qualified and a super intelligent doctor. Thank you

I've been to see them. It is a half built enormous complex, stratching what looks like for miles. There will be a lot of constuction for quite some time after you move in there I would imagine. I have to say, the houses were absolutley astounding, magnificent!!! For around 130 -140 you can get a 5 bedroom villa with a private pool and the villa is exceptional quality. It was actually quite unbelievable. THE CATCH! You are really in the middel of the desert! They really are in the middle of nowhere and far too far out for us to even consider living out there. That was the only downside. If you don't mind getting in the car for a long drive no matter where you are going, then these villas were beautiful.

As a mother with a daughter far away I would tell you not to only communication once or twice a week to your mother, then perhaps she won't have the million questions. As long as I have a daily fix I'm ok! It could be a text message or a few lines on facebook, it doesn't really matter, as long as i know what she's doing and she's happy and ok. We skype only once or twice a week but always in the evening when she's not otherwise occupied at University. By the time we get around to skyping there is lots to talk about as we've been exchanging news for a few days so it's never just about mundane things like what are you eating for dinner. Drop a few lines by email or text everyday and get a reply, it really helps to keep your mother happy and let her know you're ok. We send each other funnies and links sometimes 3 or 4 times a day as we're both at computers, I don't know how I would cope with only speaking once a week, i'd probably be like your mum and have it all bottled up! :)

LMAO here!!!! As a nurse I wet my pants when I read the labia folds comment. I really thought it was going to go into vaginal rejuvination surgery and I thought I really have started something here. :) For the record, I have had botox for around 4 years now. I'm pretty wrinkle free (great skin genes from my mother) but what I had a problem with is that I lift my eye brows when I'm talking, in fact pretty much all day no matter what I'm doing! :) I have had deep frown lines here since my early 20's. I get botox to freeze the area. I actually stop raising my eye brows for about 4-6 months. I love it, the results are fantastic. I get a smooth looking forhead and feel great and hate it when it starts to wear off. I've been very lucky in that my friend, who runs a practice for botox back home, has been doing mine for years so, since I have been home for almost a year, I feel terrible. When I see myself in the mirror it's the first thing I see and it looks awful. I am very reluctnat to go to another practitioner but feel I need bite the bullet and go, as not only does it look bad, I know I'm just making the deep lines worse by not giving my forehead a rest once a year.

I found a little kitten about 2 weeks ago in the Marina. He had no collar and was very thin, tired and hungry. He had diorrheoa and ear mites. I took him home and the vet has now given him a clean bill of health. I doubt he has been lost and think he was a stray, but if he was someone's pet he has been missing for quite some time. He is the most affectionate and loving cat I have ever known and is also clever and playful apart from being as cute as possible with fur like velvet. He would make a wonderful pet. I am fostering him till he is adopted. There are photo's in the Lost&Found Classified section. Thanks

I'm of the general consensus that kids are mollycoddled now days and forms of punishments we received as children are now conceived to be child abuse. The fact that there were women crying in the audience upset me more than seeing the kid have a cold shower! Political correctness in the 21st century has gotten out of hand in every aspect of life. Just sayin! :)
