Hi, Does anyone know which places are going to be open during Ramadan this year? Thank you :-) There is a gourmet bakeshop in Barsha near Emirates Mall that will open for pick up and delivery. Food is very nice... they also have sandwiches, salads and baked cakes. I believe they will also have Ramadan foods as well. Worth looking into..... for those who need to eat during day... ;-) My favorite is the smoked salmon quiche. their number is ... 043850011 or look them up in FB OusheGourmetBakeshop

PPM, that is exactly my conflict. I do know where he works... The question is, what if he did pick it up from the street? Unfortunately I have not installed that App you are talking about... Pikachu, PPM: Please please do tell me the name of such awesome piece of cleverness... I sure could have used it today!!

It has been that kind of day literally! So we are in the middle of moving houses and have the bug people over at the new place (still empty) doing their job. I am sitting in my car waiting just playing on my iphone which is about to run out of battery, so I have it connected, charging. The bug people are done and the whole time my phone stays in the car. I then swing over to the nearest Spinneys in Barsha for a quick shop, park the car, in I go and am back in my car within 10 minutes. As I walk back to the car I realize I had left the car unlocked but don’t think anything of it since I have done so before and no issues. As I am driving back to our current house, I notice, shoot, my phone! And think and hope I just forgot it in Spinneys and that is still there wherever I left it. When I get to Spinneys the girl at the counter tells me she has not seen any phones and I tell her that is not only my phone, but my ID, DL and credit cards are in it! She lets me use the store phone and when I call my number it rings back as if it is turned off. At this point I know I know I am in big doodoo… I call my hubby… I remember we had installed the Find iPhone App a few months ago. So I tell him to ‘locate my phone’. And he does! He tells me ‘it is moving’ and gives me the exact street location, 8th St and 22nd… I ask the girl at the counter if I can borrow her phone (in exchange I can leave my wallet and passport) but her cell has no minutes left. So I thank her, hop in my car and drive to where DH had said it was. A small Barsha park is nearby, so I drive there and ask the security guard to call the police. OMgoodness! True to stereotypical ineptitude of security people he slowly moves and asks “so what is the problem? Who do you want to call?” I realize quickly this is going nowhere, so I turn to this young guy sitting with him and without finishing my request he has his cell ready and starts dialing the number I give him. I call DH and he goes on to tell me that my phone is moving and gives me the new location. What happens next is out of this world and the most action I have had in years! I turn to the guy and ask ‘can you come with me?’, I guess the tone of my question had a no choice answer… that he turned to his ‘boss’ to which the guard just said ‘go!’. We then jump in the car and hubby on the phone the whole time tells me ‘go to 18th and 22nd, go straight, go right, turn left, go through the alley, go back, you need to turn around’… and then he says ‘it stopped! It is not moving anymore! And your battery only has 4% left!’. The whole time I am driving through these paved and unpaved streets, the poor guy sitting next to me buckles up after we rush over those funny speed bumpy thingies… and people, people all over the place, where did all these people come from? Who do I stop, who is the funny man who took my phone? At one point, there are these 2 men on bicycles and my DH is telling me that my phone is where these 2 people are and heading in the same direction! I get out and follow, more like run after them yelling at them to stop, to where one just takes off! At that point DH tells me the new location of my phone which leads me to know these men are not it…oooops! Then following directions of my dearest, he tells me ‘it is at the end of the street, to the left of me should be 2 houses and it is the house to the right’. What to do? I get out of the car, the young guy follows and we open the gate to the house. The gardener who I had just seen walk in is at the end of the garden. I call him over. My hubby on the phone tells me ‘it is moving now!’ So I wave at the man to go back… but he just looks at me all puzzled. Then the young guy with me speaks in Urdu with him and makes a gesture to walk away… at the same time my hubby is telling me that he is sending a ring to make my phone ring sounds…. And I HEAR MY PHONE!! The gardener looks at me smiling… and I fight the urge to just reach into his pocket, he knows it but the only thing he can do is just to hand it over… he has been CAUGHT! He looks puzzled and looks at the young guy and starts explaining to which it gets translated to ‘I found it on the road next to an accident’ (there had been an accident in Barsha earlier, but I had not been anywhere near it since I had used my phone in the car!) This is where I am a bit confused. The end is simple. I took the phone, ‘thanked him!’ and drove the young man back to the park. I thank him countless, many many times and gave him some cash to cover the cost of the call (had to insist as he did not want to take it). (Note to self: need to get something special for this young, brave nice man) The confusing part is that, while my rational brain tells me that it must have been taken from the car, since my memory places it last there and I had left the car unlocked. But my emotional side tells me that there is the possibility that he could have indeed taken it from the street, perhaps after someone else had ‘taken’ it. I just don’t know. In any case, a good story, lessons learned and a bit to think about technology: security or big brother? One thing is for sure, had I waited for the security guard to do anything or for the police to arrive, my phone would not be with me and all those pics of my little ones that I have procrastinated to transfer to my pc… Thank you, Thank you!

Splinters, thank you for your reply. I just saw the post... It does seem though that salaries depend much on location and I am not sure if Jumeira small plot would be the same as Al Barsha slightly bigger. It is a 'tough' job, specially in the summer months and yes it does merit a reasonable salary... I just don't want to be taken for a ride and pay more than what I should...

we paid ours 200 a month for 6 days a week watering, mowing the lawn, cutting the trees back etc - anything major we paid extra for and he'd turn up with half a dozen men to help..and yes he was working for a company.. Picachu, apologies, but please can you tell me where is it that you live? Salary differences seem to depend on location, whereas 300 is paid for a medium size garden in Umm Suqeim, 200 is paid in Arabian Ranches for a larger plot. I have just posted a similar question in a different thread... I need to know how much to pay in Al Barsha....

I'm a bit confused as to how much to pay for 5 days/wk gardening in Al Barsha. I have heard anything from 300 to ridiculous amounts... Size is roughly 2 plots: one is a 4 by 8 meters, second roughly the same, slightly smaller.

Yes I would. She is a mother of 4 children back home. She is helping them in college and highschool now by working here.
